The Nomatic Backpack takes me way back. This was my first real backpack that I got several years ago. I absolutely love the organization by far. I didn't really start looking into other bags until I used this for the first time on a flight and I had problems with leg space; it's too rigid. That's what led me to finding your channel sometime last year and boy what a rabbit hole it's been. You're totally right in that everything you do feature wise with a backpack usually comes with a trade off, which makes it so hard to find the perfect backpack (since everyone has different needs and wants). I own several bags now as a result, each with their own fun quirks and different use cases. I've never really been able to find a backpack that is of similar organization to the Nomatic, but being versatile enough for travel/EDC/work and also being lighter in weight. I think I've come to the conclusion now that maybe I'm looking for a unicorn. I remember a podcast you had with Bellroy a while back and their design choice of not using a lot of organizers was interesting. It didn't make complete sense to me at the time but eventually it did. Having more open space creates more opportunities in how you pack the bag because it's not prescriptive in how you have to pack versus how you want to pack. Now I'm just using pouches to organize all my smaller items instead of looking for a bag that has built-in organizers like the Nomatic. The biggest plus being now I can just move those external organizers/pouches to my different plethora of bags that I own. It's definitely been quite a journey figuring out what I thought I wanted and what I really need/wanted as I tested out different bags for different situations over time. That's the end of my Ted Talk :)

Aaron, long time lurker, first time commenting. I bought the Nomatic travel backpack a couple of months ago and it has been spectacular for my EDC. It holds all of my tech gear, umbrella and water bottle without any issues and its super comfortable (I wear a suit everyday). For travel and security is very convenient due to the compartments and the extra space. I do think that the bag isn’t ideal for business trips since it does get really heavy and it becomes a challenge to store a business suit and shoes but it works well for casual-short trips. One complain from the bag is that when you connect it with a carry-on, some items may move since the bag will be resting sideways. Overall, very happy with this bag!

For the record, I saw a lot of people talking about the YKK zippers or lack there of. I bought my travel pack a few months ago and my zippers are indeed YKK. I guess Nomatic transitioned to YKK zippers a little while ago, so if you are buying a new one, the zippers will be YKK. I’ve used this backpack for about 7 business trips already and absolutely love it. Keeps me organized and i really do love the self stand feature. The expansion allows me just to take a backpack for a 2-3 day work trip (I typically never need to wear a suit, but I can pack blazers and slacks in there no problem, and just steam/iron at the hotel). I agree with the criticism that its slightly on the heavy side, but that to me is worth the other features it provides. I got caught in a torrential downpour while in Italy and the PU coated zippers and tarpaline kept everything inside dry. I managed to get this back in February through Costco Next at a whopping discount ($170). At that price point, the bag is Super worth it, and I’m getting a ton of use out of it as an EDC and a travel pack. Couldn’t recommend it more!

I ordered the Nomatic backpack 20L through Costco Next for $140 and am super excited to get it in my hands! Although, I really really also like the look of your Fyro bag and would love to perhaps get my hands on that someday but I think the Nomatic backpack at $140 is quite a good deal for a quality bag and that will have to hold me over for now. I bought my Nomatic Travel Pack earlier this year on a super Costco deal and have flown 4 times with it now and it has been nothing but outstanding. I will say if you are just using it as a backpack it is kind of heavy. The TSA love it too, they always ask about it and are kind of fascinated with it. They are particularly impressed with the locking interior RFID pocket, that's one of my favorite features. Last trip I had it loaded to the max and had it up to about 27 pounds, that was something else.

I've had the travel pack for a couple of years now. Went in eyes wide open of issues due to the nomad nation review. It is my work bag and love it for that as it looks smart and really fits my work environment while still being a backpack. The expansion is also very handy for when I need to take additional stuff (eg documents) to and from work. Main drawback is straps could be more comfortable and lack of anti dangle straps. One annoyance is that on budget airlines the expanded bag will not fit under a seat but the expansion is otherwise great. My Mrs also thinks it is far too heavy when she borrowed it. However, like I said, I love the bag even though it has quite a few faults. Definitely not for everyone.

Thank you very much for your efforts - I really enjoy your videos! I don't know if it is ok to ask, but: Do you have any recommendations for a messenger bag that fits some school/ college stuff like 2 college blocks, a school book, 2 slim folders and a water bottle plus some place to spare for a pencil case and some smaller neccesties with strong focus on a slim or lean design? The ones you featured I saw so far were all fairly huge. I watched your Alpaka Elements Brief Pro review and was intrigued, but it is bigger than my leather messenger bag I carry for work (which fits everything I need). I take evening classes at the moment and am tired of switching out my stuff and hoped about upgrading a bit; since I don't carry a laptop and most of the reviewers here on youtube seem to solely focus on laptops but not on oldfashioned paper, I thought reaching out to my favourite one might be worth a shot. :) Edit: Spelling

Thanks for this video, Aaron! The 20L Travel Pack was my gateway drug into the carry community and the first non-fashion backpack I bought as an adult. I purchased it new for $203 and it feels like I got my money's worth. I have many more bags now but I return to it regularly because of the extreme weather resistance & ease of packing. But I think it's due for an update. If they modernize the pocket layout (and make them accessible while the bag is on the trolley handle ffs), add proper quick access, remove some structure/weight, and improve the harness comfort, I'm probably a buyer for the right price. Oh, and make the water bottle pockets taller. So yeah a whole new bag and I'll probably buy it lol

Love the Travel Pack. As you said, for me the feature set with being able to fully open the laptop compartment, open clamshell, and have tech organizing all in one more than makes up for the finnicky stowaway straps and proprietary materials. Biggest benefit for me is being able to carry a 16" macbook pro (personal), 14" macbook pro (work), and an ipad mini all in that laptop compartment. No other backpack I've seen has been able to do that while also offering significant space for everything else.

