Marvel has recently shared the first ever screen test of Robert Downey Jr for the role of Tony Stark. As you have already seen just how impressed everyone was by RDJ's first ever screen test but did you know that even RDJ himself was 100% confident that he's gonna get the role for Iron Man? I absolutely love RDJ as Tony Stark - he really did carry the MCU, total backpack; not sure where it's going to go from here - but I could see them finding someone else further down the line to carry on/reboot the legacy of Tony Stark and him doing the character justice, too. I will admit, the death of my favorite Avenger is definitely one of driving reasons I dislike Endgame (and the time travel, and the plot holes, and the plot conveniences, and the girl power moment, and fat Thor, and a hollow Thanos, etc.); it feels like the end of the MCU, to me. Like, I know they have more planned and coming down the gun, but it's not gonna be the same without Iron Man. Hopefully, after a couple years, they'll just "go back in time" and do some anthology movies involving RDJ as Tony; same goes for Chris Evans as Cap. To see the two leaders retire is sad.

He got his groove back. I liked that entire character arc. And yes I would love if both Chris and Robert reprise their roles down the pipe in any capacity. TOTALLY so! I felt so tense I wasn't even breathing wondering how he would portray such a strong emotion... but he did PERFECTLY! I found myself wanting to kinda hug him or something to calm him down lol. It also made me, that I watched the film understanding both temas but agreeing more with Cap's one, kinda resenting Steve for it... It became better at the end, but at least THAT was Steve's mistake, not him. And the acting of RDJ just made all the scene better.

I have to disagree. Being under bright lights, lots of people have a hard time being themselves. Most people don't even like hearing their own voice, let alone seeing themselves on camera. Even UFC fighters, despite training for months to do something entirely different than acting (fighting), have a hard time keeping the mental edge and confidence necessary to perform the way they trained for months. Remembering to be the best version of yourself may be easier than remembering to be someone else, but it's still plenty hard.

Cruise was a candidate when the film rights weren't with Marvel but with New Line many years back. If I recall Favreau said he had Sam Rockwell in mind for the role (who would eventually play Justin Hammer in the sequel). It wasn't until he gave RDJ a screen test where Jon changed his mind completely and fought for him for the starring role since Marvel absolutely did not want Downey Jr due to his... reputation.

Of course, RDJ was perfect, but the casting for most of the major parts was on point. Not only for their ability to embody these famous characters, but also the fact that most of the actors proved themselves to be very accessible to the fans and kids in particular. I'm sure acting ability was priority, but they also seemed to pick actors that were ready for the onslaught of what was to come regarding the popularity of the MCU

I’m a follower of your channel for a while and I’ve never seen this post. BUT...I am old enough to have seen RDJ’s ups and downs in real time back in the 90s. He was born into the Hollywood lifestyle with his dad being a well known and to-do actor/director (as Tony was born into Howard’s legacy), lived the downward spirals and have comeback to claim what he deserves. With or without Robert’s father being successful, or Tony’s father starting SHIELD, they were meant to be here

The most real part of RDJ in Iron Man 2 is when he saw The Natasha Romanov character for the first time and said what every man thought in that moment "I want one". The look in his eyes wasn't acting. Damn!

Besides the fact that RDJ was simply perfect for Tony Stark I'm so happy for him that it helped him personally. He was in such a bad place before and look where he's now. There are tons of actors spiraling downwards after success, for him it really was the other way round.

Right but Tom Selleck was the original choice for IJ but Tom chose to do Magnum PI instead. Fun bit of trivia. 👍

@@db3536 This is also true. Magnum got picked up by CBS right when they were looking to sign him to Indiana Jones. Can you imagine what it would have been like if Magnun DIDN'T happen though? I don't think it would be anywhere near as good. I think Harrison was the perfect choice because he has a more "average guy" vibe about him. And that resonates more with audiences I believe.
