I keep telling people. There IS NO METAL GEAR SOLID 5. IT DOES NOT EXIST. The game is called Metal Gear Solid V. The V stands for VENOM SNAKE, which is whom you play as through the game. The game literally beats you on the head with this in Phantom Pain during the first 10 minutes of the game. Hence the code "V has come to". God, why can't people figure that out?

One suggestion on how a phone can compete with console. For example, cloud gaming like Stadia: If there are enough server around the world or faster internet, suddenly people can play AAA game on phone no matter how small they are as long as they can stream such game from the server. But to be honest, I don't like those milking mobile game as well. They are like what music industry has become nowadays, less on quality, more on repetition and money making scheme. I have been playing one of those mobile game thing just to realized that I can still get far more better hours worth of playing per dollar by spending for good games on steam. While playing mobile game, I always feel like it's such a big time sink and money sink grinding and climbing the ladder. Totally not worth my time and money. But after all, we have what we pay for. So choose wisely what game you will spend. Because if you keep supporting game that care more about your purse than your admiration, they will thrive. Then the next generation, you will realize that honorable game developers die out.

Such a sad story. I have been a fan of MGS for 20 years. Konami used to be my favorite game publisher. MGS, Castlevania SOTN and all the NES classics. If I remember correctly, Konami did say they wanted to be the Asian equivalent of EA (around 2003, when EA was the most successful game publisher in the world). The irony is they achieved this by receiving a billion middle fingers.

It's a sad story, and I'm googling why Kojima left Konami only now. Kojima almost foresaw that he would be kicked out of Konami, and that's why he added the UV Light gun in MGSV: GZ. All Metal Gear games with his name on it where erased by the UV light, but games without his name remained, like Metal Gear Rising or Metal Gear Ac!d or Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Kaz even mentions after erasing a few markings that were a Kojima game: "You might be able to erase all the markings... but the memories will never disappear." Meaning that from Kojima's perspective, you can erase my name from the games I made, but people will always remember who I am and my legacy. Also he planned to put the Konami logo on the prison camps in GZ. Says a lot, agreed?

Are you out of your fucking mind? Konami killed the Metal Gear series by having Kojima quit the company. MGSV TPP was left on a cliffhanger, there was alot of unfinished stuff that would've led the story in a really interesting place which would've added more elements and links to the overall Metal Gear lore. Konami are a bunch of piece of shit and greedy fucks for having force stopped one of the most epic series in video game history. That definetely was far from being a step in the right direction.

Well, it cost 80 Million to make but only turn up around 53 Million dollars and you have to wait 7 years for it. 7 years for a 30 million loss. Its a good game but as a business, it's just a bad investment too risky. Why invest in a high-risk high reward if there's a low-risk high reward like mobile games which to add they didn't need to wait 7 years to make profit. I mean I understand why they did it from a business standpoint.

Amidst all the disappointment and revulsion by Konami's actions, what stands out to me is the loss of the Fox Engine. Kojima seemed really enthusiastic about it, like it was a big step forward in aiding game development. The flagship Fox Engine game, MGSV, runs at a near flawless 60fps on consoles, looks great, and is rendering an open-world. There's so much work and potential Konami killed, because they'd rather abandon video games for pachinko.

Revenue is not defined by marketing decisions but by the quality of a product. Kojima always delivered exactly that. He knew what gamers wanted and created a franchise that no one could copy at the same quality. He always implemented more than just gameplay but a meaning to his games, a message that might be weird at first, but extremely entertaining and a revulotionary new approach to problem solving and funny gimmicks to try out.

But now knowing that the series would be absolutely finnished with just ONE more game it's heartbreaking. I hope he can strike some sort of deal with Konami or even buy the rights to the franchise.

Konami is really near-sighted. They said they want to focused to mobile gaming and mobile gaming is a future, but what they want was simply an instant ROI with trashy mobile game that littered by MTX. The thing is mobile market is over-saturated with many free-to-play games. They're going to have a hard time to compete with many developers in mobile market because of the late start. The sad thing is Konami end up creating a slot machine plastered with Snake Eater and Silent Hill title on it few years after Kojima leaving the company.

