We have taken a few "test" trips these last couple years, mainly to Spain and Portugal. we can attest to all of what you are saying. We see money as a tool to gain our freedoms and finance our trips not to acquire "things" we don't even bring back any souvenirs when we come back except for some candy to our grandchildren (which we buy last minute at the airports) You do have to get really good at logistics and weight management (luggage weight) you do quickly realize you don't need as much things as you think you do. We are planning on starting our full time nomad lifestyle in December next year at the age of 52. Cheers!

Love this video. Funny, I was talking to my therapist this morning about how when I traveled recently we ran into a lot of challenges with the public transportation and we just laughed the experience off. But when we tell others the stories they act shocked that we laughed it off. My therapist was saying how we’ve built confidence and have a greater ability to adapt then most so they wouldn’t see the situation as easy or funny. You really do build confidence through travel. It’s a beautiful thing.

I think for me the hardest part is not having friends to call up and hang out with, and it is hard to make them when you are on the move, or at least to have consistency. The other things are annoying (packing up, moving etc.) but are secondary to the community aspect for me. Although the routine/exercise one is also difficult for sure!

What a great video! My husband and I are traveling the world about 80% of the year but have kept our home base in NM, But it’s rented out while we travel helps pay for the travel! I also manage our other 6 vacation rentals while on the road. (The idea of selling it all comes up a lot haha!) Cheers! 🍻

Thanks for another great video. There is one skill that is essential to living a successful nomadic lifestyle, and that is the ability to plan. Not only do you need to be good at it, but you need to enjoy planning your travels to sustain that lifestyle for longer than a few months. I think that is why so few couples adopt this lifestyle, because they lack the planning skills to pull it off.

Hi guys, for me, that was one of your best videos. You did not pull any punches. A nomad lifestyle is not for everyone, and I can see how it would not work for me. I like to travel a lot but also appreciate having a home base. Next spring, my wife and I will have been living full-time in Spain for 15 years. We both like to travel, but it's always nice to get home. Your Spain videos were some of your earliest, and Brian is right that now you would have a completely different experience if you were to come back. Enjoy the holidays at home, and we look forward to Argentina next year. Great steaks and Malbec wine. How can you go wrong?

More solid content from you guys. So much of travel is learning which is only beneficial if you're open to it. We've lived and traveled a fair amount abroad, so some things don't faze us but the slower, extended travel will be new when we start next month. Your point about community is spot on and one which people likely don't fully consider. Always happy to hear what you've learned - looking forward to sharing what we learn.

Cheers to both! I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends! As December rolls in we get to thinking about holidays and parties. I hope you have some of those planned as well. I appreciate the refresher on a nomad. I am doubtful that I would be "working" as I travel. But I am all about "chasing experiences". I would rather have an experience rather than a good/product any day of the week! Safe travels!

Great video...again! I most miss my friends. I do a good job of setting aside time each week to text, sometimes call those with Whatsapp. I have to keep in mind that i am the one out of the country and out of the social circles. Hence, im desiring the need to make contact perhaps a little stronger than they are. Plus they are working and im.... slow traveling! I have more time to text. Also i dont miss family drama now that im away. But i have to tattle on myself. Family drama pops up and resolves itself without me knowing it. But sometimes i miss being in the kool-aid and putting my two cents into it! I didnt realize that about myself until slow traveling.

I've done the nomad life here in the US...unfortunately my employer doesn't allow me to work outside the US...working west coast hrs can be tough, no friends can be tough, but hey the other side, is I get to travel, work when I work, work in all situations (aka at coffee shops, hotel lobbies/rooms, on trains, etc). You have to accept the limitations of clothes and always planning food.

It's funny you mention having to get used to shops being closed on Sundays, for example. Many are too young to remember, but the US wasn't always an open 24/7 culture as well. As a kid, I remember the only things that may have been open on Sundays were possibly gas stations and milk machines...

You both have been such a motivating force for us. We may still be a bit naive and by we I mean me... my wife is more practical than I. But my mindset seems aligned well. I don't say we can't do something. I instead try saying "How how can we do that?" Hence the visions of off-roading in a Segway, or zipping along on a jet surfboard.. especially since I can't surf anymore with my back and fused ankle. 😮 Don't recommend falling off a roof.😊 But I have a really cool wolf head cane to go with my bald-headed Viking with a stunning white beard, Instagram influencer look.🤔😳😉💪 So thanks again. 😊

New subscriber. Thanks for the informative video. Curious to know if slow travel is possible in Eastern Europe on around $1100 USD per month. Apparently Albania and Georgia allow full year tourist visas. I’m not in facebook. Any alternative ideas for connecting and establishing a rapport with expats, locals would be great. Thanks.

I would recommend checking out some of the expat groups on Reddit or looking up local meetups online. FB is a great option for many expats to connect. Albania and Georgia are great options for long-term visas and SE Asia is very affordable!

Pleeease go back to Spain and focus on your local experience and adventures. I was one of your first followers when you were in Valencia, and as maybe amateur as your videos were, I loved that you were in Spain and enjoying the culture. Your channel has developed into much more about information on slow travel and less about the adventure and experiences of living in other countries and the cultural influences and joys. I understand that burn out is real when you are traveling a lot, but I wish you would focus more on the joy of immersing yourselves in a new culture. Otherwise, what’s the point really?

@@BrianandCarrie It's great that you're moving around and experiencing a lot. One many times needs to travel around to different places in order to decide where one might want to eventually settle down for longer periods of time. Over the many decades of world travel, I first settled in one Northern European country for up to 11-12 weeks over a two-decade period of annual back and forth trips and then took other trips from that point. But, fast forward into other years when that main country became one that I would visit, but no longer settle into long term as I had moved on to other places in the world to settle into for a longer term. One gets to a point where one knows where one wants to be or doesn't want to be. I have certain main spots on different continents and travel to them at different times of the year and settle in longer. Keep up the great work and travel adventures as one won't know what one likes or dislikes unless one has actually been there. 😎 🌴🌊 Greetings from Los Angeles
