Great stuff. I've got one other suggestion that can really help you connect with the culture in your destination: Go out and support live music. In Asia if you're younger there is all the flavors of pop... K-Pop; J-Pop, Thai; But take it a step further and try to find a representation of the more traditional or classical music in your given Country. Also, you might visit a local museum or art gallery.

For me it definitely it came in stages. At age 17, I took my first major trip outside of Canada (not including US). It was a trip to France and Italy with a tour organised by my school. This gave me the confidence to do an extended trip on my own. That trip I did at age 21 when I went almost everywhere west of Poland in Europe. THAT gave me confidence to do a trial move to China in 2012. When I did that move, the attitude was always "if I don't like it; i'll come back".

Great Video, i think for someone just starting their global citizen journey like myself and my girlfriend this is really helpful to just relax and take one step after the other without overthinking everything. Also what i found helpful in my situation is changing my mindset from "i need to get (run) away from a place that i dont like anymore" (in my case the EU) to "I am looking forward to a new way of lifestyle and trying to find more benefitial situations to my current life choices" I felt this clear and positive way of visionising my future works much better for the universe to actually attract it into reality compared to just pointing out what i don´t like.

I live in Cali, Colombia and I lived in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for 3 years. They are both dangerous cities as is Bogota and New York City. All of Latin America can be dangerous. One has to be aware of the dangerous areas and activities. If one is prudent and aware in these cities they will not have any problems. Colombia right now is prety precarious because there are riots in all cities. The government just proposed some ridiculous tax increases. Now is not a good time to be in the streets. It will pass. I do support these riots because the government is way out of line. Also the government here expects this activity. It is somewhat a wierd negotiation process. I still love Colombia.

My grandma was robbed while taking me to school about 30 years ago in Singapore. Someone clipped her gold necklace and ran off on a motorbike. Do you still see such crimes in Singapore in 2021? Very rare - but many people's perception of developing countries still remained stagnant [from 20-30 years ago] or from Hollywood movies.
@humptydumpty203 жыл бұрын
@NostaIgia 30 years ago, it was a developing country and based on WTO definition, Singapore is still a developing country. My point is that many people are still stuck to their perceptions of certain countries, while these countries have progressed.
@humptydumpty203 жыл бұрын
@@metalguru5226 I was born and grew up there dude. Trust me I know what I'm talking about. Singapore is still relatively safe compared to many countries even 30 years ago. But that robbery was a real experience not made up. If your visits are around Orchard Road, it never looked Third World of course. The metro system only started 28 years ago. My point is that some people's perception are stagnant while many countries have progressed and moved on. There are still people who are surprised that a Singapore passport has visa-free access to the USA. That's how stagnant many people still are. You are free to have your opinions but to say that I am "totally wrong" is unjustified and uncool dude. And it definitely doesn't erase the fact that the robber snatched the gold necklace from my grandma and escaped on a motorbike. I was beside her that morning on my way to school.

As someone with a family, I’m curious about what renouncing would look like. Can my wife and/or kids maintain citizenship if I renounce? If you and your wife file taxes jointly and she remains a citizen of the US, then she will be subject to global taxation. So there will be an IRS in your life if you file jointly with her. At 67, now applying for first, hopefully not last, residency Visa... def plan on a passport or two, whatever I can afford. My point is that you don't need great wealth to begin... and by getting going and getting out just to start, your odds of building more wealth can open up exponentially. No matter your finances, these principals remain the same. Go where you will be treated best, given whatever resources you have. Andrew, I'd love to hear your advice regarding working with an apprehensive spouse. How do you work with a spouse when they're hesitant to leave the US? The hesitancy is especially due to concerns for travel back to see family, lifestyle for our kids, etc.

Divorce. Let her burn through her half of the assets while you continue to grow your net worth.

Go on Vacation and just start making it longer and longer or get sick for your return flight then keep extending things. maybe invite the in-laws to your house overseas

Good points, you touched on what people do daily or what they care about with health, wealth & quality of life. I like the expat bubble one because if you can meet people of same background they can tell you the good/bad spots, daily life questions etc and you can go from there. Give you the lay of the land so to speak. Thanks Andrew
