Sadie’s sleep issue is what I always called overstimulation. At 3-5 months babies become so much more interactive with their environment and they are watching and taking in everything they see and hear. Some babies are better at self-soothing than others. Sadie seems to be very alert and aware, which is making it harder for her to unwind for sleep. She needs to be taught to gradually slow down and relax. She needs more quiet, less stimulating activities leading up to bedtime. If a bath relaxes her, that’s another routine that might help her prepare for sleep. Find the things that calm and relax her instead of stimulating activities. I have 4 children and they were all different, but overstimulation was an issue at some point with them all. Think about your anxieties and what helps you relax and utilize those things. Lullabies or calming music are better than upbeat when preparing for sleep. The carrier is great when you need to get things done, but if she’s in it all the time, she’s not learning how to calm herself. Make sure to give her time to learn how to self-sooth. It’s definitely trial and error until you find what will work for her.

Absolutely, though each child is different they all need to learn to self-sooth. My 2nd required a quiet routine in the evening. He would have a warm bath with some drops of lavender oil added. We would then lie down on the couch and read bedtime stories for 20ish minutes then it was bed time. By the time he was put to bed he was relaxed enough to gently fall off to sleep. We travelled alot and no matter where we were he would sleep well after having a bath and story time. Good luck. You will find a routine that works for you, Jordan and Sadie.

You know a play pen is a God send for working outside like you do. It would allow Sadie to stay awake more during the day, use her motor skills more often, free up your hands and body, allow her to work on getting up and down, walking around, crawling etc. You can put the play pen near your work area and keep an eye on her. It worked really well with my son and freed up a lot of time for both his mom and I. If you need one, I can mail it to you. Also, she can be trained to sleep through the night. If she sleeps all day in that carrier and doesn't move around, then she is more likely to be awake at night. Don't mean to be critical or anything, just making a suggestion that might help. Thanks for the great content.
@RangerBuck
@RangerBuck 2 жыл бұрын
Also my son slept almost 10 -12 hours a night and didn't ever regress. They have to get used to a sleep time and a wake time. Just one nap during the day for maybe 1-2 hours. She is being trained to nap in that carrier all day and stay up during the night. In a play pen she would work on getting up and down, standing, walking around by holding the rail, bouncing, etc. That would allow her to work on motor skills during the day and wear her out so she would sleep during the night.

Kaylee, everyone will have a comment about the crying. Take one person’s advice at a time. You know we’re all here to help make it easier for you with our experience. Out of three kids, my middle had colic, and it was like clock work that his crying starting around nap time through dinner. Rocking and holding him was all we could do. Someone else suggested air in her belly. My oldest had that and I used those mylicon gas drops in his milk. But the one thing that saved our butts was the swing. Any consistent motion worked, and put them to sleep right away. I had a crank one, and I could still crank it and they wouldn’t wake up. Now they come with batteries.

Yes, give a baby Big Pharma drugs that cause side-effects, instead of fixing momma's poor diet that is NO DOUBT giving both gas. As if we didn't know what caused indigestion and bloating. Plant foods. I give that MEDICINE as the last resort to my goats when they blow up and no intervention is potentially deadly.

Y'know what almost had me cry? Kailey praising Jordan for what he's done to help. I was with a woman who birthed my now nearing 4 year old boy. I worked 50-60 hours, and when I was home, it was all about helping and making sure she and my boy were good. I stayed up some nights to share the load, I fed him anytime she could pump and make that happen, cooked, cleaned, washed the diapers and sheets, and tried to do everything this woman could have ever asked for. Not once did she ever give me a single bit of praise for this, and what actually happened was that I was taken for granted, berated, and abused mentally/emotionally for not doing more, when I had nothing else to give. It makes me happy to see at least 1 man, Jordan, can receive the praise he deserves for being such a caring father/husband. Of course Kailey deserves her praise as well for doing as much as she can for the little one as well.

