I find the "strap storage" feature to be stellar once I'm on a plane or long-distance train. Keeps the straps from getting snagged on seat rails or by the luggage of others in the overhead compartment. If I need to grab my pack to get something out/down, it slips out and back in without getting caught on anything. Easy peasy.
@Nomads.Nation3 жыл бұрын
I love the idea, just not the implementation.

Right ... I think plane travel is the main use and reason for hiding the straps ... not for transforming it into a briefcase.

14:41 EZ, it's so that in a pinch, you don't need to constantly remember which side your water pouch is on. It's extremely convenient if you have physical restraints on one side of the pack (lets say youre in line touching shoulders with people cause its super busy, or maybe your pack is stuffed sideways in a trunk with a bunch of other bags and only one side is up and accessible and you want throw your water bottle in really quick..welp you dont have to move all the other bags out of the way so you can get yours out just to flip it and insert a water bottle). It's just nice that when youre distracted by other common life things, you dont have to worry about remembering what side the pouch is on. You have two!! Use whatever is more accessible and quicker. This is why all the packs I own have two water pouches. Good thing you're not a bag designer cause I would have HATED only having it on one side lol.
@Nomads.Nation3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment dude! After reviewing dozens more bags since this review I gotta say... I still prefer having 1 water bottle holder 😂. But, to each their own! That's the beauty of having so many options out there :)
@jmchez2 жыл бұрын
If you use this backpack because of its "office" looks and that's where you are going, you may want to carry an umbrella with you. There's no better place for it than in the second water bottle holder. On a sunny day I sometimes carry a coffee zujirosi hot beverage container (those things are great) for the morning conmute and a water bottle on the other pocket for midday seeping (there are offices where you don't want to use the water fountain).

Good review. I'd add one minor nitpick to this bag. In order to take advantage of the retractable keychain, you really need to wear it with the zipper closed/connecting at the bottom of the bag, allowing you to partially unzip to easily reach the keychain. However, in order to take advantage of quick access to the top of the bag, you need to wear it with the zippers closed/connected at the top. So you essentially have to choose which feature is most valuable/important to you. I wish they had designed it with maybe a separate zipper opening at the bottom just to access the retractable key chain. As it is, two really great features, but you can't really use both. And I agree, the zippers in general do fight you a bit.
@Nomads.Nation4 жыл бұрын
Great nitpick - I totally agree!
@fredricktomasson3 жыл бұрын
As people have mentioned before. The strap hiding is for taking your backpack on a flight so it's easier to place in the overhead compartment without the strap dangling and getting stuck. The back can also be placed on the handle of a suitcase so its easy to carry both and no need to have it on your back. That pocket in the back can then store your passport and other stuff for easy acess. Also the top part is formed that way because you can just open the top part and have a great overview of the backpack to take out stuff like the computer or cloths fast and easy. Great review and many good points! Own a nomatic backpack myself and those features are great and feel like at least the top thing should be included.
@Nomads.Nation3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Fredrick, I agree that I love the top part for the quick access. But the passport pocket is really tough to get to for me

Aaron, thank you so much for this incredible review. Your passion, honesty and attention to detail really comes through in this longer-form in-depth look into the Nomatic backpack, and I'm thrilled that I came across this. I was teetering right on the fence of making the $474.00 CAD plunge (delivered) after seeing this pack advertised by Chris Williamson, and I'm super thankful for your insight into the various pros and cons this offers. Not being a digital nomad myself, it make me think it might not be the best investment after all, and there's cheaper options out there that will serve me better. Great, thorough review for an expensive backpack that deserves the detail to help people justify the cost. This said, I’m not as critical on the few items that bothered you. The keychain can be relocated as that loop is also, located at the bottom of other pockets. If you want a reliable, waterproof zipper, it will necessarily be slightly tighter to, zip/unzip than a regular zipper (at least it’s not as tight as a Yeti-style cooler zipper, oh my!). I agree the strap hiding system could be improved with the same waterproof-style zippers elssewheremon the bag. The snaps are a bit clunky and invariably the loose straps want to find their way out of the pockets. Zippers would still look clean when unzipped when the straps are being used, but when hidden, bothmaides will be very clean. I also agree the “hidden” zipped pocket,misn’t very hidden and it’s difficult to reach (maybe part of their thinking, but there are better hiding places in my view). Finally, in addition to its overall sleek appearance, I appreciate that when standing up, it stays up. A couple previous packs ALWAYS fell, over on to the front, so I’d have to lean it back. Just irritating! PS I only recently bought mine and it seems they’ve designed the expansion zipper to allow the entire bag to expand, allowing it to go to 30L from 20L. Great job Nomatic for a simple change that makes a huge difference without changing its appearance or compromising its other functions!
@Nomads.Nation21 күн бұрын
thanks for your thoughts! The 20->30L version is the Nomatic Travel Pack, not the Nomatic Backpack

