I've got a feeling everyone's gonna be calling him GOAT GOAT about 2 years from now. He ran 20.87 at 15, 20.04 at 17. I'm thinking 19.50 at 17 and 19.10 at 18. 300m and 400m likely gonna be taken by him too. I think his 100m ceiling is 9.70, unless he muscles up considerably. I've heard he's 6'2" but based on observations and fellow competitors they say he is 6'0". Might grow a little. His stride length is closer to Bolt than most (2 steps more), which is unheard of for a 6' athlete. Bolt was 6'5".

Just learned this yesterday but his name is actually Guot Guot pronounced "Gwot Gwot". His parents stated that the misspelling happened during their immigration process.

Wish they'd corrected this earlier, although it might be onerous and expensive to do a change of name if the whole family has the spelling wrong. It used to cost over A$100 to do a change of name here in Australia and he would need birth cert and passport reissued in the right name, over A$300 right now just to get a new passport.

He's actually already 20, common problem with incorrect birth certificate in Africa. Happens often in south Africa to secure sporting bursaries for black kids who are often 16 competing against 12 year old. Very prevelant and a major issue.

As an Australian I’d say it’s absolutely unbelievable we have this sprinting prodigy now. We have a lot of fantastic athletes across a lot of sports but Gout Gout has the potential to be the biggest Australian athlete and one of the biggest in the world in a few years. Incredible stuff.

For me this seals him as someone who isn't just an early bloomer. Even if he barely improves from now until seniors, you can do a hell of a lot with 9.3 closing speed. That's sub 19.5 potential right out the gate.

My first athlete hero was Carl Lewis back in 1990 when i was 9. There is something fundamentally awesome watching an athlete sprint like that. Gout/ Guot brings that nostalgia to track ✨️ .. great take Emerole !

What's so exciting about him is the huge gap between his top end speed and his start, which is sub par even in U18 standards. Seeing this gap, I am convinced that with age and strength training, his start and acceleration phase alone will be at least 0.3 sec faster, and this ignites the imagination.

As an Australian amateur track athlete I’m bloody excited to see what this kid might do in the next 5-10 years. What you said about Australia not being historically good in sprinting is absolutely true, and it’s something that we’ve had to accept, at least in the men’s division since probably Peter Norman (one of my sporting heroes). I just hope that Gout Gout doesn’t burn out or get pushed away from the sport due to overwhelming pressure or media attention. He’s got the best final 50m I’ve ever seen in a junior, and still has upside outside of the obvious maturing he has to do if he can work on his start.

Today, and I mean today he is a talented runner for his age. It's good to think what he can be but it should be tempered, it's way to soon to make him a world champion or olympian. He will be one to watch in the coming years.

S/O AUS's very successful WU20 Champs in Lima, Peru this yr with a massive 14 medals (2nd most behind USA's 16) led by the likes of Guot Guot, Cameron Myers, Delta Amidzovski, Claudia Hollingsworth & Torrie Lewis (now training with Bol & Klaver). Could turn out to be AUS's best generation of collective talent when looking ahead to a Home OLY (Brisbane '32). Have said this before, but ppl will unfortunately never stop looking for the 'Next Usain Bolt' when they should be excited about the sheer quantity & quality of U20 Talent coming through at the same time; Miller, Walaza, Nkoana, Boonson, Card, Richardson, Guot Guot, Levell, Israel Okon Sunday, Wilson, Ogazi, Kebinatshipi in addition to the likes of Knighton (20), Tebogo (21) & Udodi (21) who're all still very young! Speaking to 7News, his parents explained that his name's not in fact 'Gout Gout', but 'Guot' (named after his Grandfather). His father Bona clarified that his name's pronounced 'Gwot' & that an Arabic spelling mix-up by the Sudanese Govt was the cause of the mistake after his family fled the country to Egypt. "When I see people calling him Gout Gout, I’m not really happy for him...I know that gout is a disease name but I don’t want my son to be called a disease name... It’s something that’s not acceptable," he said. "It’s culturally very important and in particular if (family) see Guot Guot running they connect to the name but when they hear Gout Gout they’ve lost the meaning of it." CAN was the family's original destination (like Marco Arop's family) but the AUS Govt documents arrived first :)

Thanks for the 7News reference. I just saw that story yesterday night so going to try and pronounce it correctly moving forward to be as respectful as possible! Yea Australia has been making some serious noise this past year in the U18 and U20 realm. Will be interesting to see if they can continue to capitalize and develop on the talent over the next 5-10 years, specifically in the sprints to make a dent in the global landscape. A side note, I hear that World Athletics will bring back the U18 World Champs in 2029 after cancelling it in 2017 to allow countries and regions to focus on building their own youth talent. I dont know the exact reasons why, but I wouldn't be surprised if in general, World Athletics didn't see the results they were looking for in terms of U18 development from certain regions and now wants to step back in to work on things again.

You missed 16yo Thewbelle Philps, who ran the 3rd fastest 100m for an U/20 female at 16yo at 11.38. Her first 60m is around 7 seconds flat, which makes her top 5 women 60m runners in the world. Never seen any female with such a dynamic start. I'd bet on her against any female in the world over 40m. Thewbelle is also out of Queensland Australia, Gout Gout country.

I don't put much value into age group records, over the years I've seen many outstanding youth's with seemingly unlimited potential never improve and make an Olympic team. Roy Martin, Darrell Robinson, Henry Thomas, Stanley Floyd, Houston McTear etc.. Youth development varies and one 16 year old can be a boy and another a man.

These are all fair for sure. Thats why I didn't want to talk about him being the next Usain bolt, but more the why around our excitement when we see these performances. Regardless of if these athletes pan out, it gets us really really excited overall. But good call outs on how youth development varies!

I tend to have that same hesitation, but if the splits analysis is to be believed he can already close a 200 faster than many of the greatest in the sport (9.32). Even if he stagnated that's plenty to work with for a coach who knows what they're doing.

what are you talking about? the record has been held by Bolt for decades... the guy who broke every record and back to back olympic golds across all short distances... that guy who did all that... Guot Guot just beat Bolts youth record. So I dont understand what you are saying? No "outstanding youth" has come up randomly... the last person who set the record that he resently broke was the record held by the greatest sprinter of all time. Other top young sprinters do not come close to the records he is beating which is why everyone is so shocked. He is cleaning up records that were set by Bolt... the Goat.

Bolt has retired but his shadow looms large over track and field, he literally jogs 9.85 in qualifying rounds, or setting a world record of 9.69 while slowing down 20 metres from the line, only to then then have Marcell Jacobs wining Olympic gold in 9.80 I think says it all,

Explosive drills with weights (they don’t need to be heavy) and a crap ton of Plyometrics on the days he doesn’t sprint.
