When things like this happen the cops are told to ignore the evidence, the word comes down from up high "don't look into this too deeply" so they don't.

Assuming they had his fingerprints in some database. Since we're assuming the secretary of defence doesn't have a criminal record and there's no reason to suspect him all they'd have are some unknown prints.

@@SeansModelBuilds The cops would find a dead body and some prints. They wouldn't immediately assume 'hey do you suppose the secretary of defence killed her?'. Their immediate assumption botched robbery. The crook found her pushed over the edge panicked when he realised that she's dead and fled. It takes a pretty big leap to go from 'dead body in a house' to 'lets see if she was killed by a cabinet member'. Now to be fair they might find out she was seeing high level government officials assuming they actually research the case properly. But there's no guarantee. Its not like 'mistress of the secdef' is an official job title.

One of my four or five favorite portrayals in movies is Mr. Patton in this movie. The others are O'Toole and Burton in various films by Lean and Houston. Not sure what to say. I have known people like Mr. Patton - rough types. Easy on the surface but underneath really, really ruthless. As long as they are in favor of America I'm with them otherwise I'll destroy them one-by-one.
