Thanks to the ever-growing community and developers. Linux really got some serious progression these years. I still remember the only game I could play on Linux was "moon buggy", which runs in a terminal console, using ASCII letters to simulate a moon buggy avoiding craters.
@dadapotok Жыл бұрын
i somewhat envy people unfamiliar with fascination and addiction of traditional roguelikes (most which, indeed, run on ASCII to this day, but not exclusively - there's now also optional or default tiles or even 3D). gamers and devs communities, and % of free and open source games in the genre amazes me. there's something truly special in the formula of making games that would be challenging, unpredictable and interesting to the gamemakers themselves.

There's a little program called Wub, or Windows Update Blocker, with a simple UI that entirely prevents situations like this. It does exactly what it says on the tin and only that. No more getting sent to the purple screen without your consent!
@GapRecordingsNamibia6 ай бұрын
@@savagej4y241 I am sorry to say it, but, that is still not a solution for the greater problem, the problem is the FORCED update, the issue is crashing because of said FORCED update, the main issue is being FORCED, hence the capitalised text, and, windows "ASSUMPTION" of operating hours, as if all desktops are used by business's exclusively.... This is one of the many reasons why I am slowly weening myself of windows dependant programs, I am finding either alternatives to those I used on windows for use on linux and if there is none then I am simply going to make do without, taking into account the further spyware being introduced (CoPilot and Recall, which at some point WILL become mandatory), then this all becomes a no brainer. Okay... As I have an NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti and I want to use a magnifier built right into GNOME, I have had a hard time trying out Nobara Linux. When I activate the GNOME Magnifier, the desktop is very sluggish. Deactivate the magnifier and everything returns to normal. I will have to rewatch the video to figure out how to change the layout of the desktop as it's very promising, but until then, I'll stick with Debian that runs a GNOME desktop. Another issue I had is that GNOME did log me out once when I was trying out the live demo. And sometimes the screen will just go black on me. (Oh, never mind. Changing layouts can be found in the ArcMenu Settings. Thanks.) If I go with AMD GPU, things would have been a whole lot smoother for me, but I wanted an NVIDIA GPU for use with Blender rendering. I'm running at a resolution of 3840x2160 at 60Hz. Update: Looking over the video, I noticed that you video shows an Anaconda installer while I had the Calameres version. I prefer the Anaconda installer, but then, to each their own. I downloaded the December 5th version of the ISO. Update 2: I wonder if I can get the 11-08 version of the ISO...

Just worked for about everything I needed it to out of the box after installing the recommendations from the welcome application. Looks good. I've never tried a Fedora based distro for some reason, will give it a go.

The author GloriousEggroll is quite popular in Linux Gaming with his frequent custom Proton versions for Steam. So if he decides to create a gaming distro, chances are it should be pretty well sorted. What surprises me though is why he chose a Fedora base since the upcoming SteamOS for desktop (the one running on Steam Deck) is based on Arch Linux. Had he based the distro on that, there would have been less work and much more adaptation I think.

Arch Linux, Ubuntu, Fedora.... Steam OS... it doesn't matter, its the same GNU eco system. I imagine he went for Fedora because he works for Red Hat.

@notjustforhackers4252 Fedora is as good as it gets, all on its own. Certainly, there is nothing to make an issue about.

Nobara has one of the best icons i've ever seen on a distro. Damn!

Have been using Nobara KDE for 5-6 months. It's very stable and even when I have issues (looking at you Nvidia drivers) they can be easily resolved(one time I was getting black screen; I waited, it was fixed)

Yeah I've been running Nobara since it came out (or soon after.) I had recently switched away from Garuda (Arch) to Fedora to get something a bit more stable. Switching from Fedora to Nobara added a bit of instability back(FREQUENT patches) but overall it's quite nice. Especially since I've got an AMD graphics card and variable refresh rate monitor (it includes AMD encoder support in OBS studio as well as the kernel patches for VRR.) I've had to re-load the OS once due to an issue with the mesa libs getting hosed after Glorious Eggroll broke out some libs into a second package. Try as I might I couldn't get the patches to take. That might have been user error though. It made me consider moving back to plain Fedora but the stuff GE patches in is too good and I'm too lazy to want to try to do all that myself, so I'm sticking with it. It's a little more active/cutting edge than I might like if I had a choice but since it's not my work/effort/time I'm happy to take what I can get. Overall I would recommend if you're wanting to game/stream, especially with cutting edge hardware (VRR monitors, brand new graphics cards, etc..). If you're not a gamer/streamer and/or you want something super stable maybe stick to vanilla Fedora.

You got my like the moment you corrected my pronunciation of GNOME ...I've been saying it wrong for years!! (Although to my credit, at least I pronounce GIF properly)

(UPDATED) This looks like a nice distro, although my personal favourite Linux distro is Linux Mint. I'll have to try Nobara Linux out sometime, as I have not used it before. Great video with a lot of useful info!

Great video! Good overview and explanation of the distro. I use Ubuntu but I think I’ll try Nobara for a new experience.

Thanks, especially for the section on DaVinci Resolve. I gave up trying to install it on my only suitable Linux system (the only one with a decent graphics card) so might give this one a go. I'm surprised that Blackmagic haven't said anything about ongoing Linux support in the light of all the changes at CentOS.

Hi Graham. You probably appreciate more than most viewers how useful and impressive the DaVinci Resolve install is here. :) I agree that it is very strange that Blackmagic Design have not indicated a future routemap.

I noticed the 11 desktop theme! Sorry but that is one I will not use! I also like my panel on the top! and another panel on the left with all quick launch icons for apps. That is how I setup my Linux desktop on all my systems. PS - I really liked your on screen doppelgänger! 😆
