"Pneuma" is a Greek word meaning "Breath" or "Spirit". In modern language, it is the root word for "pneumatic" (air powered drills) and "pneumonia" (infection of the lungs - which breath air). In a spiritual sense, it is a recognition that one divine breath upholds all of us - that even our breath is a gift of the Divine.

I was fortunate enough to see Tool live again in November from fourth row, and I can tell you that they all still have the energy and stamina that they did when I saw their first tour all those years ago. I also met Adam Jones backstage who was playing a guitar given to him by lead guitarist of Rush Alex Lifeson. Lifeson joined him on stage for one song which was a surprise to the audience. If at any point you're able to catch Tool live I highly recommend it. It's not just a concert. It's a completely submerse experience.

Danny's polyrhythms are out of this world. He's a beast and now I believe he's 63 or 64. Great reaction. I know this song inside and out and couldn't wait for the polyrhythm section waiting to watch your mind get blown.

Tool is real simple - any instrument, including the vocalist, can take any role - melody, harmony, rhythm, etc., and they happily hand off those roles from instrument to instrument.

Tool is its own genre lol. Im glad you watched this video because from now on when you listen to Tool you'll know they're actually phenomenal musicians and not just relying on studio tricks or post production layering. There are so many great Tool songs to check out from here - dont miss 46 and 2, Right in Two, H, the Grudge, Descending, Lateralus, Aenima. Oh and 7empest seeing as you're a big guitar fan. The studio version of Pneuma is great as well, and the live version of Sober from 93 (when they were all just babies 😂) P.S. I think that red thing you said looked like a gas can is a little crate of gatorades.

This was recorded in late 2019 or early 2020, if I remember correctly. Danny was 58 when this was recorded. An octopus has 9 brains, one big brain and each limb has it's own small brain that lets it move independently. It's the only explanation, dude is an octopus.

Shot November 14 2019. Only reason I know the exact date is because I am the guy who set up the forward cam. I work for Vic Firth, which is in Boston. We had our own suite at the show as well. Danny was very gracious and down to earth. We have more footage of the show (from the back) ,but the cameras stabilizer wasn't engaged properly which caused it to be bouncy and unusable.

Love how you take in all the instruments, it's a Danny-cam, but for example in the famous "hypnotic" part towards the end, the bass+guitar+synth (the dzwoooiii-sounds) all come together - it wouldn't be the same with either part missing!

A+++ for timing on the video Last video you said you liked the drummer… Danny on point w double bass drum kick on the tasteful crescendos. I’d follow this ride regardless, but if you start from Undertow, it would be the same way the audience received it at the time. We didn’t have much explanation. We took it in at face value. Tool creates “theatre of the mind”

I'm going to second (third? fourth?) the nomination for The Grudge next. From there you can either continue down some of their more 'conventionally rock' type songs like Aenima, Sober, Eulogy, Stinkfist, or 46 and 2, or go into their more 'experimental' type stuff (more along the lines of Pneuma) with Lateralus, Schism, Descending, or Parabol/Parabola (2 songs that go together, make sure you do both at the same time). If you're up for a little bit of a marathon, check out what's known as the Holy Trinity, which is Disposition, Reflection, and Triad off of their Lateralus album.

As amazing as Danny's drumming is, not enough people fully appreciate that they're listening to a professionally mixed live performance of this song, with the audio taken from the soundboard. It's extremely rare for this band to release any pro-mix live music. The last time they released anything officially live was the box set "Salival" in 2000. There's bootlegs and audience tapes, but this is direct from the soundboard pro mixed and engineered audio AND video of this amazing song. Honestly I don't even watch the video anymore, I just listen to the music. When you focus on just Danny the drummer, you don't fully hear the guitar, bass, or vocals. It's like you're missing out on 75% of the music and arrangement.

I believe this video was released by Vic Firth, not Tool.
@medhead9648 ай бұрын
@@dianajemison105 I agree. You are absolutely right, It was Vic Firth's video. It was still pro-mixed and engineered and I'm sure the band had final say as to it's quality and whether or not it was good enough before it was released. It's their licensed work.
