There is equal incentive for everyone to go first. Also 97% of the hands aren't shown here. Robin made some really powerful plays that didn't make the cut (or were rushed through the edit). I think people are missing that the team's objective is to maximize its chance of winning the match, not to maximize the game EV. In other words, it doesn't really matter from the team perspective whether the result is 3-0 or 3-2, a win is a win. From that perspective, team order isn't really important. For example, imagine one teammate is amazing and will win every time they play. It should be clear that it doesn't matter where that player is placed in the lineup, because the team will win the match no matter what. Similarly, if one player is awful and never wins, it also doesn't matter their order in the lineup. Their two teammates will have to defeat the entire other team no matter what. Of course, those are extreme examples. In reality, a player will have some chance to win each game. For now, let's only worry about the player ordering on one team (we'll just assume the other team's players are all equally skilled, so their order doesn't matter). If this team has one weak player and two strong players, where should the weak player be in the lineup? Well, by a similar argument as above, if the two strong players are able to defeat the entire opposing team, it doesn't matter where the weak player is placed. The team will win the match. But, there's also the case where the strong players are only able to defeat 2 opponents. In this case, the team wins if (and only if) the weak player is able to defeat an opponent. All opponents are equally skilled in this example, so it really doesn't matter to the team whether the weak player goes first or last. If they can win at least one game, the team will win. Otherwise, the team will lose. And similar is true if it is an unlucky day for the strong players and they'll only be able to defeat 0 or 1 players. If the weak player is able to beat enough players to make up for it, the team will win and this is true regardless of where in the order they play. If the other team is not equally skilled, it's not clear who you'd want the weaker player to play. Do you want them to try to take the longshot to take out the opposing team's strongest player? That's unlikely to work, but it would greatly help the team's chances if it does. Or do you want them to face the other's team's weakest player? They'd be more likely to win, but that's less likely to matter because the stronger players on the team would likely beat that player anyways. It's unclear which direction the effect cuts. But if there is an effect, the opposition would also want to take advantage of it, so playing in a predictable order would likely be a bad idea. In any case, it's certainly not as simple as, "good player first -> more likely to win the match". In the earlier examples though, the order of the players doesn't affect how likely each team will win the match, but it does affect how many games each person is likely to win (and how many gold coins they will receive). Frankly, I think everyone on the team was making flawed, self-serving arguments. Which makes sense, they want to win the money. Edit: Just went back and re-watched. Johan's argument about more hands = more EV would make sense in a cash game, but definitely doesn't work here. Kyna even says, "It's not even about how many hands you play, it's about winning. It's about beating 3 people", which is the correct way to think about it.

I think part of its the "structure" of this part of the tournament: nobody wants to go last because it means you are less likely to win and thus not able to accumulate the coins for winning matches. We can see that here with Yoh Viral: if he ends up sweeping the other team then Kyna and Jungleman will get coins for being on the winning team, but Yoh will get those as well, plus pocket all the coins for heads up wins.

@@quintenfranks8024 You mean the K4o? In heads-up I'm pretty sure you have to call that according to GTO, but I haven't done solving on heads-up in a while. My reasoning is that a lot of jacks will try to bluff u off a king. Failed backdoor flush draws will barrel on the river. Of course, you gotta be scared of 2 pair, but in heads-up basically all good players will play aggressively on disconnected boards like this, especially with top pair because of blockers. What's your thoughts?
@quintenfranks8024
@quintenfranks8024 10 ай бұрын
@@VaoDxArchAngel I also haven’t solved here, but I believe that if Yoh was attempting to bluff off a King with Jacks, his line of just calling the flop and then leading strongly on the turn which should be a blank is very strong. I would have called the turn and folded the river knowing that there is only one King I beat there, but perhaps that’s too tight
@jonathanhenderson9422
@jonathanhenderson9422 10 ай бұрын
@@VaoDxArchAngel No competent player plays a Jack that way. Having a J makes it less likely your opponent has one, which increases their chances of having either a K or air (making them polarized). Nikita also raised pre, making her even more polarized. Busted flush draws usually don't barrel the river because you block your opponent's folding range; you want THEM to have the busted flush draw. River is easy call for Nikita unless you think your opponent is way under-bluffing. Having a 4 kicker is great because it unblocks most of Yoh's actual bluffs like QT and T9 (It does block A4, but that's minor). The real oddity of the hand is why Yoh leads turn. I'd be shocked if that's a lead spot in GTO. That board's about as good as it gets for a pre-flop raiser heads up. I doubt seriously if Yoh is supposed to have a range advantage there and he certainly doesn't have the nut advantage. My only guess is that he thinks Nikita will underbluff her air on the turn (she should be betting aggressively with the range/nut advantage on that blank turn) so his best chance of getting paid is betting into a J.

Kyna seems nice but she’s clueless. Getting wrapped up in narratives instead of facts. Need to win the most chips as a team, best way to do that is to have your best players play the most.

Exactly, for her to even speak on the topic gives off Helmuthian type self delusions. Jungle is one of if not the best HU holdem player in history, know your role.

Nonsense..... He knows that if he goes first and can eliminate 3 players he gets the gold for each knockout and not his "teammates". You got to remember that there's only one winner in the end. He realizes that.... He's trying to win the war not just the match/round.
@BRAYDENENGEL
@BRAYDENENGEL 10 ай бұрын
Okay..? That’s not her argument though. She’s upset she may have to play when their backs are against the wall and wants 2nd because she perceives it as the least stressful. If she was concerned about that she’d be advocating for an opportunity to go first and knock everyone out. When she’s in the room with Jungle and he says “I guess it’s okay if he wins” she gives him the death stare and says “of course it’s good”. She’s trying to ladder in a winner take all format and proving my point she has a long way to go towards understanding poker.
@dawnkeener9836
@dawnkeener9836 10 ай бұрын
@@BRAYDENENGEL yeah I agree with you... I was just stating why he wanted to go first... Never said she wanted to go first. I understand why she wants to go second.... However if I was the captain I probably would have done the same as him and put her last. Just saying. This is a war to win not just a round.

I think something they haven’t considered is how much more information the 3rd player will have on the opponent who has won the previous match. That’s why Koon wanted to be the anchor. (Having seen the most hands played by his opponents). I personally think the order (as a team) would be for the weakest player go 2nd and the top 2 players go 1st and 3rd to increase their chances to move to the next stage as a team. It’s too early for individual tactics to play a prioritized role just yet. I’d say, the player with the most coins should choose wether he goes 1st or last if the top 2 can’t agree though
