Two things: 1. Neuronist is the torturer 2. I think one of the most interesting thing about Zanac is that he actually changed very little from our initial impression of him and the one at the end. Yeah he had a smug way of talking and he's got the stereotypical "fat arrogant noble" look, but he was secretly working with the guy trying to keep the kingdom from collapsing, he was trying to take the throne from a guy he knew was not only an entitled musclehead but actively being bribed by the Eight Fingers, he called the princess a monster (which initially seemed wrong, but considering who she was revealed to be, is it not, perhaps, even putting it lightly?), and any time he had any bit of influence he tried to make sensible decisions within his circumstances. Now at the end we get to his brave and committed side as well, plus his inner thoughts and motivations. I think one of the most interesting aspects of this character is the power that framing can have on a character's perception.

"He was not fit to rule after all. He did not have his father’s virtue, his brother’s charisma, or his sister’s intellect. He had nothing at all, but that was fine. He did not want to be king anyways, he merely wanted this Kingdom to be functional. That was right. To give unto this country, its people, and his family: Happiness. That was all." That was the exact quote from the novel. Honestly, it breaks my heart seeing that all along Zanac never actually wanted to become king in the first place. He only ever wanted to do what was right and to make his country a better place and that Ainz saying "Happiness" was the last thought he ever had. Just like how Zanac left a strong impression on Ainz for being the embolden of what royaly looks like, Ainz left just as strong of an impression on Zanac for how shockingly human this undead king turned out to be. Dude truly was the king they needed but did not deserve.

I will forever wonder what would have happened if Ainz had met with Zanac first instead of Jircniv. There would probably be some disconnect since he has siblings Ainz would be paying attention to but if they became his vassal state instead I would have loved to see the two of them have more heart to hearts.

Honestly one of my favorite episodes due to the ending alone. Loved how much respect Ainz had for Zanac after their short talk ontop of giving the nobles a just "reward" for thier actions. Keep up the good reactions!

I see you missed a nice detail, the blonde guy from the black scripture looks like Clementine, in the novel they tell us they're cousins or siblings i can't remember exactly. And the drop of red guy mentioned how one of them got corrupted, which again it's referring to Clementine. Oh yeah, Neuronist is the thicc torturer, the one that wants Ainz bone.

The novel never says it, there are just clues dropped occasionally about her past. Clues like when she said she was lying after saying that she was always compared to her amazing older brother or Khajiit calling her fragment of Quinta, which is his Quaiesse’s baptismal name

Ainz's response of "Happiness" to Zanac was so significant and meant so much more than the anime had presented it and it added to why Ainz was so irritated when Zanac was betrayed. See when he said happiness it was accompanied with Ainz's thoughts that the longer he stays in this world the more he's realizing his friends are gone and that he'll never see them again which is very lonely for him and now his only goal is to create happiness with the NPC's who he sees as the children of his dear friends and the last thing they left behind. To Ainz, Nazarick is everything and to sacrifice everyone and everything to make them happy is how he's trying to create some semblance of happiness that he hasn't been able to grasp. So "Happiness" was such a meaningful response more than the anime could've expressed. That was the first time since Overlord started that he openly dropped his act of being the Sorcerer King Ainz Ooal Gown but instead spoke to him as a normal person being truthful to his feelings as it's stated that he dropped his guard and spoke to him as he would speak to one of his friends. This was so important because this is the most truthful he's ever been since Overlord started because this is not an answer he could give any of the NPC's who he treasures so dearly because it doesn't add up to that 1000 year plan they think he has. So his reply of "Happiness" is possibly the most impact full thing Ainz has ever told anyone in Overlord which only added to why Ainz was so mad when Zanac was betrayed.

