I live in Taiwan. It really is difficult for black women to date other foreign men in Asia. A lot of foreign men from the west come to Asia to date Asian women (it’s an actual thing). Just like you, I don’t have a racial preference but I have found it easier to date African men. I make videos about my life in Taiwan and you are an inspiration.

You are correct. The foreign men who come to Asia and that include Taiwan, are looking for an Asian woman; more accurately, a stereotypical submissive, passive, and obedient (the Suzie Wong) wife. And Taiwan, Korea, and Japan (together) are small countries in comparison to African countries in size, and so don’t offer a diverse selection of different groups of people or men available who would want to date or marry you as a black woman.

@@melaniebvc that really is far worse. I can’t even imagine being in that situation. From my experience in Taiwan, African men are interested in African girls and other race girls too 😂 but eventually they settle with African girls. Just that the pool of African men is small and even smaller when you start breaking it down in-terms of compatibility and all. I do know a number of Taiwanese men dating black girls but that’s the lowest demographic in interracial relationships in Taiwan. I have gone on a couple of unfruitful dates with Taiwanese men because of the language barrier, cultural differences etc. however, I have also noticed most African girls in Taiwan don’t really want to date Asian men. At the end of the day, all foreigners in Taiwan will tell you dating here is not easy. Western men do have an upper hand though as they are considered exotic here.

I'm only 18 and probably shouldn't be feeling this way, but I have never been desired by anyone and understand how you felt. I know how crushing it can be to have no one showing interest in you or to be the person that's overlooked (obviously not to the same extent as someone much older). I think I've always been the "ugly friend," but that has pushed me to learn more about myself, accept my own looks, grow as a person, and just learn to love myself in general. I'm young and still have A LOT of room to grow. Frankly, it sucks because i am a hopeless romantic, but I'm sure I'll find my person with time.

I remember feeling like this when I was younger ❤ I started to turn it into a little joke when I would find myself getting a little down like 'do you reaaaallly think you'll be alone for ever, do you really think you'll never have a first kiss?' etc (yes I was a very late bloomer lolll). I lived in Korea for years. These men will have no problem seeing you in secret and in the shadows. Especially since foreign women are seen as “more open minded” and they know they will get sex out of it. Some men *are* attracted to women with a tan/ darker skin, in the same way that some men are attracted to women who are overweight. Actually being seen with that kind of woman on your arm is a totally different ball game. If you are traveling across the country, meeting him at his apartment and sleeping with him so soon, he is not taking you seriously. Have you met any of his real friends? His family members? Has he presented you with a title amongst people he cares about? If not, it’s just a situationship. Even worse that you met online, which is also not taken seriously.

I can relate to some extent, with being transgender, I lived as both female and male, tried to date men as a woman, and now struggle with dating women as a man and discovered how in my opinion it is much harder to date as a man since no women would even give me a chance. I feel the insecurity that made him act that way but it doesn't excuse his behavior. I also dated a guy who was into heavy women before my coming out as FTM trans and I was too skinny for him. He just dated me because he couldn't get anyone more to his taste and was clinging to me only till he found someone really heavier. It felt horrible. I feel it is totally ok to have preferences on any spectrum but I think people should try to be more honest and respectful even when desperate, deal square with others and their expectations, and don't pretend to commit to a long-term relationship with someone they don't really like waiting for the first opportunity to ditch them when someone more to their liking pays them attention. I think you look amazing anyway, better men will come :D

There are bad men all around the world of the same race or other race. In Korea I wouldn’t take it so personally as I’ve had chinese friends experience racism there so not always a colour thing, it’s still a very homogenous society. I preferred to move and live in places where I was more in demand and that was the best thing I did for my dating life. Different strokes for different folks.

a similar thing happened to me, but it was strung out over nearly 3 years and we are both Americans! they just told me one day out of the blue that they really want to be with me, but they couldn't get over me being black. When I tell you I was :O and yeah it ruined everything for a long time. I'm glad you have worked through it! I'm so sorry this happened to you, I also faced a very similar situation. I live in Taiwan and I met this taiwanese guy that I really liked and we would text often and even have calls but the problem is we also lived very far like basically opposite ends of the island so there was over a 4 hour difference. however, one day he did decide to come to the south where i live and he also had other friends here. we met up and had a great time and a date but then shortly after.. he started ghosting me. and that's when I realised he also used me. I am also a black woman so I am 90% sure he just didn't want anything serious with me because of my race. he probably met someone else that is his type and then started ghosting me. thankfully I now have a boyfriend who is also black with a similar background to me so now I dont have to worry about that kind of situation happening again. As someone who lived over 10years in Korea, I know exactly that type of guys. Such a thing couldn't happen to me as I know koreans quite well, but as it was a new situation for u I can understand that u didn't know that kind of type. Korean men are Coward, that's why the phenomenon " ghosting" is so spread out in Korea. They are too Coward tell their real thoughts. If they don't wanna meet a woman again, they don't say it, they prefer to disappear quietly. Or in your case it was worse. The reason why he met u in busan was propably he got curious about black woman. But he noticed u are not his type but instead to tell u this he kept going on messaging u, because he liked the fact THAT U ARE INTERESTED in him. He I guess doesn't get much attention from women so he used you for that. That makes me wanna spit on him honestly... There are good Korean men too , but really difficult to meet them. It's about luck. My fiance who is a Korean himself, also don't like his own countries men, he knows about the bad sides of them. Anyway, I wish u happiness from now on, u were brave and honest to yourself with leaving Korea. It was a big step. And last thing: my mum always said " not a beautiful face , a beautiful destiny is important " ( just because one is pretty doesn't guarantee her life will be good too).

Most of them are just here for fun and killing time. I am from France, and I tried Tinder out of curiosity. Never again. Im really sorry this happened to you. Please do not let anyone make you think less of yourself. They are not worth the stress. I can certainly relate to your story as I've lived in Dubai almost 6.5 years and have had similar experiences with men from a variety of backgrounds. I've been very open minded but it is yet to make any difference in my relationship outcomes. Dating is not easy here but it is a shit show if you are a black woman. At least this has been my experience. In my time here, I have never been in a long term relationship besides trying different apps over the years. I have either found people who see me as some sort of "experiment" (I literally had someone from Bumble call me "exotic meat" some weeks back) or an item to tick off their list before they tie the knot with someone their society will dim "acceptable". So I have decided to deuce out of dating apps because they do not work for me, I know there are few people that it works for but I don't think that is how I will meet the right person for me tbh. It's been over half a decade with no progress so I don't think its farfetched for me to come to this conclusion. I've decided instead that I will be focusing on myself and enriching my life, getting my money up, taking care of myself, traveling to new places and spending time with family and friends that are good to me. I like to believe the right person for me is out there. I don't know if and when I will meet him but I stay open. I just don't think he is on Bumble or whatever.
