Beautiful! I have to say, this has been the worst year ever. I was told last month that I have a grade IV glioblastoma, and a year to live. Then the world shuts down less than a month later. Now I'm sitting here, listening to you sing a new song, tears in my eyes, and the biggest smile on my face! I've been a huge fan since I first heard It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine), at the age of 14, and my admiration and appreciation for you, Mike Mills, Peter Buck, and Bill Berry has never wavered. Your music has gotten me through some bad times, and now here you are again, helping me to get through my worst time for the final time. I would never be so bold as to say, "Please release a solo album!" or "Please make one more album with R.E.M.!" Not because I most likely wouldn't be here to hear it, but I believe that albums should be made from the passion of the artists, not the demand of the fans. I am so grateful for THIS song, more than you'll ever know. And it couldn't have come at a better time. You and your music are loved by millions. I speak for so many, when I say we can't thank you enough for the 32 years of life-changing music you gave to me, and the 37 years you gave to those who were lucky enough to have discovered you, when you released Murmur. Time to listen for the fourth time, and feel a bliss I can only feel through beautiful music. Stay safe, Michael. The world is a better place with you still in it.

My cell was next to my pillow, in case. One night I had the energy to click on google, and I saw this was a new song. I always loved Michael's voice. I played this song day and night. It made me cry to let out my misery, and it gave me hope that I could make it to another day, to hear that beautiful voice one more time. You've got it sir, yes you do! I remember working in Atlanta for REM, and admired your artistry in the mid-1980s. A sweet treat one night, was my escorting by my elbow, your Mom! I see *her in *your gentle, heavenly smile at the close of this exceptional video song. Very, very sweet. I can't wait to read your lyrics in a contemplative space. I don't want to compare you to Peter Gabriel, though there are similarities, such as the staged version of his Digging In The Dirt. Like you and he "yeah there's dirt here, and we're gonna dig in & toss it around!". But Peter was always about bigger. Whereas you don't mind the shadows at all, where we all are just in. As Carl Jung's "The Land of the Shadows" speaks of exploring this land. I welcome you to every possibility @ this time of your unique expression. Pleased that your expression this year includes Kamala & Tim. I grinningly see you performing soon at ... *The White House

On my 13th birthday I picked out two brand new release cassettes w my bday money. They were The Waterboys' 'This Is The Sea' and 'Fables Of The Reconstruction' from R.E.M. it was 1985. Height of the cheesy 80s.. That was the day my life changed forever....Gone was the KISS and Def Leppard of my early childhood. I picked up a guitar and have never looked back. I found my home. Michael, you are the closest thing to Ghandi that rock music will ever know. The enlightenment in your every turn of phrase, the passion in in your voice, spoke to me: "Follow me to this beautiful, bittersweet place where sound and poetry collide.." Through you Michael, I found the incomparable Patti Smith. And I found my heart and mind. When I was about 16, MTV finally embraced R.E.M. I was both proud and aggravated. Here was this music that was mine, my secret place, suddenly adored by a pop audience that could never really get it. Or could they? Unlike U2 and so many others, the honesty and authenticity just never faltered with R.E.M.. Despite the masses with their presence and eventual vanishing. The evolution was grand, majestic, beautiful, masterful. I remember driving from S. Florida to Athens, camping out on Stone Mountain, in 91- just to get in touch with the actual geography of the Stipe soul. Indeed if ever I felt I had a musical soul mate it would be you. Now for another listen to an unexpected jewel, this diamond hidden in the coal of COVID-19. Tears of joy and sadness in my morning coffee. Light up a smoke and just listen to this unexpected message from a dear, old friend. You have given the world more meaning. Time. Memory. How these themes resonate now, as we grow older..and face this terror. Thank you Michael, for this most precious gift. For your beauty and truth. For every smile, for every tear..

Grew up listening to these guys in Athens, and it's been great growing older with them. There's something immensely humanizing about the door behind Stipe not quite being square or closed; so many recent celebrities videos show marble, polished oak, and crystal, this feels so much more human. I doubt he'll read this, but thank you all the same for sharing something beautiful. It's exactly what my wife and I (and probably countless others) needed right now.

I'm crying, apparently no need to do that but I'crying. I'm lucky because I'm in lockdown with my family even if every day I wake up and go to work in the hospital here in my town, I'm a doctor and I confess, I'm scared to death, every day, but I know that I'm lucky here compared to the rest of the word, but now, listening to this song, I'm crying. Love you Michael, love you all ❤

You are not alone. I'm and MD as well, resigned to the high likelihood I will get CV-19, but I'd rather it be at work than at the Supermarket. Soldier on.

Happy 1st Anniversary to this beautiful, healing song. It helped me through pneumonia/covid. I was so sick, in a delirium. all I could do was hit the repeat button to hear this and it gave me comfort. I just had my 2nd vaccine shot yesterday, I don't feel well today, but it's nothing like the devastation of covid, and once again I am comforted. Thank you, @Michael Stipe, for helping me. ✌🎤💙

I remember being a mixed up kid in a really small town. I could not find an acceptable identity. Michael Stipe reminded me I didn’t need one. ❤️

The sweetness of your final smile... these are dire times and we all need sweet smiles to calm our fears down. Thank you for that!
