Thanks to the ever-growing community and developers. Linux really got some serious progression these years. I still remember the only game I could play on Linux was "moon buggy", which runs in a terminal console, using ASCII letters to simulate a moon buggy avoiding craters.

i somewhat envy people unfamiliar with fascination and addiction of traditional roguelikes (most which, indeed, run on ASCII to this day, but not exclusively - there's now also optional or default tiles or even 3D). gamers and devs communities, and % of free and open source games in the genre amazes me. there's something truly special in the formula of making games that would be challenging, unpredictable and interesting to the gamemakers themselves.

Few notes for new Linux users giving this a try..... AMD gamer's, do NOT install the "Pro Drivers" ( For Resolve only ). Users with multi monitors using different refresh rates should use "Wayland" ( desktop display server ). NVIDIA users with multi monitors using different refresh rates should use the GNOME edition. Nobara, apparently, also supports the Steam Deck. Great video Chris as always.

@@savagej4y241 I am sorry to say it, but, that is still not a solution for the greater problem, the problem is the FORCED update, the issue is crashing because of said FORCED update, the main issue is being FORCED, hence the capitalised text, and, windows "ASSUMPTION" of operating hours, as if all desktops are used by business's exclusively.... This is one of the many reasons why I am slowly weening myself of windows dependant programs, I am finding either alternatives to those I used on windows for use on linux and if there is none then I am simply going to make do without, taking into account the further spyware being introduced (CoPilot and Recall, which at some point WILL become mandatory), then this all becomes a no brainer. Okay... As I have an NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti and I want to use a magnifier built right into GNOME, I have had a hard time trying out Nobara Linux. When I activate the GNOME Magnifier, the desktop is very sluggish. Deactivate the magnifier and everything returns to normal. I will have to rewatch the video to figure out how to change the layout of the desktop as it's very promising, but until then, I'll stick with Debian that runs a GNOME desktop. Another issue I had is that GNOME did log me out once when I was trying out the live demo. And sometimes the screen will just go black on me. (Oh, never mind. Changing layouts can be found in the ArcMenu Settings. Thanks.) If I go with AMD GPU, things would have been a whole lot smoother for me, but I wanted an NVIDIA GPU for use with Blender rendering. I'm running at a resolution of 3840x2160 at 60Hz. Update: Looking over the video, I noticed that you video shows an Anaconda installer while I had the Calameres version. I prefer the Anaconda installer, but then, to each their own. I downloaded the December 5th version of the ISO. Update 2: I wonder if I can get the 11-08 version of the ISO...

It's a very nice distro. For someone looking to dive into Fedora, it does a lot of initial heavy lifting. I was using it for quite a while as my main workstation, and everything worked great. I find this comparable to Pop OS, but for Fedora users as far as user experience. I'm so used to XCFE, I had switched from it recently to official 37 spin. However, well worth it to use Nobara! Just worked for about everything I needed it to out of the box after installing the recommendations from the welcome application. I will say, it isn't too difficult to get a similar experience from official Fedora. Albeit, a handful of inital steps (like nvidia drivers / etc). I just say this, because some may be interested in running something different than Gnome/KDE. Thanks for sharing! (:

I didn't expect to see this gaming-centric distro on this channel, but I'm glad you did it. I've been using it on my computers for some time and honestly, considering what most users are looking for in an OS, it's become my new no1 pick for a new user. That said, Fedora installer is a pig, the partitioning tool is horrible, if you actually want to do anything with your partitions but to let it do everything automatically, or if you have multiple drives, good luck. Still, if you're a newcommer with someone more experienced around to help with these issues, it's just amazing.

The author GloriousEggroll is quite popular in Linux Gaming with his frequent custom Proton versions for Steam. So if he decides to create a gaming distro, chances are it should be pretty well sorted. What surprises me though is why he chose a Fedora base since the upcoming SteamOS for desktop (the one running on Steam Deck) is based on Arch Linux. Had he based the distro on that, there would have been less work and much more adaptation I think.

This video got me poking around in Steam, and I have successfully played the Sims 4, Skyrim, Dead Space, Half-Life 2, as well as (even MORE retro) games like Shadow Warrior and Doom on my little Latitude E5450 running Ubuntu 22.04. Can't wait to try Nobara, but Linux gaming with Steam and Proton looks promising indeed.

Now this sounds like a great result! :) I get the impression that you are going to be playing a lot of games in Linux.

"We can make a video inside a video, how exciting is that!?". It's even more exciting than running with Mr Scissors, but probably not so dangerous

I think you should make a short called ExclaimingComputers that's a compilation of sound bytes of you saying things like Mr. Scissors or something. April 1st isn't far away. You could add in some PC beeps, too.

I really do love Nobara. It takes the great aspects of Fedora and makes everything so much more usable and optimized out-of-the-box. I recently covered it in a video of my own.

Best improvement of all: Nautilus (GNOME/Official file manager): - classic type-ahead functionality has been restored. This allows you to start typing to go to the file closest to the typed text within the folder instead of initiating a full system search.

Thanks, especially for the section on DaVinci Resolve. I gave up trying to install it on my only suitable Linux system (the only one with a decent graphics card) so might give this one a go. I'm surprised that Blackmagic haven't said anything about ongoing Linux support in the light of all the changes at CentOS.

Hi Graham. You probably appreciate more than most viewers how useful and impressive the DaVinci Resolve install is here. :) I agree that it is very strange that Blackmagic Design have not indicated a future routemap.

I am seriously considering throwing away Widows and move to Linux, but I was unsure (still am) about Linux limitations regarding drivers for various divices or apps such as DXO Photolab, Topaz, Affinity Photo and Davinci Resolv, and some other important apps. It is of course not Linux's fault that these companies don't develop drivers or adapt their software to Linux, but still. But it is a great relief to see that with this version of Linux one can install Davinci R. easily and the app runs stably...Thank you!

It's great if you don't have NV GPU. If you do it will do a roughly 5GiB download just to install the drivers...In saying that just this weekend I arranged a LAN with 10 pcs all running Nobara KDE. It worked great.
