I forget y'all are young now and grew up with a new gen of country radio. Don't judge the genre from radio! They never play the best stuff on there, seriously. Kieth Urban, Rascal Flatts, Trisha Yearwood, Sarah Evans, Leah Turner, Maren Morris, Lauren Alaina, Cam, Ingrid Andress Just to name a few! Country has so many styles from pop to rock, it's a genre that contains a lot of unique instrumental choices and a lot of unique vocals. Which is probably why it will always hold a special place in my heart. Very little can beat acoustic strings and a raw, not over-produced vocal. And while radio country might be leaning into the digital music trend, a lot of smaller and lesser-known artists are really keeping the style alive.

When people say they don't like "Poppy Country" they actually mean a very certain type. The Bakersfield Sound (Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakum) is the infusion of popular music techniques into Country. The heaviest influence of Alabama was the Eagles. Just thought her statement and the Dwight Yoakum recommendation was a bit ironic (although I bet she would love him)

Many song writers can cover a song and do it justice, but there are some covers that IMO become the standard of the song. Some artists will take that song to the next level and become the definitive version of it. This has happened many times, and since you mentioned J Cash, that is what happened with his cover of Hurt which was originally written by Trent Rez from N.I.N. Same goes for this as well as All Along The Watchtowers by Bob Dylan, which was covered by Jimmi Hendrix and it became his song.
