iPad Pro vs. Surface Pro has been discussed for years and it's still the same answer. They may both be tablets but they are really two different classes of device. Despite the few steps forward that have been taken by iPad OS in recent years, it's still essentially a mobile OS with notable limitations in terms of file management, multitasking, and some other factors, while the Surface is an outright Windows PC in tablet form. There's advantages and disadvantages to both, but it ultimately just comes down to is i(Pad)OS enough to meet your computing needs or do you need a more traditional "computer".

ms p While as I said above, I think that the iPad is still limited in a lot of ways compared to a full computer, I have to disagree with that extreme a criticism. It might have been somewhat true when iPads debuted over 10 years ago, but with tons of tablet optimized apps that can’t even be installed on an iPhone, split screen multitasking (though still not as good as a Surface or laptop), compatibility with accessories like keyboards and the Apple Pencil, more powerful internal specs, and just way more screen real estate, your thinking is way out of date if you think than an iPad is just a bigger iPhone.

MY experience with both devices has been great. I have used both the iPad Pro and Surface Pro 7 as my daily drivers, and from my experience, my opinion is that the iPad is a great substitute for a fully functional desktop PC hybrid. However, where I feel the iPad still falls short is in the storage management category. I also feel that the iPad falls short of the Surface Pro line, is that Microsoft products or apps on the iPad are still not full-featured like what is on the Surface Pro 7. I get relatively the same battery life on both, the same typing experience; depending on the keyboard you use on the iPAd of course, and both are great for students. If your more of an Art Major then I would say an iPad. If your using more for professional work then I would say the Surface Pro 7.

@@TheAmazinRaven1 I am not sure. However, something to keep in mind about the two products is the operating system. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. The iPad, it’s strength is the App Store. You forgot to mention with the Surface Pen, if you go into settings, you can set what happens if you click the eraser once, twice, or keep holding it - launch different applications / programs. Apple pencil can’t do that, for the time being. Also, to “right click”, there are two ways using the Surface pen: (1) Hold down a link with the tip of the pen and wait for the menu to pop up, or (2) Press and hold the side button and press the link quickly with the tip of the pen, and a menu should pop up. Quite helpful in KZbin when trying to open a link (video) in a new tab without the keyboard attached!

I had to make this decision back in September 2020. I ended up going with the surface, because of the desktop software you get and overall versatility is greater when compared to the ipad. I like it so far, the bezels are ideal for when you want to use it as a tablet, it gives your fingers something to rest on. The display itself is excellent, it's very sharp. It has a great webcam, better then most laptops. Face id has worked well for me. If you're someone who is looking to use one of these as your only and main laptop then I'd reccomend the surface Pro as it has a batter laptop experience. If you strictly want a tablet then go for the ipad. The surface keyboard is a must.

This is very easy; if you are mainly doing tablet work, say 80%, then the iPad Pro is a walkover, it is the only choice, Window's tablets are far inferior, mainly due to the apps, but also the UI and ability. This gap will only widen in the near future with the move by Apple towards universal apps. If your workflow is more in tune with a laptop workflow then you probably would not even be thinking about a tablet as even the Surface Pro as a laptop is tainted by its capability as a laptop (on your lap). For many of us that are close to 50% each, as a laptop and a tablet use-case then we do the most sensible thing and buy both as they will maximize productivity. This 2-in-1 philosophy only works if the product can do both as well as the standalone devices, and to date, I cannot find one that does. So for the sake of convenience, I certainly would never advocate a lesser experience, and carrying two devices is a small price to pay for a superior more efficient, and productive workflow. Affordability may initially be used as an excuse, but if you improve productivity then it is an investment that will pay for itself over time.