That is a mamas dream to have a partner like that. You must've been exhausted too and not performing 100% at work. However, to be taken advantage of is not cool either and expecting more. Your baby mama was very spoilt and unappreciative, but she could've also been going through post natal depression as well maybe. Hope everything has worked out for you and your family.

To improve bonding to that concreet wall as you put 'mud' on it. Pre water the surface before you mud it. This improves the bind between the old and new. As the moisture allows cement to be drawn into the existing hardened concreet.

I just wonder if little Miss Sadie has a routine for herself instead of being carried around while she's asleep, so she can has some 'still time' for herself. I get why you would carry her because you're both out and getting stuck into developing your land. Pushing a push chair would be difficult - maybe putting her in her car seat and carting her around and placing her somewhere safe and stable each time so she could experience still time as well perhaps. Again, trial and error.

Kaylee, an electric swing will be a game changer. And under the last video, some of the moms were talking about putting just a teeny teeny bit of some kind of cereal (gerbers maybe) in some milk before bedtime and just a little tad of it and the babies were sleeping through the night. I mean, one woman said it and a bunch of other moms jumped in. You might want to look back at that. It appeared to be a lifesaver. I had wish I known that when my kid was little.

She needs a play pen where she can learn to pull up, stand etc. more interaction for her motor skills instead of being strapped in a baby carrier which can be dangerous for a baby being in them for many hours and can cause suffocation, just as a car seat can be. The more active she is the more tired she will be to sleep at night.

Just a suggestion and take it with a grain of salt please. I had the same issue with my children having issues sleeping and what I found did help because they were starting new teeth was that when I wanted to put them to bed to get them on more of a normal sleeping pattern to match mine. I would give them anywhere from 1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon of mashed potatoes or mashed rice. It helped sooth the gums and fill their belly so they sleep longer because they weren't as hungry and it allowed for more deep sleep for them. I had 2 children and it worked for both so it might work for you. Just a thought I wanted to help as much as I could. Good luck and the wall looks wonderful.
@BoomerTex
@BoomerTex 2 жыл бұрын
We had 5 kids and had similar issues. Someone recommended to me something called the football carry (also called the cholic carry) and it worked every time. I have used this with an untold number of infants with family and at church over the years and it has always worked to quiet fussing infants (and eventually go to sleep). Lay the infant on their stomach on your arm with their head at your elbow (their ear on your upper arm) pointed away from you and your hand between their legs (holding like a running back holds a football). Then walk around or sway back and forth. You can sometimes put your other hand on their lower back and lightly pat them. At least for me, every time I sat down the magic ended, so this is a standing or walking thing. Eventually they will usually start farting and this calms them down even more. Advise: put a cloth diaper or towel (blanket) on your arm at your elbow as they will slobber an unbelievable amount of spit on you and sometimes suck on your arm. Warning: doing this will cause pain to your arm until you are used to it. The first time you hold them for like 15 minutes this way and then give them to someone else and try to straighten your arm you will have unbelievable pain for a few minutes. You have to work it out like an arm or leg that has fallen asleep. It will take some practice but you can learn how to switch from one arm to the other without dropping or disturbing the baby. I have carried babies quietly like this through weddings, church services, etc. for like an hour at a time - after you have done this for a while your muscles will get trained for it. I hope this will help you.

There is a book, “touchpoints-birth to age 3”. By T.Berry Brazelton. It explains why a baby’s sleep pattern changes. Also, perhaps Sadie needs more “baby life” verses spending many hours in a pouch around adults. At some point, I would get tired of being in a pouch without having my own baby environment. Try a calming bedtime routine with little stimulating I am wondering if if she falls asleep during evening dark stroll on the property is bc less stimulation. if you think about it she is being stimulated throughout the day, being outside. She needs to unwind. Every baby is different and even when being compared to other siblings .i wonder how she would do in a baby swing during the day while you are cooking.. You will find what works for your baby. Y’all are awesome.

