She had a libel case in the Philippines coz a private citizen (businessman) sued her for the malicious online article written about him that were not true. Ressa played well as the victim by lying on why she was sued. She tried to advocate as human rights fighter but she can NOT condemned the human rights abuses towards the Filipinos committed by the CPP/NPA/NDF terrorist organizations in the Philippines. Rappler, online news she runs is one of the LEAST TRUSTED media in the Philippines due to its biased articles and fake news as well. Ressa enjoys destroying former pres. Duterte but she can't put this man down...he was consistent on high approval ratings during his entire term as pres. I've personally watched Ressa being interviewed by a US media in 2020 where she literally lied on the statistics she gave...unfortunately the US media never fact-checked her. She's not a trusted media person amongst the Filipinos in the Philippines for legitimate reasons.

Before you judge the Filipinos in the Philippines...please try to educate yourself by researching and ask these logical questions: why was she sued (cyberlibel case) by a private citizen (businessman) in the Philippines and the businessman won the case? why is Rappler (online news she runs) one of the LEAST TRUSTED news outlets in the Philippines? why CAN'T Ressa condemned the human rights abuses on the Filipinos committed by the CPP/NPA/NDF terrorist organizations in the Philippines? why did Duterte consistently receive high approval ratings from the Filipinos during his entire presidency despite Ressa damaging his reputation? why is she losing credibility in the many eyes of the Filipinos? @@geneveivecabildo5260 First off the cyber libel case against her has clearly prescribed, the first posting of the article was 2012 while an update of the story (claimed to be the second posting) was in 2014. Clearly the action has prescribed since the prescriptive period for libel is one year and the case was filed in 2017. I know that rappler is not that trustworthy since its more akin to a propaganda machine than a news organization but that does not mean that the duterte administration was squeaky clean. His approval rating does not make his abuse of power justifiable, just look at what happened to De Lima, i am not gonna touch on her guilt or innocence but the deprivation of her liberty for such a long time without any case filed against her is a clear manifestation of the former president's strong-arm tactics to silence his critics.

You're right, so many Filipinos choose to praise and stay blind to the acts of the dictator's son, his family, and even charismatic but corrupt politicians' sins; and they continue to trash innocent people who are trying to build up this country. I find it stressful honestly just being here, but having Maria Ressa here to speak up confidently and bravely against corruption relieves my anxieties and renews my hope for a better and more peaceful country.

Filipinos really are pioneering in technology and it’s true Philippines has been the texting capital since the early 2000s and maybe even the start of the late 90s so there’s no doubt that the country got on board with Facebook and social media in general the moment they are introduced. On one hand it made us smarter as we acquire instant information but on the other it made us dependent on it.
