Shiraz Wine was/is well documented by Persian poets and merchants as well as the Roman merchants. During major decision makings Persian used to argue over the matter and then reconsider it while they were consuming Shiraz in order to scale the matter in both frames of mind.

Shiraz (in South Africa). I find the Tannin to be quite strong and do not drink at a restaurant as they tend to serve straight after opening and young vintages.