I was a backer on Kickstarter when these bags got released in ~2017. For many years, this 20L->30L travel bag was what I used for business/leisure travel. I used all of the organization since I carry alot of tech. One main reason for my purchase was the expansion capability. I loved all of the features except for the shoulder strap stow-away feature which is way too clunky. The only real negative of the bag is that it's heavy (so many features, so many pockets). I felt that the interior materials were fine. The tarpaulin exterior is super water-resistant but can scratch up. They could have used beefier zippers since I was really stuffing the bag to capacity on certain trips. More bags should follow their design of the zipper tracks going around the water bottle holders and having the side access with the 4 zippers.

It does the job absolutely perfectly as my daily commuter bag in 20L and then when i travel quarterly for work i expand it and it’s now an all in one suit case/work bag. Only gripe for me is it says it fits up to a 16” laptop but my 16” gaming laptop is a hair too big to fit in the dedicated laptop sleeve. For what it’s worth, the nomatic website specifies that both these bags use YKK zips, not sure if that’s just in some areas but not all or if they’ve updated since you got the bags you currently have, but worth mentioning. I’ve had a lot of nomatic products over the years - I’ve used the backpack here before and I currently use the carry on pro luggage and the navigator 15L. And this is probably an unpopular opinion but I like the navigator way more than these two. Best laptop protection in an EDC I’ve owned, better quick access and while I appreciate the pockets,l these have, when you don’t have 14 separate things to put in each one it eventually begins to feel like wasted space. I remember finding myself packing out my nomatic backpack with tech gear that I’d use maybe once a year because I just wanted something to fill the pocket (like why did I ever need a backup Bluetooth keyboard?!) The only thing the navigator doesn’t have that I wish did is the self stand. Anyways - these are great packs, I find the travel pack probably more useful/versatile, but to me they’re very niche to the “coffee shop tech bro” group.

I have traveled the world with the large Travel Pack, and have also owned the Backpack. I can't stand the way it looks when I have a water bottle in the pocket -- that weird flap that juts out just de-sleeks the lines. But at least it has water bottle pockets, which are an absolute must-have for me. The overall style is nice, utilitarian. All that said, this is may be the most functional travel pack I've used to date -- and I've used a LOT of different packs for travel. Right now I'm trying my hand on my last few international trips with the Aer City Pack Pro, and it is so far about on par with the Travel Pack. That said, if I had to give one an edge, it's the Travel Pack, with its expansion. The expansion on the Travel Pack is also great for how it holds structure -- that is, it doesn't sag on me (at the expansion gusset) when it's expanded. Anyway, I like the Travel Pack so much that I also have the 14L version as one of my EDC backpacks, and it's also fantastic.

I alternated between that and my Mission Workshop R8 Arkiv® but I’ve relegated them both into storage since late 2022. from time to time, I do check on my Travel Pack to ensure that it isn’t spoiled due to prolonged storage

@jrelitedk1814 Hey. How has your travel pack been holding up to scratches? I just got mine and I love the look. But a lot of reviews say it scratches easily because of the tarpaulin material and starts to look worn out.

Been using the travel version since 2018, love it, but.... So let's collaborate bro, you def get it with bags. My background can contribute perhaps (and the shoulder straps stowage is clunky for sure, but allows you to capture the office audience (needs to be adult item).

As the call to action says, it makes sure you get the best price (we’ll switch out the links if we find somewhere that sells the bag with a better deal) and sometimes we have discount codes (we used to for Nomatic but they stopped but we might get new ones soon and we add them once we do) and those links always help to support our channel.

Isn't there going to be a better bag coming in early 2024? Has decent expandability though not quite as much as the travel one, new modular water bottle holders, premium materials throughout, is way lighter and a new hatch access system. Can self stand too! Some dude from KZbin is using his and his teams extensive experience and reviews of bags to build it.

Yeah, exactly why I ordered one on Kickstarter! The Nomatic or now Gomatic in the UK was one bag I was super interested in getting, but just didn't push me over the line. The Fyro T22 seems to have most of the pros, less of the cons and other extra great features. And just simply a more "considered" bag. BTW. Please don't release a V2 for at least 3 years! I hate it when that happens (i.e. in a year) as I feel bad for my old stuff when there is such an early refresh. Feel like I paid too much for a prototype then.

@@HumanBlur thanks so much! And don't worry - I am going to respect our backers. No V2's will be coming down the line for a while.
