Thanks for this. My late father, Clete Hilliker, loved this show from the 1958 film. But, while he was serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, my father told me how he loved reading the original novel by Mac Hyman. I believe the book came out and in 1954, my dad's last year in the Army. Rest in peace, dad. I love you.

One of the many great aspects of The Ed Sullivan Show (aka Toast of the Town) was the continual salute to the best of Broadway, with many, many excerpts of popular Broadway shows. Often, these are the only records of the shows, right from the late 1940's to the early 1970"s. Ed Sullivan's almost 25 years of TV is a priceless, irreplaceable treasure house of American culture. Even the minor bits are important, and Sullivan captured the entire history of popular song on his show.
