Germany is in fact in Europe, next to the Netherlands lol. Try history books, you'll see why we in Europe will never forget that. But as for Joost, this song is an ode tot his parents and a letter to his father. His father passed away when Joost was 12, and his mom passed away when he was 13. The lyrics are in fact pretty serious, a serious message wrapped in happy music, until the end, when he gets serious. I love his song and message, I haven't felt this much connected to a Eurovision song as I have with this one. He stole my heart with it, and I really hope the European viewers will understand the song and also love it like I do.

It doesn't matter where Joost travels or what he's eating, there will always be the pain of missing his parents. Nobody could help him, not even when he paid them. Children should be happy, enjoy their lives, right? What if you're not happy as a kid? What if you have PTSD and you have to wait 2 years to get mental health? Joost's father died when he was 12 and he found his mother 8 months later on the couch. She passed because of a cardiac arrest. With this song he is taking the step to move on with his life. That's the meaning of the fire. Joost shares his fathers wisdom: people invented borders/ boundaries, so you can invent your own world. Father worked as a volunteer with refugees when he was alive. So the song tells us about the pain of grieving but also contains a hopeful message of Europe being a place of freedom and diversity. We are all human beings. Let's come together. Thank you for your reaction! Greetings from Westland, The Netherlands ❤

If you want to hear more 90s gabber/eurodance Dutch music (=from the Netherlands) on which this song was inspired: check out DJ Paul Elstak (he's actually in the video, in the car during the drop, he co-produced), of course 2Unlimited with Get ready for this/Twilight Zone/many more (you'll be saying: whaaaat?? Is this Duuuutch?) . Others from that era: 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor, Twenty4 Seven, T-Spoon, Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo, Party Animals, and the list goes on. Also some German artists who had big hits (Scooter, Marusha). I grew up with this music and still listen and dance to it......and I'm almost 50 🙂. And yes, this song by Joost (pronounced "Yoast") is an absolute banger!!! Can't wait for his performance tomorrow. Oh and by the way....there are loooads of great dance festivals in the Netherlands. a bit of background on Gabber music: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zp3HZ2eFp7mIeJo&ab_channel=MindprinterOfficial (all genres) kzbin.info/www/bejne/envLhK2YbL-qa5Y&ab_channel=VICENederland

Im dutch, the music you heard at the end is called “Hardstyle” the dancing style is called “hakken”, it roughly translates to “heeling” because you kinda stomp the ground with your heels. The outfits and the people would call themselves “gabbers” or buddy’s in english. Next to that there is also a big EDM and Techno community, a shared love with our german brothers and sisters

(please pin this) So the story in the outro is he lost his parents when he was young and his dad always told him that the world has no borders but that it’s only in ones head. He uses the idea of traveling around europe that he is trying to escape from the pain of the dead of his parents. But you will always carry that with you even though you go to different countries. In the end he dedicates the song to his father. And with that says goodbye to his grieving of losing both his parents. Putting an end to his sadness. In europapa the papa also means dad in dutch. I think others can explain it better but hope this helps! But don’t worry he is pro Europe. It’s an ode to Europe and his dad.
