Comment your favorite Monster Cereal/Normie Cereal! For me, it’s a tie between Yummy Mummy and Count Chocula. Maybe CC has a slight edge- because of the nose 😏

So freaking good dude. But I've never seen anything other than freaking good from you. Glad the doctor says things are looking up! Also, what do you do with the water-based clay sculptures? I know you can't fire it with that armature inside.
@SculptureGeek2 ай бұрын
Thanks bro! For this clay particularly, you just let it dry out. It takes a long time to fully dry out even if left untouched but if you wrap it up with plastic, it can keep for weeks especially if you unwrap and spray it down every day or so. Really, you would want to mold it for a few reasons. The surface changes a little bit once it’s fully dry, it can crack unpredictably, it’s extremely brittle once dry, and it’s also super heavy so moving it sucks and pieces tend to break off even when you’re careful because of the brittleness. That said, you can mitigate the cracks by removing the armature which requires some forethought. It’s really best for larger pieces too because it’s very soft. So much fun tho! Definitely a quality material. As far as what I do, either trash, give away, or recycle if I’m quick enough. I don’t really tend to take a lot of time sculpting in wed, for these videos, they’ve all been fast sculpts so, I’m not really attached to any of them. If you have any questions about working with it, hit me up any time! One last thing I will say is it can be messy when your work area dries overnight. You’ll have tons of little bits that turn into dust and no bueno to breathe in!

You do a lot of self-deprecating jabs for being a sculptor, but dude, your skills with clay is a true gift. As a creature designer and sculptor myself, I see your work as a thing of great inspiration. Please don't ever look at what you do as something to to be mocked or thought less of. What you do is important and wonderful.

I really like that "unfinished" look at the bottom! Also, do you keep your sculpts and have them decorating your house or do you sell/give them to others?
@SculptureGeek2 ай бұрын
Thanks! I like that too. I’m so used to having everything perfect from years of commercial sculpting it’s fun to leave things loose. Sometimes I recycle the clay, i’ve given some away, and threw away others. I don’t sell any originals for various reasons but Ive thought about it lol. It would be near impossible to ship these large water based clay sculpts anyway but I have a bunch of oil based ones that would survive.

You name dropped Majin Vegeta so. . . Actually any of the Saiyan characters would probably be more boring to sculpt on account of being 50% crazy hair. But Frieza or Cell or Piccolo could be really cool.

Stellar work. You actually inspired me to start using NSP clay and I one time, I was actually thinking of doing a Boris Karloff Franken Berry but it didn't work out. Also, I am curious why you made the switch to water-based clay. Is it easier to work with or did you just want to switch things up?
@SculptureGeek2 ай бұрын
Oh I always thought a universal monsters crossover would be cool! I use pretty much every material it’s just kind of what I’m feeling up to for a given project- if I just want to do something fast, loose, and big, I use wed clay. If I need more precision and detail, I use Chavant, if I need ultra precision for commercial work or a smaller figure, I use wax or Castilene, if I want to do a one off, in color and not deal with molding, I’ll use sculpey or epoxy. But yeah, it’s also fun to switch things up.

@SculptureGeek2 ай бұрын
Thank you! I LOVED Frankenberry as a kid but had a bad experience with some Hershey’s Strawberry milk syrup so it didn’t ruin anything for me but put FB in a distant third lol. The sculpt was like 10 ish hours if I don’t include the building of the armature or camera work. I would have been done faster but I tried a couple of different looks before committing to one. I actually sculpted him like three times and just scraped off the face before deciding lol -in hindsight, I should have filmed all of that but it wasn’t anything worth showing, just some ultra quick sketching. The edit was a massive headache due to pc problems tho. Many more than 10 hours there lol. Just the stupid export took 6 before I figured that out.