Death Stranding was a good game. The problem is you’re one of those people who were expecting “Metal Gear: Norman Reedus” and it was never going to be that. Don’t think that just because you didn’t like it, that makes it a bad game. Even if “Most People” don’t like a game, still doesn’t mean it’s a bad game. I personally don’t particularly like to play Mario games but I know that they’re great games, the best to some people. So I think you’re either close minded asf, or you have little to no attention span like pointed out earlier. Btw I prefer games like SoulsBorne games, action games, and survival horror. I play COD, DmC, Doom, etc. I even play all the EA games sometimes. I play a lot of games. I can tell a good game when I see one even if I don’t enjoy it and I also can tell when a developer puts a considerable amount of effort into a game. I also think that most gamers can do these things but for some reason you cannot?

No its probably just that "the suits" at Konami don't actually know anything about game development, so they didn't think to have that removed from the game, cuz they probably didn't even know it was there, til it was too late, and copies were already being shipped. 😆 Like with most industries, the assholes who run these companies don't ACTUALLY know how to do the work to make the products being sold. They're just the bigwigs in suits counting the money & that's it. That's their function.

@@rukawa23gold "Easing out Hideo Influence" what rubbish. That was not good business, nor even business. That was plain scorched earth. You've already restructured the company. You've already demoted all of those at Kojima Productions and most on the console side of things to mere contractors or the lowest level of employees, including Kojima himself. You've already put mobile gaming to the top not only within your gaming division, but to the top of their priorities, including promoting many within that side of the gaming division and installing them in key and high level positions. It was unnecessary to remove all mentions of Hideo Kojima's name, including the name and logo of the studio responsible for creating the damn game. It was done purely out of petty spite and personal animosity on the part of Hideki Hayakawa, and several other key figures (possibly some of the Konami family on the board). It is also not necessary to turn the offices into a gulag, including locking Kojima in a room and doing the same with other key figures, monitoring all communications and emails, restricting communications, barring communication with Kojima and other individuals, blacklisting (from the industry) former employees who leave Konami's festering rotting corpse for guarunteed greener pastures. It goes on and on. None of these are understandable, justifiable, or even business. It's not really unusual for that kind of scummy behaviour within Japanese companies either, though Konami took it to new depths.

I think its important for someone to play devil's advocate so here goes: There may have been signs that Kojima was becoming a bit of a spendthrift. 80 million dollars sounds like alot for a game... and much of it was spent on things no game needs, like celebrity actors Norman Reedus and Kiefer Sutherland who Kojima used to replace fan favorite David Hayter, which on the surface ironically appears like his own lack of commitment to loyalty for the sake of the "big time". The collaboration with Guillermo DelToro was however an exciting one i must admit. It is again, ironic, that many people continue to regard MGS1 as his greatest creation and MGS5 as the worst of his series. Excess and freedom might not always lead to the best creative result. It seems that when Kojima is stifled by a restrictive budget and lesser technology, his huge ambitions work to stretch their limits and make something amazing-- When limited he is forced to exercise and maximize his creative energy. Gameplay as the main focus of entertainment also had to be upheld when he was in those conditions. It is arguable that when he is more free to create his vision, the focus of his games become cinematics and photorealism over gameplay for better or worse.

I think Konami was struggling financially and the cost of keeping Kojima and his studio was straining them financially to the point of almost bankruptcy. That's why he had to go. That being said, they should have respected him and his legacy as his legendary statuts demanded. He earned every bit of it. They could have supported his last game and gave him a king's farewell. And induct him in hall of fame ki d of thing. That way they would motivate their staff to be the same lest one day they achieve the same status. But they went and did all that crap.

I know you posted this 2years ago, but I hate to say you're mistaken my guy. Konami was never struggling financially, plenty of people took a look at their standing as a company and they were/are sitting pretty. The truth is that Konami isn't reliant on their gaming studio at all. They started as a gambling machine producer and make the bulk of their multi billion dollar industry from casinos and pachinko parlors. It's specifically because of this that they ousted Kojima. They used gaming as a supplemental means of further profit, and it is VASTLY more profitable to make cheaply and quickly produced games that use a free to play model and rake in the money via micro transactions, than it is to produce expensive AAA games that large teams years to develop, and generally don't net much profit beyond recouping the cost of development and funding the next project. From a business prospective, there was just no real incentive for the higher ups in the company to care about Kojima, his vision, or his fans.

