Much enjoyed Dennis. Loved that timelapse of the cinnamon buns in the reflector oven and all the mushrooms. And the narrows into Nog are iconic. I was cringing big time at the hook removal... I know it's not the end of the world but it's just very unpleasant. Hopefully some people learn the easy way from this.

Oh Dennis...I felt your pain (and your concern) when that hook bit into you and that fish would flop. The same thing happened to me one day when my wife and I were fishing for supper on Magnetawan River. I caught a nice bass...and then the bass caught me...and it was agonizing every time it would flop around. I was very fortunate to have my wife with me, which made it much easier to free the fish and cut off the lure. The hook stayed in my thumb as we paddled back to our truck, then truck-topped it the canoe, and went to the hospital to remove the hook because it was so deeply embedded. I learned two valuable lessons on that trip: remember to flatten the barbs on newly purchased lures (all my older lures had the barbs flattened or filed off, but I was trying out a new one and forgot to remove the barb) and the doctor who removed my hook showed me how to remove a hook one-handed, using a leader! It's a trick I hope never to have to use, but a good one to know. With respect to wind on Noganosh: My wife and I have been there for perhaps 5 canoe trips, averaging 4-8 days each, in spring, summer, and autumn, and I have to say that Noganosh Lake is the windiest lake of it's size I have ever paddled. I have never seen a windless day on that particular lake. Those long arms of the lake always seem to channel the winds in such a way that you're bound to be fighting a headwind in one direction or the other on what otherwise seems a calm day. I was sorry I wasn't able to join you all on that trip, but we, for sure, have to arrange something for the 2021 paddling season, my friend. Cheers! - Martin

I must say that I learned my lesson with that fishing blunder and I hope it never happens again but I now know the correct technique as well... and we did not do it correctly. n fact I likely made the whole experience worse but we made out OK.

Look at your finger thing this way..whenni was a kid I sat on 1 of of those triple fish hook thingies.. my dad rescued me by pushing and pulling it(them) out REAL fast! That hurt! Haha!

What a beautiful place! When I lived in Ontario I was trapped in the city and had no time to explore. If I had of discovered these areas I may still be living in that province but on the other hand I escaped the city to a different province and where I now live in the country I have mountains, river and ocean and can plop my canoe in the water in 2 minutes but there are very few lakes.

Nice video Dennis. That area is on my radar. I was looking at doing a loop starting at Island lake Conservation reserve, using the hopefully new portage to Noganosh P.P. and then looping back to Wahwashkesh lake using the Magnetawan river. Nice to see some video of that area.

Ouch Dennis, that hook was nasty! Made me squirm, all my hooks are barbless, I through mostly flies any ways. You had a great set up with the rain fly just right over the fire pit and a reflector oven baking goodies, nice. Looked like a fine area to spend some time in. I do believe that "Explore the Backcountry (Brad)" has a video of the same area. Thanks for sharing, take care.

Definitely a beautiful area to paddle! I guess when things go sideways that’s what makes it an adventure. I took Jon’s advice earlier this year and pinched all my barbs. It’s unreal how quickly things can go bad, thank goodness it worked out. Very cool seeing a rock from the Facebook Hidden Rock deal they have going here in Sudbury. The portage at the base of your bay (to Sunny Lake and Magnetawan Provincial Park) is nothing to behold. It's overgrown and swampy. I went right up to shore (as far as I could) but it was buggy,, wet and mucky. I didn't bother with the 2K portage/hike - maybe another year! Cheers,

Next time feed the hook through so you can see the barb, squeeze the barb flat with your pliers and the hook will slide right out. Happened to me solo this year with a feisty 2LBS smallie on . All parties swam away no worse for wear.

Access at the Esses access point and Flemmings landing are both free. I use Flemmings because it is less crowded for the most part. Hope you have a great time

So. Always have a set of cutters strong enough to cut any hook you own. That way if you are alone and trust me when I say this. Have them out and accessible before you start fishing. If you contact me I will tell you a real story. That everyone should know

Believe me Loyd... Lesson Learned. You never know what type scenario could come up. This whole hook in the finger could have been averted had I just used the net that was beside me in the canoe... again, lesson learned...lol

@@CanoehoundAdventures ok. So here’s how my hook went. I was in a small back lake solo and 10 kms from any road. And 2 Kms from the landing. When I caught a 15 ish lb pike and as I got it to the side of the canoe I saw it was hooked on the front of three treble hooks that were on the new sharp lure.......as I reached it thrashed sending the tail hook into (through) the thumb of my other hand. So no I am trapped. If I let the fish go he rippes off my thumb. And my other hand is busy with hook through my thumb. I could really use the use of my two hands at this point. Anyway long story short eventually put fish on floor foot on fish. Reached for pliers with leg. Pushed hook through thumb. Crushed the barb pulled the hook back through and realized at that very moment all the roughness my Dad taught me. All payed off that day. It could of turned out a lot worse........... I don’t think people realize how easy things can go wrong when you are out there all alone...... plz email me @ [e-mail]. And I will send you a pic