I had a daycare for 7 years for kids under 2. I nursed all 4, never a bottle except first,and it was gone at 1 year. They all went to a sippy cup. It will get better I promise. You’ve been given lots of good advice about things to make and do to keep Sadie happy, which keeps mom and dad sane! Sadie does need some ‘toys’ to explore with her hands and a safe place to spend time learning to roll, sit and explore. Some sort of play pen or safe enclosure for her and some simple toys to explore are necessary for all of you. Toys can be common items in your home as long as they are made of safe materials and have no sharp hurtful parts. Is there anyone there who can make her some wooden toys, shakers or enclosed bells that she can handle and make move or make sound out? Rain sticks are mesmerizing, i.e.

You have a very nice temporary home/storage shed. It is nice to see you make changes to it that make it better for your family to live in like adding that indoor shower with a propane pump for hot showers. You could use you know those work out pads to lay on the floor when your on the floor with Sadie teaching her how to crawl or buy a play pen so she can crawl inside of it and she can still be contained to the play pen. You have a nice farm and you have made a lot of progress on the dream you have for your family congratulations may you continue to make progress and improvement towards your goals.

I would spray a little bit of water on the wall, before applying the new cement. It would stop the new cement from drying out too quick, which may help reduce the risk later on of cracking, & also allow the cement to be workable a bit longer & easier.

Here’s another unsolicited advise from a mother of 2. My experience was that the top 2 reasons that they would cry like I heard Sadie’s cry’s was either colic or teething. For the colic I would make a tea with a small piece of “anisé estrellado” ( im sure they have that in Panama) & mix like a 1/4 cup of tea after it cooled with regular lukewarm water in their bottles. Worked like a charm every time! For the teething, my mom told me she gave me & my siblings something called Humphreys teething pellets or #3, (btw they are homeopathic) I was skeptical if this product still existed. To my surprise it did. I religiously used it on both my girls while they were teething, & by God it really works! Love your videos! 🥰

Also, the things they need for sleeping change as they grow. She might be ready for more quiet or darker room, etc. White noise machines or rain sounds are helpful. I also had to change the way I rocked my baby as she got older, like cradling in my arms and doing bigger slow swings instead of quick bounces. She will likely change those needs again a few months later but its worth trying out.

Mama, you and hubby are both high-energy, very expressive, vocal people and baby needs down time from constantly being exposed to all that is going on with vlogging, building, being with friends, etc. A bedtime ritual that lets her know "bedtime" is coming would need to be quiet, possible white noise, but not playing, bouncing around, talking loudly, dancing, trying to illicit giggles from her, etc. Look back at this video and see your activity at bedtime.....not conducive to sleep for a very young baby. Take that nap, Kaylee, when you can. Right now isn't the time to push yourself to be constantly working with baby strapped on you or visiting with baby strapped on you. It will all be there for you once Sadie gets a little older. Trust me, it will not be over and you won't get left out. I sincerely think you both will have life-long goals and dreams that will be before you.

If there is one thing I've learnt about babies is they grow so quickly so enjoy every season even the difficult ones, in saying that I've also learnt that babies thrive on a night time routine (let them do what they like through the day) but they need signals at night time to wind down... Dim lights, calming white noise, a bath (even a dunk in the sink) a swaddle and anything else they can familiarise with sleep cues... She doesn't sound like she has colic she doesn't look in pain (from clips I've seen of her) she just sounds over stimulated from the day 😊 she is going to absolutely love growing up around nature and animals and people and the outside and good vibes, she's so sweet, just keep doing your best, that's all we can do and the seasons will pass... Mum of 5 🌚🤍🖤❤️

I like how Kalie says "not now", and had to! Nice stamping! Beets and Swiss Chard are related, so the leaves of Beets are just wimpy Swiss chard. I remember when my "baby" (now 33) went through this. I think what might be going on with them is they get so fussy as they go because they really are tired, but can't calm themselves. At least with mine, he needed a really quiet and calm environment to eventually go back to sleep. These new humans are so excited about being here, that sometimes they fight going to sleep. You can see the frustration in Sadie's face as she tries to control her body.

