Vinyl has changed the way i experienced music, its not an abstract and cold thing you stream from your phone, you have the record in you hands and that in some way makes you feel closer to the artist. It has also introduced me to a lot of music that i never thought i would like.

Records have the ability to inspire and also get you through dark times in your life. They can do so much for people in so many different ways. This is why we need to support record stores and those who sell on the internet that can't or don't want to take the plunge into the brick and mortar world. Records can change your life, as it did for you.

Growing up in Harlem the record stores use to have a speaker outside the store and you can listen to music all day long. Me and my best friend started with 45's and then it started to grow from there. My friend ended up being a professional musician for a time and to think it all started because of our youth. I still collect just as much music as I have always done for the past 60 plus years. I'm pretty sure that when they put me in the ground they will forget to put my name on my headstone but put my top 10 of all time instead.

To me nothing beats vinyl. Being 63 yrs old I remember constantly hanging out at my local record store. First albums bought were Jethro Tull benefit Jimi Hendrix axis bold as love & Beatles yesterday & today. My parents thank god when I was young instead of an allowance they bought me albums. First Blood Sweat & Tears Chicago 2 & basically every Beatles album or 45 that came out. I basically love 60s pop & bubblegum. Ohio Express the Association the Cowsills etc. Love the channel.

I collected records from a young age. Then, like many, I got out of it in the late 90s. In the mid 2000s I dove back in head first and haven't looked back. I appreciate music FAR more by just listening to vinyl if/when possible

My mother was killed in a car accident when I was 5 in 1975. I recall discovering her signature on her records a couple years later. Beatles, Stones, Carly Simon, Dionne Warwick, Drifters, are a few I listened to and loved. Records were "the" format along with tapes and I casually listened to music until the mid 80's when I caught the bug. While in high school I walked into a few record stores in Boston/Cambridge and the holy record spirit entered me and I was saved!!!! Ha ha ha.

One day when I was a young kid we received a flexible plastic Columbia records sampler at our house. On that disk were several music samples, but the one that turned the light on for me was Dave Brubeck's Take Five. Coolest thing I ever heard. That set me on the vinyl path. I have a small collection of vinyl, some very old and am still buying more. Thanks so much for this wonderful soulful video. God Bless you and your family.

For me it all started with The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. I don't remember much before this other than my parents listening to opera on the radio. Then came the transistor radio which was my present from my parents. The record player was given to us in 1969 from my parents uncle. I bought about 10 45's and had no idea that where I bought them, there might have been some grails? Then in 1970 I discovered the first FM rock station that not only played the LP longer versions, but introduced me to the rare records. I started to write down the names of the bands and albums. This quickly turned into a very large book. Now that I'm retired I've slowed down due to family priorities and inflation. Take care and ☮️.

Like yourself records were part of my identy. In high school I always carried records. I was lucky enough to date a girl who was a secretary at Columbia records for Clive Davis. She would give me 25 demo records a week for 2 years. I was selling records at school ($3 for a double LP and $2 for a single LP). When I graduated high school I got a job in Manhattan that Atlantic Records recorded and kept masters. I was blessed when they moved and left behind about 5000 CD's, many without the cover sheet. I made mad money selling on the streets of Manhattan. Zeppelin had a 3CD set that I had boxes of. I started having friends give me their record collections when CD's we're suppose to be a better sound. Point is that the record loving community are great friendly people who want others to enjoy what the enjoy in music. When you visit me you will leave with music that you expressed interest in or a early Peter Green Fleetwood Mac LP which I've made it my purpose in life to turn blues, rock listeners on to Peter Green, I feel responsible for over 100 Peter Green fans. I was also blessed with many gifts that molded my taste in music. My first gift was Freak Out by Zappa at age 12. I truly dig your story and feel your journey, you have gave of yourself and I will bet you are still giving to this day. Those that give never do without and you're been blessed because you are a giver. Pass it forward and you will be rewarded in life. Your wife and children are proof positive that you're a blessed man. (Sorry for rambling). Peace out brother.

It's great to hear a story of a lifelong passion for vinyl and several comebacks from almost nothing. I feel like I wouldn't have it in me to do that. I collected for about 20 years and recently decided to give up. I just found it was giving me more negative feelings than positive lately, but that is heavily tied to my attitude: perfectionism, FOMO, wanting to have every record etc... Watching this video kind of made me sad I gave up for a minute but really I should just be happy that I made the best decision for me and going digital has really freed me to focus on the music and listen to exactly what I want when I want with no practical considerations getting in the way. I really do understand the draw to the physical connection of vinyl and the true feeling of ownership though so if that's what makes you happy then rock on!

Hi Noble, You get the record, the album art, often easily frameable, lp notes and credits, and the sound and the music, and the memories. Great hobby for anybody who loves music. So many ways to enter. From the Goodwill on up!! I have bought a lot of music and stereo equip from thrift stores. I bought my 1st records with my newspaper route and golf caddy money. Steve Miller Band and David Bowie and Toys in the Attic and Bohemian Rhapsody were near my first couple of buys. Cheers Noble and Thanks for the Memories!

