@@joelspringman7748 Each department's (that is in question,) union contract needs to be reviewed. This may assist to provide an explanation to any inquiries regarding overtime pay. If a time sheet/card does not coincide with the contract, and there is discrepancy, then I would definitely question it too, whether it is with the police or anyone else, that is unionized, or submits time records, for that matter. Conversely, another situation that should be questioned are companies/employers that possibly alter employee time records to cut down on payroll expenses, unbeknownst to the employee.

There may still be some sort of tax loophole that "protects" police,etc. from IRS issues that would otherwise cause average citizen to pay extra taxe$ for the benefit of a take home car. One of my friends who worked for a private company had a take home car,and company had to give him a "raise" that he did not see on his net paycheck, just to offset the tax on the benefit of a free ride to and from work daily. IRS position was that it is a personal, not "business" trip to get to and from work.

Effective daily supervision should have prevented the problems that these special programs invite. Essentially,these counties/parishes "hired" state troopers as contractors. The parishes want a higher level of enforcement and also want the monie$ from fines. Could somebody up the chain of command not look at the mileage sheets compared to time sheets? Did the tickets line up with the time and mileage sheets? If he drove less than 40 extra miles above a regular shift while patrolling from home ( or is it "tele-patrolling" ) would it not raise questions? Especially if it was 40 miles each way to the assigned extra parish?

I've noticed that, too. It is rare to see less than 4 cops show up for anything. It is a bad use of resources. There really needs to be a shake-up of all police units. Between the unnecessary unarmed shootings, the unwarranted violence, the goofing off, & the fear to confront armed criminals, it's ridiculous. Oversight, different training, better screening, less militarization, & more prosecutions of bad cops are all needed.

Go on the NJ and Massachusetts states sites and look up the figures. Everyone in my town badly wanted into the NJ state police. It was an all white town and quotas were really taking hold, so only the very best whites made the cut. I never tried because I didn't think I was macho enough. Tough enough yeah, but not douchy. We had one from our high school make it every class. That was the top career because we all knew it was easy money and respect and the uniforms look amazing. Back then, the 80s they were making around 65k for their first year then 85 their third. Now they are probably into six figures for a first year guy. A few made around 280k last year. They were patrolmen. Check out this article: www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2011/12/six_nj_state_police_troopers_e.html

@@kneelb4m33k5 fair enough, but how many times do departments conclude there was "no wrong doing" after investigating themselves. Law enforcement only wants transparency when they are investigating citizens. The most telling part is the chief doesn't even seem outraged by the total disrespect of law and taxpayer money, but rather embarassed that they were exposed publicly before he could get ahead of it.

Millions. 50k for 20 years is a million. He was making 250k and only supposed to earn 97k. For those who have poor math skills thats 3 million and 60 thousand in just over time pay. regular folks who make 40k and work 40 years only earn 1.6 million in their entire life. He has made double what most people earn in just over time. He also did it in half the time.

The head of the department was aware of the problem and did nothing definitively about it. They had to wait until it was publically exposed to do something. It shows how officers can easily get away with almost anything.

Why would he stop it? This works great on the pension. He knows when "his time" comes he'll get the same deal. Desk cops suddenly start pulling "extra shifts" out on patrol... special assignments... night shifts (with extra pay for working nights)... all kinds of scams. Shifting their days-off to days when they have court appearances so they can claim overtime; they got 4 hours overtime pay per appearance... so they'd have 3-4 cases in one morning AND CLAIM 16 HOURS overtime.

A standard police officer was being payed 240k a year. And noone noticed that!? I think alot of the fault here lies with his boss. Surely his boss was handing him a paycheck? And surely he was suspicious?
@ttech694
@ttech694 5 жыл бұрын
Not many people get "handed a paycheck" anymore unless you work low wage jobs. Everything is direct deposit. His boss doesn't see his paychecks. There's privacy laws against that. All the boss sees are his time sheets. The boss obviously wasn't doing his job by verifying the times. Just approving time sheets. Are there more officers doing this also?

When I worked at a 6 bed group home I was in charge to write the working schedule and time figure out the time sheets. Man! If an employee ended up with a few hours of over time I would get in hot water with the CEO for not paying attention on how to properly arrange the hours so they wouldn't put over time. So, how is it that whoever wrote the checks did not noticed anything wrong with this?