We have been enjoying watching your journey in Panama and as new parents. So exciting to be able to enjoy the fruits of your labors in the beets. I wanted to tell you about the coconut "meat" that you have been tossing, :( Its really good and when Sadie gets a little older she will love it! Its soft, so easy for her to enjoy. Use all the coconut, the flesh - for eating or coconut milk, the water, and....if you know, find some time for creativity, you could sand the coconuts into coconut bowls.

I’m a single mum of 4. It’s hard work but you are doing a great job. I’m certainly not telling you how to raise Sadie but are you sure she doesn’t have colic? All mine suffered terribly with it. Also, maybe try not let her nap so much during the day now she’s a little older and she might start to settle better and earlier in the evenings. You’ll get through this tough time. It’s obvious you are great parents and she is a lucky little lady 💕x

This too will pass. I tell my 41 year old daughter (mother of 3) that she is lucky to be alive. From 5 - 7 every night was pure hell. My husband worked for Labatts as a mechanic and worked afternoons (3 - 11) every other week and he was the only one who could make her happy during that time. I had murder on my mind on the weeks he was working. A friend gave me an automatic swing that finally saved her life (and mine). She spent every night in it during cranky time. Bonus though - she started sleeping 5 solid hours at 4 months which also contributed to saving her life. It's the small things......hee hee Love from London, Ontario 🇨🇦

Just want you to know , I understand your pain! My daughter ( 35 yo now) cried like clockwork from 5:30 pm until 2am. I was a single parent. Every night I rushed around trying to get everything done because I was going to literally have my hands full. You name I tried it, from bass to the swing to caring for rides in the car when I got desperate. Living in Massachusetts in the winter made it extremely difficult. Somehow I persevered. I can’t anytime somebody tried to help me they’re crying still got to me. Our primal instincts kick in and Pitocin caused my let down reflex and I would leak all over lol. She wouldn’t eat much at all. I felt like a cow needing to pump lol. Love your channel so much

Wow. What an intense look at her book! That's one intelligent babygirl. I bet she would absorb some baby Einstein stuff. Maybe a hammock or swing would help. Rock a roo thing. I once rigged a car seat up to hang from beams in that situation. With my granddaughter I used a long piece of fabric through a hook in a beam, tied up and she used it to lay in, sit in sleep, play, swing. She's seven now and ask me to make her another.

Wow! You guys (and crew) are doing an amazing job of creating an alternative-living lifestyle. Congratulations on all your hard work! Unsolicited advise warning: I just wanted to add quickly that my daughter used to get recurring earaches which led to a series of recurring antibiotics - a road no one wants to go down. Her doctor advised me to cover her ears against the wind to help stop that painful cycle. I don’t know if that is an issue for Sadie…but since you guys are living in a place with such a powerful windy season, perhaps some hats with some sort of ear protection (flaps?) would help cut down the possible factors of her distress. 💕

So, about your daughter crying and not sleeping… check the comments here, they are great; check also if the milk is strong enough for her now; check the level of caffeine she’s surrounded with; talk to a pediatrician; have her in a crib outside as well to give her some space so she can move around through the day; have her talk to her grandparents… that helps a lot as well. God bless you all.

Start feeding Sadie with the veggie smoothies about an hour before bedtime through a feeder bottle or maybe spoon feed a little bit and she will start sleeping longer. Sometimes all through the night if you feed her a couple times a day. I know they say later but they are sometimes wrong and the problem is she is hungry, and if you feed her before bedtime with one last nursing, she will sleep all night. 2 small meals a day and one before bedtime. She will eat it. If she keeps on with just breast milk she is going to drain you of all your energy, and she won't sleep at night. I have 5 children. God bless you guys.
