Thanks for the video, always nice to watch a LuxWad video! 😀😀 The M44 Meteor It's my choice for this winter, the dark seasons here far north (live In Sweden). I choose 519A 5700K DD which gives a much warmer rosy light that the kelvin rating may suggest in the dedome version, which I knew from before from my D4SV2 light. For the other channel I choose the Osram W1 6000K which I think is needed for this light to get a bit of throw as it doesn't really get that super bright. It needs a really throwy LEDs on one channel if you want a versatile flashlight with some reach. The runtime is great, but I do keep a spare set of 18650s with me if plan to out for an entire evening. Love the firmware tweak in the latest firmware (I flashed it as I noticed it had quite old firmware on it as I received it) that the light ramps up and fades out, sorta simulating a traditional filament lamp bulb, making it less "digital" in feel. Makes it feel very elegant IMO. 😀👍

I just cant see why we all havent migrated away from 18650 cells for use in other then really small lights. The 21700 cells just has so much more to offer with little to no noticable gain in size. I would buy a simmliar floodlight if there was 3-4 21700 cells

I agree. Though I think the idea with this one was to reuse the existing D18 host instead of designing a new one. It definitely is very small, to be fair this does fill a pretty specific niche size-wise.

Great video, as always! Man, the new 42800/ 42950 cell wouls give it like 3 times the runtime, without making the light significantly bigger... I hope i'll become the new standard for bigger lights, (instead of 4x18650/ 3x21700)

42mm cells would be very interesting, if they become common it would be great to see a light like this with those cells. I have a couple lights using 46950 cells and it's an awesome format (much bigger than this light though)

I got the exact same configuration, same color as well! I bought it with both channels domed, and after testing, I dedomed the 2700K myself. I appreciate this channel more dedomed with that much lower CCT, beautiful beam! I'm not dedoming the 5700K though, as I use it often to take photos when I need extra lighting, it is very helpful for that. I never combine channels on this one, it just doesn't look nice, just one or the other.

I could definitely see the low-CCT 519a being dimmer than some of the other emitter options. Maybe having one channel with big lumen sst-20 and the other for tint snob high-CRI 519a is the way to go here?

If I were buying again I might try that out, it could be a cool combo. That or W2 for one high-power channel and 519a or 219b for nice color

I keep considering a light like this I love Hank lights, love anduril, love the aux lights, buuuuutt yes I would like this to be brighter too. I’m undecided between this with full w2, or an Astrolux ec06 / sofirn q8 plus.

Honestly if practicality matters at all, I would go for the Sofirn or the Astrolux. If it's mainly a toy, this is more interesting. And it's on sale right now which is nice

Always a pleasure to watch these reviews for the quality of the editing. About the light- I have been eyeing this light for a while now since its release as it seemed like the only desirable Hanklight to me which looked good and can be used as a proper tool. But everytime I think of getting one, I'm reminded of a similarly priced light called a 3x21b from Convoy with its great driver, efficiency, output and throw. No to mention, long runtimes with 3x21700. Decisions, decisions and decisions! Anything you can say to help me make a decision LuxWad?

I think Convoys are great and more practical, this light still falls in the realm of 'fun' imo. I think that if you already have a useful light that fills a role you were considering the convoy for, then get the Noctigon

Oh man, ...I was thinking about getting in on this one for 2-4 hour night hikes. Maybe all dedomed 519a 5700K & 2700K and use the tint ramping for fun and variety during the hike with that 519a goodness. But you are making me doubt....

The 2700k DD have like half the output of the 5700k domed, lower max output is to be expected compared to some other reviewers

I was under the impression it only dropped the output like ~20%. I am not very familiar with dedomed 519a though, I prefer the stock domed version

@@LuxWad dedoming drops output by 15-20%, and you get around 20-25% difference between 2700k and 5700k. So not half, but close to it

The M43 was revolutionary at the time, but its successors (D18 + M44) are fairly unimpressive compared to other items in their class. I only use mine for firmware maintenance purposes, not for actually seeing stuff in the dark. But I'm not really into soda-can lights in general, and I don't like the optic used in the DT8 and M44. I should probably at least swap the optics.

It would be kinda cool to use wider/frosted optics on one channel to accentuate the flood/throw abilities... but I'll probably end up selling mine

@@LuxWadCarclo usually has three of each optic -- "top spot", "narrow spot", and "frosted medium spot". I like their narrow spot optics quite a bit, and don't like the top spot. The DT8 and M44 use top spot.

@@thierryrainville9847 Hank originally announced it as a buck driver, which makes more sense with a 3S cell configuration which was supposedly the setup.
