Short attack smooths the transients. Long attack lets the pass and compressing the “body” of the sound. You want an aggressive vocal do a slower attack and if you want to smooth it out a bit start shorting it up. The faster attack will help push the vocal back in the mix. Same thing with drums. Want that punch dont have too fast of an attack. Release is all about the music feel. Make that meter pump with the music if that makes sense. All to taste. Thats also were your clipper would come in for drums ya know get spanky
@50CalBeats2 жыл бұрын
If you make your attack and release short enough you start manipulating the individual wave cycles though, which could give you an arguably more aggressive sound 🤷♂️

If you highlight the midi track hover your mouse over it and press shift as you click it, you can drag it onto an audio clip below it so you don’t have to wait for it to record. Idk if y’all knew that knug but it’s dank af def recommend

I heard somewhere that, attack time is not when it start compressing, it is how much time it takes from when the threshold hit until full compression. I could be wrong tho, it just out of memory
@NimbusAbi2 жыл бұрын
yeah heard something similiar
@JohnDoe-bp5js2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, usually compression is most audibly noticeable at full compression though, so some people just say when it starts compressing. However to trained ears you can hear the compression before it reaches full compression, so you’re technically correct. Important stipulation.

Dudes, super stoked on the information. I have been having a hard time wrapping my head around compression but you guys described it pretty well and I have noticed the difference in my mix. I know I might be jumping my own gun but do you guys know of any good resources for how to do side chaining? I know what it is, but I don't really know how I can properly set it up. Happy New Year, keep kicking ass!

I'm one o' dem bois that needed this as someone that knows fuckall about compression cause in all the videos I've seen about it everyone uses it differently and have their own opinion, leaving me confused about how to actually use it. Haven't been on this channel in a very long time and I'm glad for that cause now I can binge watch your tutorials heheheee. Edit: Also, what do you guys think about StandardCLIP by SIR Audio Tools?

Currently each of my drums/perc are all in individual audio tracks. Should they all be in one? Should I put them into one and then compress? Should I leave kick and snare out of that and compress them individually?
