I finally cleaned up the K9.3 firmware today, so it can do tint toggle, tint ramp, and other stuff, all in one build... instead of two separate builds. I don't actually have a K9.3 or DM1.12 though, so I'm not totally sure everything is calibrated right... like the ramp shape. Still trying to work out where to put the transition point between linear and DD FET on this and the other dual-linear-plus-FET build. For now, I set it at 110/150 on K9.3 and 130/150 on the generic build, but I'm not sure if that's how it should be. It really depends on the power ratio between the regulated and direct-drive channels.

Most excellent review and you hit the nail right on the head. I would love to see a host that could perform both throw and flood exceptionally. As tech evolves perhaps one day we will see that. But more importantly, for the time being, I really want a thrower that does not build up so much heat that you only get 3 - 5 seconds of true peak performance. Enter the LEP flashlights, lets see where that takes us. I very much appreciate your excellent comprehensive reviews.

Got mine in recently: -overall a solid flooder, meh thrower for the size, but versatile - actually, 219b would be the better choice means less current per led, and efficiency between emitters converges. - went with sft40, might swap to w2 for better tint, as the spill lumens and wider spot aren't needed with the flood channel - the 'same spill size' seem to be a bigger issue with sbt90. With sft-40 and sst-20 there is a clear division of labor. Even more if you use dc-fix or remove some optics -26800 tube is nice, but heavy, and I actually like the 21700 tube balance and thickness better for my small hands - don't do 6500k and 2700k sst-20 mix, it's swampy to the point of headache. Tried bc I'll be modding anyway. Should have gone with X-pg2 to start with

@ayokay123 519a is high-CRI, has nice neutral tint with minimal tint-shift, is bright, efficient, and has a nice floody beam. It's also easy to dedome which is a bonus. Excellent as always my man. I know you mentioned stripping back your reviews due to how time consuming they were to make but I've not seen any drop in the extremely high bar you've already set for yourself. As for the DM1.12. I'm unsurprised at the lukewarm review. The dual channel lights are cool but too much of a compromise IMO. I think the DM1.12 would have worked better as a sodacan light, but I can also understand why Hank modelled it after the DM11, he's released like 4 different designs in the last year including updates for older lights. I'm surprised he's been able to keep up with the pace he's going. After awhile only being able to thermally sustain 4-600 lumens is great for something like a D4V2, but for a more expensive light like the DM 1.12 it is a bit disappointing but also unsurprising considering the sheer complexity at work here. I'm on the fence about it and I may or may not pick one up, you've convinced me the SBT-90 may be the throw channel to go for though! I'm Impressed with how well it performs; the beam profile is really nice behind that big TIR.
@dariocarafa3788
@dariocarafa3788 Жыл бұрын
When I see these reviews they're always fantastic but something that I don't see people doing is testing just like a medium high level. It's always start off at turbo and see where it goes from there but what if you started off at like a thousand lumens what would the sustain look like then and would it be able to hold a thousand lumens for a long time since it wouldn't be initially heating up so hot? Maybe people have done that and I've just missed it but a thousand lumens is quite bright especially for most anything you're going to do and then having the option for turbo when you need it seems like a good balance to me rather than just starting off on turbo having it heat up hella crazy and then struggle to thermally regulate to a comfortable temperature
@LuxWad
@LuxWad Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, the reason I don't do those tests is time. Look at zeroair and 1lumen reviews, they test every mode. I don't do tests for the lower modes because it's extremely time-consuming and rarely reveals anything of interest, most modes below Turbo are just flat, unless the light had a poor driver, in which case Turbo will still reveal the inadequacy.
@dariocarafa3788
@dariocarafa3788 Жыл бұрын
@@LuxWad okay so when you use it somewhat reasonable level like 2000 and below or maybe a thousand and below it is fairly sustained?
@dariocarafa3788

@@LuxWad because personally as cool as the turbo modes are I rarely need it and I would rather be able to have the option for a turbo if I need short-term illumination but would much prefer a mid-high output of you know 800 to 2000 that is very sustained
@LuxWad
@LuxWad Жыл бұрын
The sustained Turbo level should be the highest possible sustained output, so if it sustains ~500 lumens for example, then you can set it to 500 lumens without stepdown, maybe a bit higher on some lights

Hank now offers the DM 1.12 with a Flood channel with Nichia 519A 5700K dedome+. No LH351D. Would this variant of 519A 5700K dedome + with SBT 90.2 (or 5000K, 4500K, 3500K, 2700K dedome +) be your favorite? The color temperature of 5700K dedome+ can drop to 5000K or 4500K according to users. Do you know if the small problems mentioned in your video have been fixed? There should now also be the possibility of tint/shift mode. Best regards from Austria.

I am not sure if I think that makes this light much better honestly, because dedomed 519a are throwier than the floody domed 519a and LH351D emitters.
