LOVE your DYI enthusiasm ! I had similar issues a decade ago -- turned out a grounding rod located in an underground transformer box was loose from the box being hit off / on by zero turn mower and that damage UNSEEN because it was covered by the locked transformer cover allowed wide fluctuations in power & the dips caused many tv / monitors / computers to get damaged & require replacement - eventually box was hit hard enough it broke off entire grounding rod & no surge protectors in place saved a single item - 3 households (including mine) had damage to EVERY receptacle / electronic device / mother board to microwaves etc etc --- costly & a lesson in utilities .... our company refused replacement help as they stated it was damage done to their equipment & no fault of theirs & the lawn service person left town -- so us homeowners came out of pocket to replace ALL THINGS ELECTRONIC 👀😆😆

Actually, that old monitor can probably be fixed quite easily. It's probably just a few caps or other electronic components on the PCB in the bottom, and if these monitors are so sought after, there will possibly be someone who wants to have it and fix it to use in their own "all original" arcade. The tube is most certainly not destroyed, besides the burn-in.

Glad you have an arcade home base man. Keep up the great vids.

Sweet upgrade on those monitors! They will last you much longer. Careful with those ancient high voltage CRT when you pull them out. Those ancient tubes hold a charge for years. Going to save $$ on electricity as well. That is the way to handle the plug in that cabinet, perfect. Make sure you place it where you have access to it from the front change door if you need to reset it or power it off.
@tdhawk1673 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that maybe if your electrical for the house is at least partially run under your house, when you get all that standing water, maybe the wires get swamped in the water... maybe that's what's been going on? When it gets wet, interferes? When it dries out, things start working? Just an idea 💕

The power adapter for your monitor is usually an ac to dc power converter. On the back of the monitor it should give its power requirements. I would use a multimeter to check the voltage coming out of the machine that previously powered the original screen and simply convert the power to match your new monitor or vice versa finding a monitor to match your power source. Nice work!

I would definitely put a sine wave power line conditioner on those games and turn them off like they are precious. I think your remote caused some surges my man. Believe me I hate having to say that but I think it will protect your games in the future. I for one love your led conversion, but I'm a techy. As for a bezel I would paint the back of plasi glass black and go that way
@jwells48533 жыл бұрын
Second time trying this, so let's go! On Playboy pinball machine, check for a thermal resistor. Thermal resistors start to turn the devices they are connected to on and off when they wear down. They are designed to prevent the equipment from overheating.

Game machines came out fantastic you do really good work. Your pinball machine might have to be on its own individual circuit. Or possibly it takes awhile for it to adjust once all the other machines are on. Remember your surge protector only protects what's plug into it it can't fix the current going to it. So even a slight deviation incurring can shut the machine down.

@lyfandeth3 жыл бұрын
You could splice the AC cords internally, but your surge detector kludge might be a good thing, since it adds a surge protector. Also, old CRTs can often be refurbished and brought back to life, so trying to sell it reduces toxic waste (that's heavily leaded glass) if nothing else. You can't just throw it out, it needs HAZMAT dispo$al.

Hey Eric, instead of foam board look at using sheets of kydex for the bezels. It’s black plastic and one side is textured, the other side is smooth and glossy. It’s easy to cut and heat moldable. I used it to make a custom bezel for my car stereo and it works great. Just an idea.

John T. Williams, a 50-year-old seventh generation Nitinaht carver of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations, was shot four times by a Seattle police officer on August 30, 2010. He died at the scene. His only crime appears to have been walking across the street carrying a carving knife and a chunk of cedar. Many facts were presented in the inquest, but none of them explained why Birk shot Williams with so little provocation. It was established that there had been no citizen complaints against Williams that would help to explain why the officer initiated contact with Williams, and no witnesses saw Williams behaving in a threatening manner; in fact, two eyewitnesses described Birk as the aggressor. It was also evident that Birk never identified himself as an officer of the law-the witness nearest to the shooting testified at the inquest that she heard Birk yelling, but ignored it as a common occurrence on a downtown street.

If it fails randomly, it may be heat-flex where the solder has a break and as the board heats up it flexes enough to stop connection and fail. I've not done solder reflow, but check chips either soldered on the boards or press them down to test theory.

Just for safeties sake with all those arcades and other electronics you really need to have a professional electrician check out your breaker box, wiring and capacities. Using surge protectors useful but you're running a heck of a lot more electricity through that house than a normal house would. You could wake up to an engulfed house or see it burning down while on the road. We don't want that!

Electronics, especially really old electronics, don't like to have the power cycled. The like for the power to be on ALL the time. When you cycle and cool the electronics off and in turn heat them up, your stressing the internal components. You also have a moisture problem and you can guess why that's bad? Get yourself a cheap digital hygrometer.

Solder the wire correctly off the power feed for the monitor or make an end that way it’s all plugged in and hooked up to the existing monitors power. Keeps it more original. That being said the surge protection is a good idea as well. Can’t be to safe
