Chomsky speaks truth to power and tells it like it is every time. The human costs of this horrific war are all but impossible to bear. But, the global and planetary costs far outweigh those of any previous conflicts. NATO and the Russian coalition absolutely must negotiate for peace immediately.
@limbus_patrum9 ай бұрын
1. It seams you don't even recognize existence of Ukraine in those negotiations. It's war between *Ukraine* and Russia. They have a right of self determination. 2. Who is this "Russian coalition"? 3. Negotiations are impossible when Russia don't want to negotiate. What i mean by it; "total unconditional surrender of Ukraine" is not a condition any country would agree. 4. Putin's regime not only claims entire Ukraine but also the right to decide who can be in what military or economical alliances. They officially don't recognize any change after 1991 with exception of German reunification (the latter was questioned only on national television but not officially by the regime.). The help Ukraine gets from NATO stems from this threat to whole Eastern Flank. As a Pole, I can say with certainty: WE (Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine) DO NOT WANT TO RETURN TO THE STATUS OF A RUSSIAN COLONY.

I agree with this view whole heartedly. There will be no “winner” on the battlefield. Medea Benjamin and Nicolas Davies have spelled it out in there latest book, “War in Ukraine, Making Sense of a Senseless Conflict”. Henry Kissinger said “Having America as an enemy is dangerous, while having us as a friend is deadly.” That’s never been truer than in the case of Ukraine.

I agree I think they should negotiate a peace agreement and mutual respect for each others sovereignity an unwavering committment to each others security by flatly disallowing any alignment with NATO as in membership and in ever permitting NATOs activities, missles or any such equipment or activity along their shared borders or within the country's territory. This is crucial for security and integrity in any ageement they can reach, they must assure each others security and sovereignity.
@bw93809 ай бұрын
But this is exactly what Putin don't want. He don't want to respect others sovereignty, as he did in 2008, 2014, 2022. Only way for Ukraine to be sovereign is trough mutual alliances that will protect them.

A negotiated settlement that restores Ukraine's territorial integrity would be great, and would be considered defeat by Putin and unacceptable. Letting Putin keep Crimea and the Donbas would reward invasive behavior, sending a message to Putin and to China that invasion to change borders still works. Chomsky is OK with that?
