The billing of the 100m has predominantly be the driving force of the face of the track and field sport. Meaning more money, more attention, more recognition, more catering for the 100m best aka the World's fastest woman/man. So Noah isn't wrong, at one point, the Diamond League considered removing the 200m from their timetable in 2019. Plus the Olympics has been one of few occasions where the 100m is one of the most anticipated events across all the Olympic sports which why Usain Bolt, Carl Lewis, Linford Christie, Jesse Owens and many others have had a certain reputation following their Olympic Gold victory in the 100m. Noah clearly still cares about the 200m but he knows that he has done everything medal-wise but win the 200m Olympic Gold medal. What he said in the interview isn't wrong and I don't think he's been disrespectful but being honest of the reality of success & recognition you get as a 100m sprinter vs a 200m sprinter when it's all set and done.

I really liked this interview ❤❤ people on twitter are already clipping the part where Noah says nobody cares about the 200m without even listening to the context. He was asked whether he would choose the 100m world champion or 200 m world champion and he said that he would pick 100m any day, mainly because of the notoriety that comes with being the fastest man in the world. He’s not saying that he’s not running or trying to double at Worlds he’s just saying which title means more and has more power. He says there’s unfinished business but, he won’t gain it through only running the worlds and winning. He’s has to get the title at 200m Olympic champion to be able to hold a candle next to Bolt.

@@shayburton4104 I love King Noah Lyles, But King Noah Lyles Literally said in his interview with *Jimmy Fallon* (back in June in the Jimmy Fallon Show) that he Wants to surpass Usain Bolt’s Level/Legacy. That’s pretty much one of his *Goals.* But imo, if King Noah Lyles wants to surpass Usain Bolt’s Level/Legacy, *He needs to keep on doubling (100m/200m) and keep on winning Olympic Gold Medals and World Championships Gold Medals until he retires* All that’s left for King Noah Lyles to do now is that he NEEDS to: •Win 3 100m Olympic Gold Medals •Win 3 200m Olympic Gold Medals •Win 2 or 3 4x100m Relay Olympic Gold Medals •Win 3 more 100m World Championships Gold Medals AND •Break the 100m WR •Break the 200m WR •Break the 4x100m Relay WR (He already has 3 200m World Championships Gold Medals. So that already cleared. He just needs 1 more 200m WC Gold Medal left to tied with Bolt’s 4 200m WC Gold Medals). That’s the only way for King Noah Lyles to *be on/surpass* Usain Bolt’s Level/Legacy. And I will support him and his journey👍

But he won the 100m this year and wasn't a finalists the 200m companion is a finalists though. In 2022 breaking that American record didn't equate you winning either because someone else out shine you. Noah is something else cause all of a sudden nobody cares about the 200m just because he didn't win.
@samuelzobo4961Ай бұрын
Everyone doesn’t care about the 200m, and everyone knows it. Bolt ran both the 100m and 200m, which is why it was interesting. But if you only win the 200m, nobody cares. What’s truly interesting is doing the double. That’s why Bolt’s achievements were legendary. Otherwise, the 200m, in general, nobody cares about, and that’s the reality. In fact, it was Noah who really brought attention to the 200m by winning it three times. If you win the 200m just once in your career, it’s meaningless. We enjoy and watch the 200m because of the times that have been set, and that’s the reason. Since there are incredible sprinters on the 200m today, it has gained interest. Otherwise, as you know very well, nobody cares about the 200m. And everyone knows it, especially people who aren’t die-hard athletics fans-they’re only interested in the 100m. The 200m becomes interesting when, as I said before, you achieve the double. Otherwise, nobody cares about the 200m, generally speaking.
@GraceandFavour2024Ай бұрын
@samuelzobo4961 I get that the 100m is the main event I just think that Noah would have never admitted to that if he did win and especially if he did break that record. My point is highlighting that he is not a even a finalists for the world athlete of the year but he won the 100m but the 200m champion is a finalists so his statement contradicted itself cause he thought he should have won in 2022 because he broke the American record. What is so special about breaking an American record when it had people breaking actual world records.
@Astro2024Ай бұрын

@GraceandFavour2024Ай бұрын
@Astro2024 Noah cares, last year he was pissed they split the awards and he was the one who alluded to it in the interview. Trust me he wants to be recognized as being dominant in the sport but it has too many talents. Remember he trying to be remembered as Greatest and in order for him to be that he has to surpass Bolt. Bolt was athlete of the year like 5 to 6 times and I believe there is a bonus attached to be name athlete of the year from sponsors.

He’ll do what he says he does when he actually breaks a WR in the 200 or runs 9.7 low or an AR in the 100. To me, that’ll be when he warrants well deserved comparisons to Bolt and some of the greats from a decade ago (who were all on juice mind you). I don’t want to hear comparisons to Bolt when you’ve only run 9.80. Noah might’ve gotten bronze 10 years ago. Think about that. He’s not on that level yet.

13:02 Lyles says how he knew people didn’t ‘care’ about the 200 after he lost World Athlete Of The Year to Duplantis (which isn’t that bad, since Mondo did break the world record) despite breaking the American Record over 200m, yet this year he wins the 100m OLYMPIC gold and gets bronze in the 200m, yet isn’t even a finalist this?! Even more ironic, the fact that Tebogo - the 200m winner - is probably going to win World Male Athlete Of The Year instead (or at least come close)! I do agree with him though that the 100 is a lot more popular than the 200 and therefore wining the 100m World Championships/Olympics is more important than the 200. The issue is, I don’t think he’ll win either next year, so long as Thompson stays fit and doesn’t tense up (for the 100m) and Tebogo likewise for the 200. I really don’t think it’s likely he’ll be the favourite to win neither the 100 nor the 200 come LA 2028, so he may have unfinished business with the 200 (ironic, I know) for the rest of his life.
@Yes_I_c4n27 күн бұрын
Yeah, I see what you mean, though Tebogo won the 200m at the Olympics, which is always a taller order than winning it at Worlds, as everybody is so eager for the Olympics. Tebogo looks really solid in the 100m too. 3.80s split? That's impressive. He is well capable of going 2.57s from 30-60 and 3.37s from 60-100m. This puts him at 9.74s...
@AthleticsEditz27 күн бұрын
@@Yes_I_c4n Yeah, not to mention a 1.84 first 10m in Rome (if my splits are accurate - which I think/hope they are) which put him solidly ahead of Bolt in his 9.58 run lol. He also got a 2.87 0-20m in Rome (0.01 ahead of Bolt) and as you said, a 3.80 0-30m in Rome (0.02 behind Bolt). On his day he’s absolutely capable of running a sub 6.40 0-60m so a sub-9.80 is inevitable. Therefore, Tebogo should in theory be able to get out faster in the 200m than Lyles, since Lyles isn’t capable of even getting close to a sub-6.40 0-60m split over 100m. Lyles’ issue over 200m has been that he can’t get his first 50m-ish down whereas for Tebogo, in theory his first 50m should be fine - it’s Tebogo’s second 50m that’s costing him from running low 10s on the curve. Tebogo definitely has a 10.05/9.25 in him at some point over 200m so it’s really up to him as to whether or focus on the 100/200 double or the 200/400 double!
@tweeko265625 күн бұрын
I think Lyles forgot It’s athlete of the year, Tebogo had a better year by quite some margin than Lyles’ 2022 season. Running 9.8, 19.4(Olympic gold), 30.6(world record) and splitting 43.0 in the 400.

If Noah had run the 200 meters again, it would be over. Anyway, we know that Noah, no matter what, has haters.
