I ordered this car and im very exited about it. I think is one of the best electric car for the price at the moment and im gomna use it for longer distances 1000+ km. Most people dont get the ideea of an electric powertrain. First off all when you go in a long trip you use only the ccs dc rapid chargers. You stop 20-30 min every ~200km witch is anyway a good ideea for a break, and charge from 10% to max. 80%. Of course that after 70, 80% you get charge throttling, its obvious. You can do any trip with this car if you have the infrastructure which is in continuous development. I just see too much missinformation about this this technology but again maybe is not for everyone. Just think about the air you breath, and the effects it causes to the ecosystem.

I drive an e208 which has the same range predictor - the software is very pessimistic. The best way to measure the car's efficiency and actual range is to check the battery % at the start and end, which can only be done in the app. I've driven it on motorway runs in England, starting on a full charge from home. 150 miles is easily within reach in average temperatures if you keep the speed at 70 mph, but the range rapidly declines with a heavier right foot or in wintry wet weather. A 300km run though would only need one charging stop, even in winter.

The brakes work this way: the first third of travel gives you regen braking (recovering electric from the inertia) which is much softer braking power, then the rest of the travel gives you physical braking. If you want to maximise your mileage, you'll use as much regen braking as you can. Drive in B mode and you'll get more regen as you go along. It is possible, if you are good at judging the distance to where you want to stop (it takes practice), to bring the Corsa to a dead stop without touching the brakes. As I say, it does take some practice so be careful when you first try.

I wanted to demonstrate the difference motorway driving can have on the range. I cover the battery warranty in the video to be fair. It's important to know how much the charging slows down after 80% too. I have a home charger and that last stretch to 100% is very slow - I've an e208 outside on the driveway this week and it is the same. Check out Bjorn Nyland he did a review where he kept charging the car along a 1,000km drive to get it charging below 80% but to keep moving quickly. The 20%-80% from Opel are displayed on screen too so all in all, I think it's balanced. It gets us all chatting though about the car - that's exactly what I want :)

Everyone needs to drive long distance occasionally. So to get this car from say Drogheda to Cork. 300km. Charge fully overnight (grand). Stop twice?? And hope destination charger and have range anxiety for last 50km. Journey taking an extra 2 or 3 hours too. Be better rent a car. Which defeats purpose of owning one. This all with brand new car. Good topic about motorway range! The E-Corsa is NOT a 'built from ground up' EV! Its the main cause of range problems at higher speeds. This car has the same design and aerodynamics as the petrol variants. As an EV, this car is not great. Its a petrol car with a EV option! This is why you don't get anything special or innovative for your money. The Zoe, Leaf, Model 3, Iconic are real 'built from ground up EV's', they offer better aerodynamics at higher speeds and are designed to use batteries and electric motors in a more efficient manor. For example, a used Hyundai Iconic 28Kwh will travel 105 miles on a motorway if you keep it @70mph. This E-Corsa has almost double the battery capacity, so its efficiency is terrible, it's an 'Electron Guzzler' so its not the that cheap to run. If you dont mind stopping to charge on a rapid every 75miles then its not really a problem. But for half the money you can pick up a used EV with better motorway range.
@gn69124 жыл бұрын
Why would you stop every 75 miles? Car can do double that before requiring charging.
@MrShingart4 жыл бұрын
@@gn6912 yeh 150miles in milder seasons but in middle of winter it gets less range. My thinking is most people don't drive the full range before rapid charging. From owning an eV for a few years now i tend to look for a rapid charge around the 30% charge mark. So u have back up range incase of a faulty or busy charger. That's why I was referring to traveling around 75 mile mark on the motorway at high speeds before thinking about looking for your next charge. Of course as you mention the average combined range is higher than this but from doing a lot of motorway driving I find that in most cases I start around the 80%, I'm a huge supporter of EV's and the tech but i fear most poeple won't jump on EV's untill u can truly travel around 200 miles at 70mph in winter. Some of us have and do put up with a lot less and some don't do a lot of motorway driving so I can still understand the choices taken on the shared EV platform they used. Not so much a negitive comment just more of an observation. Although saying this I find that I can maximise motorway range by sticking at 60mph, it can be a little frustrating at times but you can back 25percent of your cars capacity. A few years from now when the second hand market starts to populate these cars and similar will be a bargain. At the moment, the people that have the cash to buy new are the folk that help pioneer the tech and move the industry forward.

A lot of cars throttle off between 70-80. Most people only rapid charge to 70-80% on the road. In my opinion I don’t think EV’s are quite there yet in terms of real usable range, even at 80%. More suited for short distance trips. Wouldn’t want to road trip in one. Better off with a plug in hybrid or hybrid if your budget doesn’t stretch that much. You get the combustion engine to fall back on
