I've done this a few times over the years on my 3.0 Seems these lifters are not made very well as they don't last as long as they should. I've grown to hate the lifters on this engine and I really wish there was a way to convert this engine to manual valve lash adjusters.

I hope you see this and can advise me! I am finally getting to doing this since one of my fuel injectors went bad and I have the entire thing apart anyway. I am cleaning the valves while I am at it with cleaner and a brush. Anyway, I have taken off the rocker for the front valves and only 4 of the 6 new ones will seat correctly! What gives? It feels like there is pressure or something that won't let them fully seat. The lash adjusters compress when squeezed. That's not the issue, the problem is that some don't seem to want to go flush with the hole they go into on the rocker arm. I am trying to thin of if it is because of the way the valves were when it was turned off? But the rocker arm assembly is out of the engine and doesn't seem to be impacted by that now. Tried other new lifters and same thing, they wont go all the way down. They were soaked for days in oil so that was done also. I have NOT taken a grip wrench or pliers or anything to try and force it yet as I wanted to research it first. Any advice would be much, much appreciated. Thanks for giving me the confidence to give it a shot!

First of all, make sure the rocker is going back in the same way it came out. There are arrow marks that I pointed out in the video. It will definitely not line up if reversed. Some pressure may be expected based on the valve position at the moment the engine was shut down. Rotating the engine clockwise a bit by hand will release that valve pressure if that's the issue. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Hello, Great videos. Did you prep your new lifters in any way? I soaked mine in oil for a day and after install they are tapping really loud. I am not sure if I did something wrong or what's going on. Thanks.

I didn't soak them but I can't think why that would cause noise if you did. I would think maybe they need to warm up a bit and break in.

@@TheOriginalMechanic Thanks for the reply. I guess I was just nervous. I took it on a long drive and they quieted down.

I am hoping the 3.8L town and country is the same procedure and the same location on the hydraulic lifter as what you are working on. I got a 2006 town and country with 3.8 with a collpased valve and it appears to be in front head by the radiator. Can a person these lifters individually?
@TheOriginalMechanic3 жыл бұрын
They can be replaced individually.
@alchemy13 жыл бұрын
@@TheOriginalMechanic I hope so. I meant can a person purchase one or two lifters instead of the entire set. Furthermore, the main question really was if in the 3.8L the lifters are up on top like what you got going on. It is hard to believe they would make it this easy. It is interesting to notice the title of your video. I.e. "3.0 and others". Others is an interesting term. So whe the lifters tap. It does that to remind us to replace them. That is another interesting find. I didn't know that. What are the chances of you replacing the lifters on a 3.8L chryslter van. I got a reminder going on too. I like to see how easy is this..."other".
