Nomadic School: Education in the Remote Region of Iran | SLICE | FULL DOCUMENTARY

In the Zagros Mountains, in southwestern Iran, a teacher accompanies a family of nomadic herdsmen, the Bakhtiaris, on their spring transhumance. For three weeks, he walks with them, and in the evenings, he gives the children lessons. His mission is to give them a basic education, which is essential if they want to find a job in the city where they hope to settle.
The journey is a real race against the cold and wind. It takes them along steep ridges and cliffs, and through narrow crossings and snowy passes. In the end, when the nomads reach their summer camp, the teacher organises exams for the children. This year, the transhumance was particularly significant for this family. It was their last transhumance on foot, heralding a break away from an age-old tradition.

"Bakhtiari" literally means the "companion of fortune" and it is in these most challenging conditions of life that Bakhtiari's find their good luck - they are physical and mentally very strong and durable people, their children are strong and very bright and they never give up in the face of adversity.

Wow, this documentary is beautiful on so many levels and the cinematography is excellent. There are two camps, the people who say the best times of their lives are spent in the mountainous green pastures, and those who wish to escape that lifestyle. The elders worry about the disappearance of the culture like so many nomadic people around the world. Thank you for producing this fine video filled with raw beauty of the people and the land.
