Listen up. Unless he is doing tremendous great feats as a track athlete then he won't be recognized as anything special in the states. Track and field is not an American sport to sit and cheer for a team over hot dogs and beer for at least an hour with friends. It doesn't strikes up an argument and does not have stats anyone cares about. There is no jersey to be worn in support of an athlete or team. A track athlete is not looked upon as a player. A soccer star would garnish more attention. It's just the American culture. Usain Bolt on the other hand has done extraordinary feats which gains the world's attention plus his charisma of loving the sport and his chilled enjoyable vibes makes him a worldwide star. Jamaica has a rich track heritage from school level competition that creates a buzz in the air. This long standing tradition has been around from as early as 1910 until in the 1930 and 40s became competitive worldwide in the Olympics. There is also no expensive gears to buy for the poor to compete. They just need to run.

You’re making a lot of good points. There are some inherent problems track would have to overcome to reach the level of popularity of the most popular team sports in the US. It’s not something that has a simple or obvious solution. I do think that current and former athletes are doing a good job on social media promoting the sport, as are some other creators like TRP. If you make good content people will tune in. Rivalries and drama can also be helpful in getting more casual fans to tune in. While some might not like it because it “tarnishes the purity of the sport”, having some beef between competitors or some “bad guy” that people can root against can be very effective.
@_AT41Ай бұрын
Also, I personally would wear a jersey to support my favorite track athlete if something like that existed. Maybe if there was a standard warm up uniform or something, they could do a lot better with the marketing.

So Maurice's Track Persona is different to his real personal outside of the camera.

Remember the Americans were the first to say bolt celebrations after winning was not sportsmanlike. So I am glad you mention the green machine. And that clip of extinguishing the spikes. I love the competition I love the hype I love the media boost I love the sport. Gone are the days when Micheal Johnson, Quincy watts Carl Lewis Frankie Fredrick Otto Boldon,Gwen, Gail, Merline, Marie Jose use to be so serious and tense like it’s a war battlefield . Bolt bring the fun and in that period everyone game was lifted. That’s when the world saw some of the fastest times in track history. Justin, Tyson , yohan, asafa ,nesta. One of the worst things for me is to see everyone in a final so tense the winning time is a mere 9.95 or low 10’s, that’s not entertainment. It’s like a waste of money

Nice presentation but I disagree with your "show off" assessment of Maurice Greene. He's from an era of sprinting when rivalry and attitude colored the sport. He was just a confident competitor who believed in his skills but also understood the attention and value of entertainment. He's a trailblazer. A 100m Legend.🏃🏽🏃🏽🏃🏿🏃🏿♂

The United States have so many sports that bring in revenues. Bigger sports like football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, etc. Track dont generate money.
@thesportslineup18 күн бұрын
Because they don't promote it enough.
@nattyswede29 күн бұрын
The US is about the market. American Football, baseball and basketball are all revenue driving sports that straddle the entertainment industry. Track & Field in the US has done a poor job of promoting itself and therefore it attracts less revenue. It´s not rocket science. It's just the way it is. Every four years, because of the Olympics, there is an extra focus on track & field. Just like gymnastics or swimming. That´s when athletes in "smaller sports" can shine and get attention. This from a US perspective. In other parts of the world, track is huge (in Europe for example) and the stars are household names. The money still sucks in comparison, but again, that´s because of the revenue generated.

first of all NIKE is not a little sponsor. i'm sure jamaicans are clamoring to get a sponsorship from NIKE. secondly, it's laughable for a jamaican talking about America. be careful, you're being paid in American dollars from an American company. at the end of the day, Noah is an American and will stay an American. He understands the opportunites in America versus Jamaica. i have always found it ironic that one would defect its homeland for another, yet sing the praises of the defected land. if it were all of that, you'd still be there, one would think.