I know well the passion of the collector and especially of the record collector. I'm stuck with records - like you - since 1972. Although I'm watching you from Greece, I have a similar experience to yours, but as a customer of a unique record store in Athens. From this store, I have got 60% of the records of my current collection and I am still a customer and friend of his. In the 1980s, he sold records every Sunday in a square where many street vendors set up makeshift benches. At one point, the police chased them and he had to find a small shop to put the records. Because I knew him from the square, I also went to his shop and so we came closer. At the same time he decided to go to the US to bring records, which were difficult or impossible to find in Greece (there was no internet). And that's exactly the time of the CD invasion, when stores in America did not know what to do with the vinyls they had on their shelves and in their warehouses. I still remember him calling me to let me know that the boxes came from America! That was it, he grew the store but also his family, and I my collection.

For me records are a lot of more than music. When I go to my local record shops - they are like friends, customers and owners. It's a place where I can share my hobby with same mind of people. Also the fun to find something you have tried to find years or just find something you did not expect. Have got many friends that like records + equipment's. At home I can spend long time just to see my collection, find records I did not remember that I had, find a record and then I remember the story behind the record...where I bought it, why and from who... - Record collecting (all included) is "a bit" like own world that connects people all over the world but what a nice and happy world this is :)

Thank you so much for this video! Some of your story really spoke to my own life. My oldest son is Autistic. I remember starting out life living in a small apartment and having a huge record collection. Having a crappy job and trying to make it on NOTHING! Having to sell off my records just to survive and support my family. I was just having a conversation with someone, this very morning, before watching your video. Talking about music and records. How they meant more as touchstones and connections to family, friends and times gone by. That they were bigger than the simple record itself. About being a part of a "community" of people who love music. How it opens the doors to becoming friends with people you never dreamed of. Music is the thread that bines us all. Then I see you video pop up. LOVED IT! Thank you for all the videos you put out. Keep up the great work.

Excellent video. Dillon, I admire your passion and determination. Your love of music, family and friends is contagious. When I was a kid, luckily I had a BFF, a drummer, Nick, who was into music as much as me. He exposed me to a lot of British rock from the 60's. He and his old lady are still around and still into mainly blues and some classic rock. My other friends would get sick of me only talking about new music, never sports or other hobbies. I'm kind of into my 3rd wave of accumulating vinyl and vintage stereo equipment. I readily admit much of it is re-purchases of stuff I lost or had stolen from me. Keep on spinning.

Thanks so much for sharing your story Dillion! I really enjoyed getting to hear how you got into records and how it has changed over the years. Your spot on with how records can bring people together and how much it means to the customer when you the shop owner remember them and the record they are looking for. I know a few of the local shop owners in my town well and when they call me about a record or let me know when I come in it means a lot. it's nice because you find that record, but even more so because like you said it's that personal relationship. Keep up the great work Dillion! I always enjoy hearing your thoughts and watching your videos. I have about 1000 records in storage, my old collection from when I was young, my dad's collection which has been topped up by small collections of friends and family who donated as they moved to CD/streaming. Music has always been my passion! I always loved the classics every since I was a little boy. A had a friend who’s older brother listened to good music, and I sort of looked up to him at the time. I started off collecting CDS when I was like 8, and literally always had them in my back pack when I went to school. They were sort of like my “security object” and I would always listen to my portable CD player on my way to/from school. Over time, I gradually worked my way up to vinyl. By age 12 I had my first record player (the cheap wooden one with a build in CD/tape deck). Even though sound quality wasn’t the best, I really enjoyed the act of putting on a record. I LOVED going to the shops and getting a new album. I saw high fidelity when I was about 11 years old, and I became fascinated with records every since. Similar to what you said, all my friends were into sports and stuff but music has always been my passion, and I’m fortunate my parents were so supportive and helped me build a collection at a young age. I would earn albums instead of an “allowance”. Thanks mom and dad 😊🎵

This video echoed a lot of how I feel about records as well, I started buying and selling around 4 or 5 years ago, and your videos have taught me a lot about what to lookout for, as far as obscure records go. I've always been told I'd make a good shop owner because I remember what people I'm friends with, or sell to frequently, are into, and will put stuff aside for them. Currently I do record shows, and have a booth at an antique mall, but the goal is to have a shop one day. Thank you for all you do with this channel, it does make a difference!

I think the story of making ur passion with records and music in general and turning it into a way to make a living is awesome and really what live is all abt. I love ur videos keep it goin bro, I’m a Carolina boy myself maybe 1 day soon I could make it by the shop and check you guys out. 👍👍

I felt that story about opening the shop. Getting my dream job out of university in an independent record shop last year gave me such a sense of purpose, spreading joy to everyone who comes into the shop

Great video, Dylan. Very good and inspiring. I'm from Argentina, and i saw you like Pappo's Blues, you show a record in a video. And, you have the point, you bring joy and culture to the community. Cheers, my friend!

I played a few sports but was never a sports guy. I tried to be. The thing I’ve always loved was drawing and painting while listening to music. Reading about art and music. This video was like hearing from a good friend. Very real talk and comforting. I can tell how much love you have for your family and the connection you make with your customers. God bless you, your family and your path you are on. Thank you again for sharing. I’m going to spin some vinyl now.

Yes It certainly did in my life too! I listened to my parents 78s.....took the bus (to BCs most dangerous skid row now) when I was 9 by myself to buy my 45s at Woodwards dept store for 15 cents each. Still have them!

Love this! I have to say that I really enjoyed meeting you during the Jazz drop. I am a new wave, dark wave, and grunge guy primarily but it was an education. It was a blast meeting Chris of tunes from the man cave too! I am really excited about jazz now and my wife loves that! She enjoys the music more than my other interests. Hahaha! Blessings on your store and your family!
