The smallest bit of gold I’ve found in Arizona was with the Nokta FORS Gold; so small that you have to use a loupe to see the gold. The FORS gold also found my favorite nugget as well. So, when I had the opportunity to try the Nokta AU Gold Finder, I jumped at the chance to try it out; and was not disappointed.
As I usually do with a new detector I put it together, skim through the instruction manual and head right to the field to try it out. Nothing was different on this day when my buddy Al and I jumped on the Can Am and headed to a wash that produces nuggets over and over again. The main part of the wash has been picked clean so what we usually do is pull the overburden off the sides of the wash and detect the bedrock. We usually do rather well picking small nuggets off the hot bedrock.
I generally use a small coil while detecting bedrock so I used the 5” coil on the AU Gold Finder with just the factory settings. Within 10 minutes of clearing off the bedrock the AU Gold Finder screamed on a .3 gram nugget. I was amazed at how well the detector handle the hot bed rock with a smooth and quiet threshold. It wasn’t 5 minutes later, the AU Gold Finder sounded off on a .13 gram nugget. The total for that morning was four little nuggets; not bad for a new detector right out of the box. I can’t wait to get back out again with the AU Gold Finder after reading the manual more and try out the different settings. That AU Gold Finder is a tool box of information that is a gold nugget hound. I’ll take it out one more time to try out the different settings and then out to do some patch hunting as well as hit some other washes. The AU Gold Finder is going to be a GREAT go-to detector for all my prospecting adventures.
