is amazing
TypicaL 40k watt waste oil burners use about 4 liters of waste per
hour I have built units that use up to 2 gallons per hour or about
145,000 watts I use oil burners for many things mostly for burning
tree stumps out of the ground, waste oil burners work great for
forges or smelting metal. Ive built many types of waste oil burners
from syphon nozzle waste oil burners to drip feed to vaporizer
coil waste oil burners . these also can be used to build a furnace
and heat very large areas . the most efficiant waste oil burner
i have biult is a siphon nozzle
atomizer and it uses about 4 liters of waste oil per hour .
do not burn transmission oil it is toxic .Oil Burner Designs
Drip Style
Low Tech. No atomization.
Natural Draft possible (no electricity)
Mother Earth News’ design is widely used. Designed in 1970’s.
Today’s motor oil has additives that resist degradation and allow engines to run
at higher temperatures. In effect, waste oils are now much harder to burn cleanly
and likely require preheating and atomization.
Conventional fuel oil burners
Modest efficiency improvements over time - although overall burner design hasn’t
changed much
As homeowners upgrade to modern heat pumps, these old style burners are
ubiquitous in scrapyards and can be purchased for very little cost.
Most can be operated without modification with up to 20% biodiesel. (B20)
Predictable issues with higher ratios of biofuels - ‘gelling’ and damage to rubber
seals. Commercial biofuel safe pumps and preheaters available.
Very convenient, tight design.
Siphon Nozzle
Requires high capacity air compressors
LP can be used in lieu of air
Fuel pumps not required
Preheating for reliable viscosity
“Constant level device” to maintain consistent fuel flow
Simple DIY nozzles can be made from off the shelf hardware
Manufactured nozzles available for retrofitting gun style burners for Waste Oils
Babington Style
Fuel flows OVER nozzle, rather than through nozzle
Imagine fine mist from a whale’s blowhole
Filtration matches your pump - not your nozzle
Requires sump and pump
Same preheating issues with alternative fuels

I and my class has already commented on your work excellence. Today we thank you for removing the back ground music. The sound of a tuned burner itself is Music.

The other guys make a lot of smoke as a bi product and they never seem nearly as efficient as yours. 👍💯 Thanks this is awesome and scientific, very interesting. I might try to preheat my motor oil and run it through a carburetor 🤷

Seems like you could get the cheapest paint sprayer gun and tune it larger orifice polish needle etc to make a high-end sprayer for about 15 bucks and change. You'd get micro-adjustable air-fuel mixes. Basically an atomizer. Just may do this with an air brush!

This is very cool! I am following your videos to upgrade my foundry furnace burner. I need something more efficient than what I have and I think this is the thing!

I would be glad to help you friend , i could even send you a decent nozzle that uses an air compressor function. If you would like some advice let me know , i really enjoy your work and a guy like you will actually do something with the wisdom i can provide you . i can save you alot of time . If you would like i can do a quick video showing you what i think will work best for you and give you some figures such as power output and oil consumption as well as the air pressure and cfm you need

If your interested i could send you a link to my nozzle video showing my best design yet . i dont expect you to sift threw 60+ videos . I take the time to help people who are serious about this information with intentions of actually using it . Im also currently working with 2 guys in new Zealand who are building a wood drying kiln for fire wood made of 2 large shipping containers. they sell fire wood on an industrial scale , their yard is very impressive

All of this sounds great! I would appreciate it, especially if you made a video! I will look up the little dragon video right now. I just started experimenting yesterday. I was able to make a nozzle out of black pipe and I got a good mist going using water, but I can tell that experimenting to get everything working just right would take awhile. Right now I need to use a lot of pressure to get the mist going (like 50 psi) and I am wondering if the orifice is too large. But on the other hand, I don't want to make it too small because I feel as though it would clog since I am using waste oil.

ok watch this video and ill get back to you . also you are gonna want 100 psi air @ 3.5 SCFM or more , you can use a blower but i recommend air compressor. they give the hottest flame . kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmTbmXWXYqidqqs this is the nozzle used in these devices kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWnMoKR_r7R8j9E kzbin.info?o=U&video_id=roGcZBLZqCw

Can you get your hands on a thermocouple to put into the flame and get readings of your precise flame temps?

defiantly have , i got my eye on a device that logs input on a time graph with a usb connection ,this will come in handy for many future experiments so im gonna get a multi senor unit as soon as i have extra cash .

I've always wondered if you would flip that device 180 degrees vertically, then you would have the flame going upwards through the elbow, lessening the pulsjet effect possibly.

180 deg "vertically"? it is horizontal, so 180 deg would just make it either upside down, or face backwards - depending which 180 you took...... wouldn't it?

Seems to me that a spray paint gun would do the job. I know that waste oil burners can be a real pain in the butt, but most of the problems encountered are because of inconsistency of the fluid being burned. I'm going to try a paint sprayer with well filtered oil and see what happens. It should be doable given how much adjustment is possible with a spray gun.

Just had a thought, i wonder what would happen if you put a 1-2 inch cowling either around the or in front of the oil jet?
@NOBOX7

yes i considered that idea for a straight pipe and according to the diagrams ive seen that stabilizes the flame by causing re-circulation

The way this burner is running i would say at least 30min at most . If the furnace and lid is well insulated.

I guess if the objective is to make the tube red hot or show off the orange flame to make it look like a rocket this is a success. Seems to me there should be some blue in that flame if it is burning efficiently.

not with waste motor oil , you cant get blue flame with motor oil only WVO
