2018's Game Award was by far the best. Geoff Keighley has done such an incredible job with its inception and making it better year after year. Most important thing of all is, unlike other events like E3 which segregates gamers into different platforms, The Game Awards is where every gamer from every gaming platform can unite and celebrate the thing they love...video games, together under one roof. Its also about recognizing the developers, the people behind these great video games and showing them appreciation for all their hard work.

@@Smokez360 In the beginning years, yes. But you have to realize Geoff arranges and funds most of the award show with his own money. And that's not cheap. I couldn’t agree more with his reasoning. It’s very hard to bring games into the mainstream media and explain their impact and importance to others. Having this show really brings out the art form of the video game. It’s not often enough looked at as an art but movies and music are. Of course it is an art and this show really highlights that and unlike the more recent oscars feels like they truly nominate and award the best representations of this amazing medium of entertainment. It’s an industry I hope to one day be a part of and can’t wait to see it evolve. Thank you no clip and Geoff for helping show the heart that goes into these great games

I love the sentiment behind the game awards but for me personally, I feel like it has become less of a celebration of games and the people who make them and more of a platform to market and promote. I get that this is necessary in order for them to operate but there has to be a better way.

It wouldn't have been quite so bad if they didn't pad it out by repeating the same commercials multiple times. And maybe not speed through a whole bunch of awards in checklist form with little ceremony.

It's far better now than when it was Spike TV. It was literally a 1-2 hour commercial for doritos, mountain dew, etc with occasional game stuff thrown in. I agree though, every award should get its time to shine. Perhaps splitting it into multiple shows over a few days would work better.

Like, jokes at Geoff's expense aside, he always puts in the work for what he wants to do. Any talk of The Game Awards seeming cringey comes from a place of closed vulnerability. If you’re strong enough to be open to basic concepts of love and appreciation, general empathy, then the Game Awards come off as a high production value love letter. Not everyone is meant to be on a stage, but sometimes those people really deserve the attention so it’s good to see them up there, getting any award, getting the applause, getting the recognition for what they did. Saying it’s cringe worthy in any way just comes off as you having an inability to deal with your own emotions or empathize with these people and where they’re coming from and what they’re doing.
