Overall I don't really like this fan. The design of the blades and the stator vanes - both being straight - means they basically become an axial rotary siren. So even at low speeds, you get a similar sound to mounting a typical 7-blade fan right up against a stamped grill. I think there are much better options nowadays if you want a high quality, high speed fan - Phanteks F120T30 comes to mind. And if you want IP67 ratings, get one of Sanyo Denki's IP68-rated Splash Proof fans, like the 9WV1212P1J001. The only real reason you might go for this over the Sanyo Denki is because that one is 38mm thick. So this Noctua does seemingly occupy the very specific niche of being 120x25mm and IP67+.

Honestly? It is far more insane that a car can do that. Each piston traveling a number of inches propelled via explosion, with every rotating component riding on a cushion of oil, for many thousands of hours without fail if maintained responsibly A fan by comparison is pretty mundane. Yeah. Also just measuring raw CFM isn't that helpful unless you're planning on using the fan with zero impedance. The NF-F12 is designed for good performance at high impedances, so it might be more helpful to measure CFM through a radiator or something like that.

The problem is not the airflow sound, it is the constant cat like whine coming from the bearing at low and high rpms. The whine seems to die down at around 2000rpm. I've bought several at different times from Amazon and Newegg and almost all of them sound the same. Some are just a bit louder. Great Aesthatics and alot of air movement but the sound is the trade off.

@ydihtty
@ydihtty 2 жыл бұрын
I think its an aero sound rather than a motor sound, due to interaction between the trailing edge of the blade and the leading edge of the stator vanes. They line up, instead of having more of an angle that other fans have, so they create a very audible tone.
@Magnulus76
@Magnulus76 2 жыл бұрын
@@ydihtty It's difficult to design any fan that spins at 2200+ RPM and doesn't have a disagreeable sound. Compared to a cheap ball bearing fan, this fan is relatively quiet.
@ydihtty
@ydihtty 2 жыл бұрын
@@Magnulus76 This fan just has a bad design though. Look at every other fan which uses stator vanes, they are curved or angled to not line up with the trailing edge of the blades. This is the only fan which has them line up, and it ends up functioning similarly to a rotary siren. Plenty of other fan designs produce similar performance while sounding a lot less annoying. The radiator fan of my Radeon 6900XT LC is a good example, its a Delta FFB1212SJ-F00. I might try to do a video on this fan soon, its a great design.

"Its commanding performance, exhaustive set of features and Noctua’s trusted premium quality make it an elite choice for use on air coolers, radiators and other pressure demanding applications." noctua.at/en/nf-f12-pwm Also check this page: noctua.at/en/which_fan_is_right_for_me And this page: noctua.at/en/nf-a12x25-performance-comparison-to-nf-f12-and-nf-s12a So what you describe would apply more to something like the NF-S12A or S12B.

Was the fan taped to the table or something? i don't understand how a fan spinning that fast and pushing lots of air can just stay upright. unless it's not moving a lot of air

I think there are a few factors that contribute to this: 1. This fan is moderate weight for its size (168g, 120x25mm). 2. This fan is designed to perform well in high-impedance applications. It does still move a lot of air in low impedance applications, but not as much as many other designs. 3. The effect of the cable. With the way I have the fan positioned in most of these videos, the cable is behind and below the fan, pulling it backwards slightly. I also have a lot of extensions weighing the cable down, which would increase the pull force. 4. The focus of the airflow. I think fans which create more focused airflow will generate more thrust force per unit of air moved. This fan has straight blades, and straight stator vanes, so the airflow isn't as focused as other designs with curved forward blades, and curved stator vanes. These are just guesses though.

Slap 3 of these on a D15 air cooler and see how low the temps can get.
