Diospyros virginiana is American persimmon. Very small and extremely chalky texture if not totally ripe and bursting at the skin. Diospyros kaki is the huge, sweet variety found across Eastern Asia. The tree itself is much smaller than American persimmon and makes for a wonderful addition to an edible garden in southeastern US.

@deannairvine61236 жыл бұрын
Do you eat? Do you know how many hands work to make your loaf of bread, or gallon of milk? It would be wonderful if all our food could be hand grown organically, but since only 2% of our population grows food for all the rest (down from 50% of all of us being farmers), very much respect is owed to those who make it possible to go to full shelves at the grocery store. Most farmers are not greedy and careless, or they are not in business for long, let alone generations. Go spend a couple of weeks “vacationing” on a working farm, then you can talk.

How do they keep the birds / wildlife from eating them while drying? Crows would snatch them up here!
@dianemoril76124 жыл бұрын
perhaps there are enough food for wildlife elsewhere. crows wouldn't come if they had enough to eat. humans take everything from nature and complain about wildlife. we have to share, not to take everything, giving up sometimes. I know no wild animal wich love to come near human houses for any reason. they do it when they have no other choice.

The turnaround and resiliency is astounding. Their culture does come at a cost, though. High suicide rates and low birth rates are a sign of a culture that is somewhat lost. I don't know how close to Korean culture Japan is, but I lived in Korea and the cultural pressure and conformity was stunning from a Western perspective. If Japan is similar, then it's not exactly something to envy.