I call him “Prince Xanax” but he really was great at the end. The fact he seemed like a scheming brat of a prince at the start of the season, to develop him into a great character…then have him ended like this 😩 It’s very “Overlord” as in nobody is safe! We are most definitely the “bad guys” but there are also other horrible people out there; it’s really satisfying when these horrible people get punished in the worst way possible 😈

Zanac's death, his final thoughts and Ainz's anger at the end were more prominent in the novel and here's how it actually happened. Throughout Ainz's conversation with Zanac he continued to be impressed with how Zanac is able to carry himself given the circumstances. He doesn't think that if he was in the same position he'd be able to handle it as well as he was. By the end of their talk he stated that Zanac reminded him of how there's so much more Ainz has yet to to learn about conducting himself as a king or even royalty in general, and that Zanac was very "educational" so Ainz saying Zanac was true royalty is a short way of summing that up. When Zanac was betrayed by those nobles he told them that he even submitted the kingdom as a vassal state to Ainz but Ainz rejected the offer, and the words about how he thinks he wasn't meant to be king actually happened not on horseback but when he drew his sword against the nobles. That made it more heartbreaking that those were his final thoughts before he died and in his last moment in the novel before he perished the words "Happiness" Ainz told to him was the last thing he ever thought. Knowing that made things even more heartbreaking knowing Ainz's words to him was the last thing Zanac ever thought about. As for Ainz's reaction to this whole thing, Ainz actually knew what they did to Zanac before even seeing his head, he only called the nobles over so that he could confirm that Zanac had died and to punish them accordingly. Ainz also sentenced their families to be tortured and killed as well, and it was said Ainz was smiling behind that skull as a sick feeling of pleasure came when he ordered the suffering of their families. In the anime it sounded like Ainz had ordered Cocytus and Mare to kill the army however they wanted but in the novel it was a step further as Ainz ordered them to murder every last innocent citizen within the kingdom, it wasn't just an order to slaughter the army but an order to kill every last trace of life in the kingdom. Throughout this war Ainz was never actually mad at the kingdom, but in this moment he was genuinely upset and the kingdom is about to feel his wrath.

Ainz is a man of his word and he promised to kill him without any pain, but they cut his head and made him unable to fulfill his promise, so that also adds to his anger. Glad you guys also liked Zanac at the end, sad thing is that if you rewatch the series you will notice Zanac was never a bad guy, everything he said wass actually true but unfortunately because of his appearance we never trusted him.(he just liked to eat delicious food and have fun)

the fire horse is called a soul eather they were used as bombs dropped by shaltear during the war since in this world there is no air drag they hit like bombs and since they dont die from fall damage if they absorb a soul they kill this was a great way to bombard the kingdom from the sky

funny thing about prince zanac is that ains was so moved by his plea that he was actually going to stop the war and let the kingdom go but the nobles cowardly move made ains angry and just give up and decided to move forward

I disagree with other commentators, I think Ainz wasn't angry. I'm sure the author wanted to convey how much Ainz synchronized with the lich's body. He just got bored. He wanted to have a decent fight, and these nobels ruined it.

The anime did Ainz a bit dirty .. he was actualy expecting some sort of player related stuff to show up if not a player .. because if you destroy a whole kingdom and there were players around they would show up .. the armour is an equipment for new players 1.to powerlevel and 2. because there was a mech-fighting game gaining popularity and they wanted to ride on that popularity .. it doesnt boost hp or mp and takes up most equipment slots Ainz has a couple of them but they're not very good .. the crafter of the guild who wanted to become a damage dealer with it was very disapointed...

The "horse" Ains is riding is a Soul Eater and is stronger than a Death Knight they eat the soul of any they kill and get stronger with every soul they eat. Dante in his books condemned those that betray to the lowest level of Hell, he would have approved with Ains treatment of those nobles.

Soul Eaters aren't that much stronger than Death Knights, actually, but they are indeed far more of a threat in the new world. That's because Soul Eaters have an aura that deals damage and they heal for every person they kill. So, in a city, their aura would slaughter the civilians and the Soul Eater would remain full life. Comparably, a Death Knight is easier to deal with, because at least they don't heal themselves constantly during combat.

Azuth Aindra is the uncle of Lakyus Aindra.... Black Scripture... the group that has the dude who looks exactly like Clementine, is the group that Clementine used to be in.... That was stated in season one during her mini-arc... That's why they said one of them has strayed from the heroic path....