When it comes to these two Tablets, I feel that both are student worthy, but it depends on the type of student. If the student is doing most work online, then I feel that the iPad would be the way to go. It is great for note-taking, multitasking, document creation, and of course online work. However, when it comes to the Surface Pro 7, I feel the device is great for those who are completing their work online and offline. My workflow is done both online and offline. What I love about the Surface Pro 7 is that it is an all-around workhorse. I can have multiple windows open, multitask during Zoom calls without sacrificing my video feed, better internet browser experience, and lastly the variety of ports. I use my PC for all business-related tasks, such as word processing, drafting documents, etc. However, for content creation, a PC tablet like the Surface Pro doesn't work for me because there are no apps that compare to the Apple apps, which cover content creation, video editing, photo editing, and does all of that much faster and efficiently with the pencil - I can create a video in a fraction of the time it takes me to create the same reel on a PC (laptop or tablet). Thank you for the solid review.

One thing I’ve noticed: (I use a Surface for work and an iPad Pro for everything else productive.) The build-quality. After three days of use, the Surface Pro’s bezels and the corners of the screen were already “loose”/pushing in. Didn’t feel very secure at all in its housing. The Surface isn’t nearly as high-quality or as seamlessly designed as the iPad. The durability, robustness, materials etc. Well, I’m sure this is an obvious fact; considering Apple’s premium pricing. But I believe it’s worth it. I know my iPad will last me several years compared to the Surface. Plus, my iPad generally feels more comfortable to use. Yet it still all depends on one’s preferences and priorities.

Rumors actually show the ipad air will be getting an all screen display with touch ID built into the side mounted power button. I really do hope that is true, cause I’d pick that up in addition to the surface pro 8 that’s due out soon.

Surface pro 8 needs to copy the design of the surface pro X...desperately. I just recently sold my 12.9 ipad pro because the multitasking on it still sucks pretty bad. Really wish there was a good alternative for a 13 inch+ tablet.

I could sense your pro Apple bias in this review. You mention note taking on both machines as being about equal. Okay now that you have the note what can you do with them and which is the easiest to integrate into say a word or page doc. Also which is the lowest cost to get a nice suite of productivity apps? Once the data is in the machine which one has the easiest way to manipulate and use that data. Say I want to create a simple spread sheet, which allows me the most easiest to move the spreadsheet to something like notes so the main info is really available. Or I have a picture found on the Internet which would allow me to integrate that into a word or page content.

For me I think I’d get a superior computer experience with the Surface but a superior tablet experience with the IPad
@h.b.hatecraft9534 жыл бұрын
One's a fully working computer and the other is a tablet. Why would you pay more to get less?
@woodcider4 жыл бұрын
The iPad has infinitely more superior apps.
@h.b.hatecraft9534 жыл бұрын
Yes because a limited toy with apps is better than a fully functional machine running Windows OS and actual programs. 🤣 You Crapple cultists are so funny. As far as Android and apps go. I guess you might have missed this but they've got all the same apps as Apple and more. Also you can side load any apk you want even if it's not in the Google or Amazon play store. Lastly you can side load iTunes and Apple apps on any android device. That's what freedom looks like. So even if we were talking about Android and apps you'd still be wrong.🤣

Hey Noah, trivial question for you. Would you buy a refurbished ipad from someone? It says the limited warranty is still good and they want 370 but it’s essentially third hand🧐 was wondering if you can lend some advice, thanks!
@AbidKhan-lr5wb3 жыл бұрын
The basic difference is in the OS! Secondly, when you compare goodnotes and notability, then do it with onenote rather than anyother inferior 3rd party software...

@@TheVagnik Not always as it vastly depends but nearly everyone was able to get it upto atleast 90hz but many people also got it upto 120hz yes it is possible at that high resolution even on the i5 variant the surface pro has a nice screen so it is pretty easy just check about it check the guide on youtube for the surface pro 3 it is basically the same process also check the one on reddit in the surface sub reddit

I want to get one of these specifically for digital art as in just virtual drawings which would you recommend? I’m actually new to digital art so I won’t be doing anything crazy like 2d or 3D animation and I have a powerful msi laptop if I do end up venturing into the territory. I don’t want either to replace my current laptop I just want the better drawing experience not just in quality of the pencil but also app compatibility, which feel better to use as digital paper to draw on etc etc. I feel like the iPad is probably the answer based on what you said in the video but I’m just wondering if there’s any advantage to having a Surface Pro 7 if it’s only gonna be for digital drawings?
