i recently watched someone break down WHY Johnny beat the devil in Devil Went Down to Georgia. First of all, as pointed out, the devil cheated by summoning a whole band to play backup, but also, even if you ignore that and simply compare the devil's fiddle part to johnny's Johnny's fiddle part was *immensely* more impressive from a technical standpoint and references many classic fiddle songs.
