I raised my kids having leftover hamburger buns or hotdog buns as garlic bread, their entire life. I would schedule my meal plan around the leftover bread that I had froze after having hotdogs or hamburgers. Nothing ever went to waste.

I always enjoy watching your channel. My mother was frugal, so I learned a lot of what you are sharing. But you always have great tips. I absolutely love your vintage sink. I would love to replace mine with something similar. Would fit in perfectly with my 1910 Foursquare.

For quick Buttermilk for recipes, I use 1 tablespoon of vinegar in 1 cup of milk. Let sit for 5 minutes. I do this cuz I don't use a lot of Buttermilk.

Like an occasional pizza when I can afford it, I take it home and portion, freezer bag the slices. Works well with grocery store rotisserie or deli fried chicken. My tiny kitchen is sometimes difficult, challenging to work in. Portion off, freeze off helps. Bones end up frozen, later I make a chicken stock in my crockpot.

Save grease from all meats. Store in frig. It's all very good. I also skim fat from the top of the broth I make. Boil it for a few minutes to remove any liquid. Very good for frying.

I know this is off topic but right now I’m mixing up the pizza dough from red book page 268 and the house smells so so good. I would’ve never thought of putting in spices to the dough. This going to be so good! Thanks tawra and Jill

I keep bother regular & heavy duty nitrile gloves. They’re great for mixing ground meats & cleaning. The thicker heavy duty ones are great for pulling weeds in the garden..

When I prepare my deviled eggs that I will take from home, I wait until I get to my destination before filling the eggs with the yolk mixture. This way you don’t have to worry about the eggs slipping around the container and making a mess

This is probably a weird question but how long is bacon grease good for if you store it in the fridge?
@eatiegourmet10156 ай бұрын
A Lonnnng time. But seriously, if you used bacon grease for all the things you Could use bacon grease for, it's not even an issue, you'd be hard-pressed to have enough on hand! Cooking eggs, potatoes, vegetables, searing any meat, in German potato salad, greasing savory casserole dishes or the pan you cook cornbread in -- even those noodle kits that come in little bags that have you boil 1 1/2 c water, 1/2 milk milk and 1 T Tbsp "margarine" , use bacon fat instead and improve the flavor! Gads, its uses are endless!

Really, people use vinegar to sanitize? Wouldn't be my choice.

Yes it's a huge thing in the organic world. It disinfects but not nearly as well as bleach.

Thanks for the great tips! I buy big boxes of chicken & bag it up to freeze too--my tip is before I start I "cuff"/fold the tops of the freezer bags back & arrange the bags standing up in a box so I can easily put the chicken in them--I find that makes for Iess messy raw chicken juices contamination. And thanks for pointing out that vinegar is popular but doesn't disinfect!

Vinegar is Acetic acid and is a mild but effective antiseptic...it'safe and is a natural cleaner as well. It does wonders on certain stains (clothing and even carpets) when added to Dawn soap.

Looking forward to citrus season. Am planning to purchase more gallon sized canning jars, along with plastic lids [ball brand]. Lemon slices with added vinegar to ferment preferably a few weeks before starting to use. Right now, getting low on supplies. White vinegar and lemon juice have anti virus and anti bacterial properties. Am sometimes occasionally using hydrogen peroxide, but this gets expensive. Household germs can build up a resistance to cleaning products, so an occasional switching up is what I try to do. Liquid bleach for me, over the years ends up spilling, causing issues. Prefer the sunshine on days I can get it, to help disinfect and deodorize my home.

Cultured buttermilk is not real buttermilk. Real buttermilk is the liquid left after you make butter. It's sweet and watery. In no way us it acidic or sour.