And of course, everyone will have their fair share of personal opinion. When it is said that no one knows what happens behind closed doors, it is because reading what others say is never the same as being there to see it with your own eyes, therefore, you will always have the opinion of "another" and never the objective truth. You won't have that not even with all the effort in the world. Sorry to tell you, but at the end, everything will be no more than pure speculation and personal opinions based on the blind love towards a celebrity. Like this case.
@VicViper1984

@@lunaazul1569 again, that is actually just untrue if you actually know how to vet sources. Konami wasn't exactly tight lipped regarding the reasons for their decision and it's not exactly hard to take a look at a company's earnings/spending to see where they're prioritizing their efforts and making their most profit. I know you're probably not going to listen to or believe me, but I was literally the head of the world's largest MGS fan basis at the time they split. Not only were we recognized by Konami EU's PR team as an official news source for the franchise, we also had contact with various people on the inside and everything corroborates the story that new management really just didn't hold any reverence for their AAA gaming IPs, and made the decision to have the company step away from AAA game development and focus instead on Mobile gaming. It's important to remind people that Konami isn't primarily a game development studio. As a company they were a multi billion dollar company before ever getting into game development and they would continue to be if they never made a video game again because their primary source of profit is gambling machines. This is precisely why the new head of the company saw AAA development as an unwise business venture, canceled future projects that were in the works, and cut further funding from MGSV. In his eyes it was just good business. Kojima was ousted because him being the autour he is, wasn't willing to just shut up and take that kind of executive decision to cut funding to his project and push it out ASAP to recoup the money already spent on it sitting down. Tensions ensued and Kojima was fired because his name meant very little to the fat cat that saw the entire game development branch to be unnecessary to begin with.

Some of the stuff I read about Konami, is that the work environment there had always been horrible. That from the day you started, lots of hurdles were put in front of you just to do the job that they hired you for. I think there also is a strong mentality that every employee is replaceable. That they could have just taken a few random developers and they still would have gotten a Metal Gear game just as good as Kojima produced that you don't need at least some talent, that you don't need a vision or a story to tell. That mentality was probably a large part of the reasoning behind some of the actions. They tried to disconnect Kojima from Metal Gear, so that they could continue milking it even after Kojima has left.