Great review- comprehensive, nice video effects and transitions, clear and good articulation, and really polished. Appreciate the honesty and diligence on the review, looks like a great product overall! Quick question - the shoulder straps look flimsy when picking up the bag...I wonder if holding it that way daily (say, work commutes on the subway), with full weight, makes it liable to break/tear easily. Thoughts? Oh and thoughts on using it in a colder climate (i.e subzero temperatures, snowy and windy)!? Thanks again for the great video!
@Nomads.Nation4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the love Victor! 1 - The shoulder straps (and overall build of the pack) is strong and I am confident it will stand the test of time. If by some crazy reason I am wrong and the shoulder straps would tear, I believe you would be covered by Nomatic's Lifetime Warranty 2 - Colder climate should be fine. The tarpaulin materials are weather-resistant and should repel light to medium amounts of moisture/rain/snow. Just don't leave it outside in a blizzard!

Have the TravelPack. Love it but the zippers are not the smoothest. If the zippers are really keeping the rain out, they are worth it. The rain cover of other bags is costing space. I like the bottle holder and I sometimes use both. Just the sizes could be bigger. My riut bag X35 can hold 1.5l bottles in the bottle pocket. 3l in the summer! The key leash... you have the backpack on one shoulder and open the zipper from the bottom and reach in. After using the key you let go and it snaps back in. Just not mine - too many keys. For photo equipment I recommend ThinkTankPhoto bags. Made by photographers for photographers.

I just received mine today. Love parts and hate parts. The love parts the way it looks and the way it feels. Hate the zippers and the key thing. Just to make a comparison. I bought a $40 High Sierra backpack . I think I love the High Sierra more. It has tech too. They actually have a cord and a port for charging your phone. It is strange how a $40 bag can be just as good as an expensive bag (plus the cheap bag can afford to put in a cool cord and port.) I also agree about the converting it to a briefcase. ( Bad idea). Plus the cheap bag can hold just as much. Another thing, I have the iPad Pro 12.9 with the floating keyboard. My iPad won't fit in their tablet with the floating keyboard ( not good). The cheaper backpack doesn't have this problem. My iPad fits fine. I still like the backpack ( just disappointed).

I really like the aesthetics! It would have looked even better though if it had inside bottle/umbrella pocket/s with zippers on the outside! Bottles outside gets very hot quickly in the tropical sun, and if you keep umbrellas or small tripod in outside holders it´s easy for pickpockets to grab and run! For a 2-3 days trip as a travelpack it would have been nice if all the inside laptop pockets could be removed for more packing space for some clothes and camera. I do like the expandable bottom that keeps the sleek shape at the top, so it won´t look too bulky! The Travel Packpack is a better choice for traveling, but is not as sleek and looks bulky when expanded.

Awesome Rwview! Thank you for that! It is really hard to choose between PD Every Day 20L and Nomatic Travel, so... I have a mirrorless camera and 2 lenses and I really like the quality of Peak Design but... I also have a laptop, documents, chargers and so on... Peak Design doesn't offer so many pockets and organization inside. I have a Peak Design Sling 3L just to carry a camera with one lens or with 2 lenses (35mm and 85mm) just to take it with me when I need it. But Nomatic offers an expandable option that means I can take it as a travel backpack plus some luggage. I would love to see Peak Design offer something similar, but they don't. Peak Design's 30L Travel is too big for me as I'm 1.6 meters tall. But Nomatic offers 2 in 1 and it is great! Small Update: I talk about Nomatic Travel Pack v2

This was a good review and I appreciate all the work put into it! As somebody shopping around for a bag, I found this overall useful of a review and had a lot of your personality! So good stuff as a whole. A constructive critique is the chapter title up in the top right corner is unnecessarily big and distracting, especially when you have other text higlighted on screen. I'd suggest maybe having the chapter title START big, but shrink somewhere neatly in the corner. Viewers have short attention spans, but trust that once you establish that you're tucking the titles into the corner of the video, that we're smart enough to remember to look there. Another critique, is... I understand your channel's name is "Nomads Nation" but I gotta admit and respectfully say that "digital nomad" is said SOOOOOOO MANY times in this video, that I couldn't help but notice it every-single-time. It's not a crazy big deal, and I presume it's for branding, but I feel like it could be turned down a bit. I know it sounds a little picky, but I was only a third through the video when I noticed it, and I couldn't NOT notice it each time it was said, and it honestly became distracting to an overall very thorough review. Anyways, overall, as I said, this was a good review and I appreciate all the efforts put into it like all the different locations and examples out in the real world, and clear camera shots of the exterior and interior. Nice stuff, I expect your channel will continue to grow!

And the hidden pocket in the rear can hold your passport. Just saying Like!!
