But as for Joost, this song is an ode tot his parents and a letter to his father. His father passed away when Joost was 12, and his mom passed away when he was 13. The lyrics are in fact pretty serious, a serious message wrapped in happy music, until the end, when he gets serious. I love his song and message, I haven't felt this much connected to a Eurovision song as I have with this one. He stole my heart with it, and I really hope the European viewers will understand the song and also love it like I do.

That's the meaning of the fire. Joost shares his fathers wisdom: people invented borders/ boundaries, so you can invent your own world. Father worked as a volunteer with refugees when he was alive. So the song tells us about the pain of grieving but also contains a hopeful message of Europe being a place of freedom and diversity. We are all human beings. Let's come together.
