I love it so much when Devs actually care about their game. He is. Hugo is one of the very best in the gaming industry at what he does. Because to him it's all about having FUN. And his references to Robocop is precisely WHY DOOM and DOOM Eternal just WORKS. The Original DOOM was also based things the devs had FUN with: Games -- D&D in particular --, films such as Aliens, Darkness of Evil; Thrash Metal Music, etc. Pizza and soda, and lods of FUN hammering away on the keyboard, blowing up hords of demons.

It's hilarious to me how John Romero is so well-known for his playful 'trash talk', and id Software popularized the idea of a video game itself trash talking you (mocking and taunting you when you want to quit the game), yet everyone was furious about that Daikatana ad. How people took that seriously and got offended/put off by that, knowing full-well that Romero is a notorious playful trash talker, is just ridiculous. People are always so desperate to be angry about something. It's so weird.

After the disappointment that was RAGE, I had kind of written id Software off, and even more so after hearing about all the old-school members leaving. When the rumblings about the new DOOM were happening online, I rolled my eyes and assumed the worst. Not only has the game completely proven me wrong, but these interviews have given a lot of insight into a team that shows it still has that essence. Once again, I'm actually looking forward to new stuff from id Software, like how I used to when I was 13. Hugo is absolutely right - you can really see and feel the passion put into this game.

watching this made me realize even though i'm a massive doom fan, ever since doom 1 getting in trouble with my mom because my uncle brought over the shareware version and i was too young to play back in 95, it's not the gameplay or story that made this game for me (although it's all incredible). it's the atmosphere of the levels, every single level just brought me back to that original doom feeling. they really hit it out of the park with this game

Honesty in a work environment can be very helpful for getting the end-product right as you want it. They admit to REALLY liking the Doom on Earth idea but they were all very honest with each other admitting that no matter how good it may have been, it didn't have the "spirit" of DOOM. Thus, years later we have DOOM 2016 and it fucking blows everything else out of the competition.

I fucking loved the intro in this game. The grab a gun and shoot some zombies the moment you get to play. Smashing the voice message device to make it shut up. And then getting killed in the first arena (because I suck and expect modern games to be dead-easy in the first hour or 2) perfectly set the tone for everything that came after it. And everything flowed organically without shoving boring-ass tutorials into your face to explain how to move or switch guns. You get to play and experience, and learn along the way. That's exactly how a game should be.

Nicholas Schrock that's a massive leap of logic you're making there, they didn't say that. The difficulty is there but it's not mystical or fully unique or so hard you need to be pro mlg just to beat it. That's just the player reports/reviews hyped and distorted.
@samr75428 жыл бұрын
Guys, for fuck's sake, semantics. Put your giant e-peens away for a second. Dark Souls is generally more difficult and impenetrable than most games, what with not giving the player many directions, not hand-holding like most AAA modern games, etc. That's unique in the modern big budget game landscape (add to that its unique multiplayer component and its huge unexpected success in the West). But regardless of its difficulty, you don't think Dark Souls is simply interesting enough in its own right to want a good doc about it? Gimme a break.

Dude is a perfect fit for Doom and id Software. The way he talks about it, his ideas. He's a guy who grew up while the old guard was in control and got all the good stuff from them.

I don't know how many times I've rewatched the entire Noclip Doom series. Never gets old.

Same, I feel so alike these people. We are a product of the same type of pop-culture and I am 100% entertained by the same things they are. They metal music, the movies, the don't-take-it-too-seriously attitude. Love it.

Great guy. Absolutely earning his spot as creative director. Much respect to him and his team for making what will possibly be one of the most powerful games of 2020.

I love how he begins the interview a bit somewhat standoff-ish or skeptical, but really starts opening up and enjoying it as it goes further on :)

dam i wish you asked about the argent tower level, that shit felt like 2 levels! first the beginning and bridge, then the goddamn tower with multiple floors. That level was massive!

ItsAllGoodGames That level ruins all my Ultra Nightmare runs and in my normal Nightmare runs. Fucking hate thr argent tower multi level bullshit deaths. Its an incredibly well designed level, and it's beautiful, and that's great, but I can't help but scream at my monitor like a revenant through the whole thing.