I've got mixed feelings on this. On one hand: Hideo Kojima had some of this coming. Why do I say that? 1. Hideo treated the English cast of MGS1 as "disposable". First of all, in every game, David Hayter stated he had to re-audition for the role of Snake/Big Boss. this includes MGS2, MGS3, MGS4, MGS Twin Snakes, MGS PO, MGS PW. Considering how loyal and supportive David always was to these games and how iconic his voice became for Snake, I felt Hideo Kojima shouldn't have constantly been trying to get rid of him. Kojima ensured the same Japanese voice actor (Akio Otsuka) as Solid Snake, Venom Snake and Big Boss for all the MGS games that needed a voice actor. But I guess Hideo was just "screw David Hayter" for whatever reason. David Hayter stated in interviews he never really spoke to him or interacted with him much. 2. In MGS Twin Snakes, Kojima wanted to remove all of the original English cast members and replace them with completely different voice actors. This includes Cam Clarke (Liquid Snake), Debi Mae West (Meryl Silverburgh), Jennifer Hale (Naomi Hunter), Christopher Randolph (Hal "Otacon" Emmerich), Paul Eiding (Roy Campbell), Kim Mai Guest (Mei Ling), Patric Zimmerman (Revolver Ocelot) Peter Lurie (Vulcan Raven) Doug Stone (Psycho Mantis) Tasia Valenza (Sniper Wolf). David Hayter had to persuade Konami personally to bring back the original cast, supposedly going as far as to accept HALF of his original payment to convince them to hire the originals from MGS1 instead of completely new voices for everyone. Those two facts ALONE show something of an attitude about Hideo Kojima I don't appreciate. I get it, it's his game but I felt he could have shown a DEGREE of appreciate and respect for the people that jumped on ship and agreed to do voice acting for arguably the most important of the series, back when voice acting wasn't taking seriously, pay wasn't great and it was in some small little booth. Kojima. Bonus point: Robin Atkin Downes stated in Metal Gear Solid (MGS) Reunion Panel 2021 - Geektainment CONline (it's on KZbin, about 54 to 55 minutes in) that after reading a portion of Kazuhira Miller talking about his father's suicide, it got to Robin and he got emotional and he had to stop for a bit. And when Robin met Hideo Kojima, he explained the moment where the story got him emotional about the character and he expected Hideo might actually talk about it or share something emotional...instead, Hideo just scowled at him and made a "World's Smallest Violin" finger gesture to him dismissively and didn't say anything else. So, at least to the English cast, I kinda feel Kojima is a prick. At least, that's the general impression I get from this. And David never said a single bad thing directly about Hideo. Or indirectly, that I know of. So, he had some betrayal coming. Kinda feel like he had part of this coming, being treated as "disposable" after all that he did. On the other hand... ...There's a limit. Whatever his problems or attitude issues, Hideo Kojima is one of, if not arguably THE, most influential parts of the entire Metal Gear series. His brilliance, ideas, unique stategies for gameplay, depth of character development, amazing story...just utterly amazing talent and ability... is undeniably, at MINIMUM, the foundation of Metal Gear. He's truly something else. "Legend", "Icon", "Master", these words get tossed around alot....Hideo Kojima is a TITAN in the video games industry. Denying Hideo the right to receive awards for HIS GAME, firing him outright instead of trying to just give him a demotion or a lesser level, removing his name and logo and so forth from all Metal Gear (and all Konami) products...I mean, that's just disgusting. That's worse than anything Hideo Kojima has ever done, that I know of. Love him or hate him, Hideo Kojima is possibly one of the most important people behind MGS. While I'm not like some fans in that I don't possess the attitude of "If Kojima didn't do it, it sucks whether I played it or not" (I actually liked MGS PO), Hideo seriously brings something special and incredible with every game he touches. They really did Kojima wrong and I feel Konami deserves the scorn they've earned from fans and customers. END RESULT: I really wish Konami would suck it up, admit they NEED Kojima and make peace with him and authorize him to work on Metal Gear series products again. I also want Hideo Kojima to pay some RESPECT to David Hayter and his following, as well as to all the English voice actors that gave their best to their roles, whether he personally preferred them or liked them or not. It's not like Hideo won over everyone he ever met, but people still give him great respect for all he's done.

The No. 1 priority of corporations is to make money for their shareholders. Shareholders are frankly leeches who don't give a fuck about anything else and always think in the (relative) short-term. They put CEOs in charge who they think will help them make as much money, and fast. There are decades worth of examples of companies (in every industry) that were once highly respectable, created quality products, treated their workers really well, etc and were successful.. which then went "public".. and then fell to utter shit. That's why it kind of annoys me when people say stuff like "Rockstar only care about money! That's why they're still milking GTA VO to death 10 years later!" .. nope. Not to defend about Konami, but what they said is partly true. There seems to be a rise in mobile gaming these few years and mobile gaming is definitely the most profitable and least risk taking way to earn money. Unfortunately the reality is that probability of people who owns a phone are much higher than those who owns a gaming console/ PC, and it's easier for people to throw in little by little money over a long time rather than straight purchasing an expensive AAA game.

Not playing the devil's advocate here, but looking from different perspectives: 1. For us, the gamers, the decision Konami made to kick Kojima out and focus on mobile games is a very shit decision, because Konami basically "sold out" by sacrificing artistic vision for revenue. 2. For Konami, kicking Kojima out and focusing on smaller scale games with microtransactions are important to keep the company from falling apart, as they are trying to cater to a bigger audience, not just the gamers who are already fans. What I'm trying to say is, whatever happens, happens. After all, what can we do? We can only support their decisions and not blame anyone. It's all business. Might sound cruel, but it is what it is.
