I became a Cambodian by investment about 10 years ago. One thing they don't mention is how difficult they make it to renew your passport. You can't just stroll up and renew like other Cambodian citizens. You have to take all your original paperwork over to the Interior Ministry and pay to have it all certified before they'll even talk to you. So be prepared to take several days and spend $1000 - $2000 when your passport needs to be renewed.

Andrew, true a number of countries in Asia restrict their citizenship... namely they don't like dual citizens among other things. I have the "right to residence" in two Asian countries as a US citizen, but I will never get my citizenship there. Not worth giving up my US passport yet. The countries I will mention don't exactly have established programs. I get this by my family ties. 1) India: I am of Indian background. I am a USA citizen by birth. India doesn't allow dual citizenship. I have what is called as an OCI visa. That is how I can reside in India. I have the right to work if I want it, but I don't see the need for India yet. 2) Vietnam: I am what they call a foreign spouse of a Vietnam citizen. My wife of 20 years is a dual US and Vietnam citizen. I get a visa waiver as a result. My wife is what they call as a Viet Kieu. Vietnam has a funny citizenship law. If you were born a Vietnam citizen, you can be a dual citizen and keep your Vietnam citizenship. If you naturalize as a Vietnam citizen, you must renounce your previous citizenship. That is why I will not get Vietnam citizenship.

Good video! I call these programs citizenship *for* investment, as the goal isn't global mobility. It's an entry ticket to invest in one of the world's fastest growing economies as a local. In practice, the donation route is much more common. The business investment route must be under a qualified investment project (QIP). These can only be in certain sectors, like manufacturing, and each sector has its own minimum investment amount - most of them well above $300k.

My Thai ex-gf relocated to Vancouver, Canada and is absolutely miserable there, she'll be returning to Bangkok at the end of the year.

@@zonansg4212 As far as I know, that many Chinese people are immigrating illegally to US and EU while so many Hong Kong citizens are abandoning their country and fleeing to UK, Canada or Australia. People in Indian also contribute a lot in these legal or illegal immigrants. And people in Vietnam, Thailand also want to leave their country. I was a Hong Kong citizen and now I’m living in UK. I have to admit that UK is in deep trouble but Asia’s economy and living surroundings are worse than you thought.

Asia is good for westerns that have money, that's why. Asia is not good if you're broke.
