The psychological competitive performing art practitioner genre is interesting that they have such powerful theme of sacrifice and vivid imagery. I liked nocturne better than I thought I would and I liked the ending was left ambiguous, because the ending would be too obvious if it wasn't left ambiguously. The Perfection was too much of an LGBT agenda. Black Swan did better with balancing LGBT theme, but the psychological aspect of Nocturne is on par with Black Swan.

Just saying, horror =/= gore or jumpscares. A lot of the bad reviews I see about this movie are almost always complaining about it not having enough of the "horror" element. Rather, I think they pushed the whole "satanic" theme well (it wasn't overwhelming to the point of being cringeworthy), and it had a good pace for its psychological terror. There aren't really any plot twists (spoiler alert?) and the movie is overall predictable, so there isn't any of that intense build-up. However, I find THAT to be the exact charming point of this movie. Most horror movie directors seem to think "ah okay, it's just the last ten minutes, I can do whatever I want now! If I make a lot of the characters suddenly die, that's so scary for sure!" or something to just mess up the ending, to mess up everything they had built so carefully and so precisely in the beginning and middle of the movie. But Nocturne follows through with its story. There's no cliche horror motif (which, if done right, can be super chilling to the bone, but it's usually done not very right) like "ah and the cycle continues" or "ah so this is what it means to-". Basically, this is a really solid movie that I think everybody should put on their bucket list. It may not feel like mainstream horror/thriller you're used to, and it may not feel like it had all the absolute best choices/themes/buildup, but it's good. It definitely all works in favor of the movie. I absolutely recommend this.

This piece is really great, especially the last scene where Juliette looks so miserable. In particular, Juliette's dismal appearance in the final scene reminded me of Fuseli's "The Nightmare," and I think there is a reason for that. First of all, the depiction of her sister Vivienne's experience of being robbed of her lover and her sexuality is similar to the background of "The Nightmare". Vivien's nickname "Vie" is exactly the same as the name of a mythical creature in East Slavic mythology and Russian folklore, the "Вий(Vie)". Legend has it that anyone who looks into the eyes of the Вий will fall into a coma and die. If you have seen this movie, you may have noticed that Juliette's final moments are a dream or a reality, an ambiguous state of mind brought about by this Вий. Juliet has become a devil as a result of her accumulated jealousy, but it turns out that her sister Vivienne has also become a devil.

I found the pieces. The trailer uses the first and last movement from Saint Saens Piano Concerto No. 2 In G Minor. Edit: From 0:00-0:25, the trailer uses the first movement from Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor. However, the makers of the film have transcribed it into G Minor, like a lot of the pieces in this film, including Saint Saen's Piano Concerto, and The Devil's Trill Sonata by Tartini.

It’s similar to The Perfection and has some Black Swan energy but it just doesn’t reach the kind of darkness that Black Swan achieved. I really liked it but there were so many moments that I was expecting something more to happen and it just didn’t. HOWEVER, the final shot of the movie is so fucked up and grotesque it was actually all worth it just for that moment.

You were spot on... The whole movie highlighted the sharp contrasts between the two sisters. Juliet didn’t even have an identity outside of wanting everything her sister had. And even after she lay dying, no one seemed to notice. I felt that it was kind of a metaphor for no one even noticing the kind of pain she was experiencing. In the end what she was chasing was external validation. It was quite sad actually.
