Lions can be nomadic at any stage of their lives after leaving their natal pride. Some never take over a pride, some lose their pride, some take over and lose multiple prides in their lives, and are nomadic in between.

Lol they're being submissive and fearful. This was a nomadic lion who had almost definitely stolen their kill. When it comes to large male lions, even nomadic ones can bully a pride of lionesses and take the kill for himself.
