NoFlats Tubeless - 2 years after review

Quick review of Joe's No Flats tubeless system after two years. I have been riding downhill for a year with the system and had no problems. Last year the bike was parked in a garage.

I bought a new carbon mtb and went to ride around a college in town. After riding for about 30 minutes, I got a flat on the front tire and while pushing the bike to my truck, the back tire went flat. Stickers or grass burrs we call them in West Texas penetrated the light, thin tires. Later I went to our local club"s mtb range and quickly punctured my front tire with several thorns. After patching all of the holes, using my CO2 bottles and looking at the situation, a ranch, 15 miles from civilation, in a desert, I decided to call it a day and went straight to my bicycle shop. There I purchased some heavy duty tubes and Treks's best puncture proof tire. Filled the tubes with No Leak green stuff and off I went. Nine (9) years later I have had one flat, the tube stem ripped. Yes these tires/tube/sealant are much heavier than the paper thin tires that came with this bike but, they have not gone flat! Total miles on these tires is around 4000 and most are on pavement. My new mtb's have all had multiple flats riding on the highway. So if you do not want flats, this system might work and I am going to try it on my new Superfly 6.9 but, if it does not then I recommend heavy tires/tubes/sealant combination.

+pbodymathis the tire is WAY more important than the tube. often the manufacure use cheaper lighter tires to get a cheaper/lighter bike but you get punches easier. also there are bad combinations of rims and tires (no studs? on the hook of the rim). tubeless is a great but you should install it in spring/fall because switching the tire is annoying with tubeless and a waste of sealent

Amazing videos (especially the 2 years old installation one). I've got the same type of rims (MTX) and Stan's sealant at the ready. I've bought some Schwalbe 20" tubes with Schrader valve that's threaded all the way and can be secured on the rim just like presta valves. I'm going to try the ghetto tubeless method. Going to use Maxxis Aspen tires first. What type of bead are the High Rollers you used? Wire or kevlar? My Aspens are just the regular wire-bead version. I hope it's going to work. =)

wire? I've tought that it works only with kevlar. That is why I just ordered expensive rocket ron evo.

So let me get this right, you have replaced a tube weighing x amount for rim tape and fluid that weighs x amount, I'll bet the tubed tire/tyre weighs around about the same or LESS than the tubeless system. What is the point?
