Noita PvP is becoming an E-Sport

This is the only good noita PVP i've seen, all of the others are just spammy messes, but each player here had their own unique combat style. Kabbywave with the death laser and maneuverability, commander owls with the environmental hazards such as summoning oceans of lava and electrified water, farcreature with the ranged homing, unlawfulparrot with the forcefield energy ball wand, etc. I especially liked how towards the end, the battlefield became full of wizard spells such as summoned meteorites/fireballs, huge oceans, solidified lava, tunneling, tentacles, projectiles, etc. I also liked that the effects of the players wand forced tactical play such as staying outside of the zone that lava will fall. Being the spectator makes it so much more clear on what's going on. The ruleset I've built out helps a fair bit as things don't go into just end game screen explosions until the final few rounds most of the time. I'm glad you enjoyed the content and I love your description of how all the players developed their playstyles, it makes me appreciate noita pvp even more!

@1e0isfdkorblpgThe spell scaling is very tough because keeping the pacing is tough. Also when spells stay on the low tiers for too long everyone just ends up with machine gun wands which is unfortunate. A better health scaling system would be extremely nice as people do just get straight up 1shot forever unless you super hard focus any and all hp bonuses.

A battle royale mode would be sick, imagine if everyone starts in their own parallel world and you gotta just bust in to your neighbor's world and go kill them. Stuff like that would be amazing, but hard to pull off undoubtedly. Also I'm not sure if nolla could make a noita pvp mode better themselves haha, the amount of tech that's gone into making noita arena work is absurd!

That would actually be really cool, a relatively large map with random wands/flasks spread out. Perhaps biome chunks containing enemies and potentially higher tier wands.

I've only recently started getting into Noita, haven't beaten the game yet (or gotten past an earlyish level for that matter), and the skill and awareness shown here by all players is super cool to see!

There’s “rat releases” in the Noita arena discord that has many more features than base Noita arena. To get them you gotta get the test rat role.

I did not, I have a bunch more videos on noita pvp actually, including one with the developer if you're interested in learning more. It is like real life black magic that this works. Dungeon of the endless is such an underrated gem, I wish I could say I beat the game but even at 41 hours I don't think I ever came close haha.

i don't think you should have too many rules, it's noita :) but of course it's your call, it should be fun either way. the homing gigadisc tsunami and the sea of lava were really funny moments edit: definitely a Commander Owlz fan here

I haven't tried it but I think it must be difficult to sync the simulation and projectiles that have random factors(like spread).

Believe it or not a lot of the randomness has been successfully synchronized. Any weird looking hits tend to be due to lag which can be compensated for with proper aim and understanding. I recently held a tournament and the skill expression was very high!

My 4090 struggles with Noita at times when there’s only 1 spellcaster. I wonder if all players lag equally, or if a better graphics card is a big advantage

Lag can do some funky things in pvp but it's weird because sometimes lag can be an advantage as you need to be hit on your screen to take damage so if you are just frozen in place from lag you are immune to damage. That said with just the right amount of lag your opponent will just be faster than you. Also noita is a CPU based game, it barely uses GPU at all so having a top tier graphics card isn't an advantage.

That would be one of the options for sure. Any fast moving spell could bypass repulsion.

this is fun. more please. also there needs to be more balancing. some hard caps on wands and spells. maybe no more sea-ofs and greek letter level spells. focus on the lower levels, make potions a tool. make shops have all but it's a question of choices and money.

Currently ambrosia is available in the item pool so I have decided for the time being to ban items. In the future I may change that ruling but just for the upcoming tournament. I've been trying to fine tune this ruleset to allow for an early game, mid game and late game with the spell builds. It just really depends on how good the players are at wand building. I definitely think in the future doing early game focused events is a good idea as there tends to be a lot more technical skill in the first few rounds. Later rounds tend to be more about creativity and positioning.

i was playing with my nephew the other day and he lucked into spells to giga cross. that was rough. probably a spell we ban. fucking boime wiped me.

@@repthehthe spells to X are definitely quite dangerous, I think they have enough counterplay and defensive spells definitely deserve a place in the meta. They definitely are something I have to keep a close eye on though as they are pretty ridiculous when they show up.

I wish we could have a zoom out but it has been pretty problematic every time we add it. I imagine eventually it will work but it will likely have to be hard coded as slightly zoomed out as anything dynamic is literally harder than multiplayer with the way it's coded in the engine.

The noita online discord has a dedicated little community of people always looking to do some duels! I'm hoping as I do some tournaments it cultivates a bit more desire to just commit magical acts of violence against one another, for fun of course.
