The third time it should have been obvious that the only way to fool Darren was to fool yourself, to try to make it so that you yourself didn't know where it where. Accually though that was what he was doing when he jumbled the cups together. I would probably tried something similar but with my eyes closed and before I opened them I would have spun around or something so I wouldn't be sure of the orientation of the cups anymore.

Here's how it's done chaps. Most of you fell for the mind manipulation thing which is just for effect and has nothing to do with the working of the trick. The trick is that derren has a remote controlled buzzer in his pocket. A crew member in the crowd sees what cup the bracelet is number and buzzes derren the same number of times. So, before derren turns around he already knows which cup it is. The numbering of the cups facilitates this trick.

People making wild guesses, such as, "He's looking at the reflection in the shop window" should do some research on 'magic'. Many things that appear to be impossible can be learned by anyone who is willing to put the time in to learn and practice. For example, (unrelated to this trick)... with just a few hours of concentration, a person can learn how to pick up any number of cards from a deck just by using their sense of touch.... You could pick up 13 cards or 25 just by learning how it feels to your fingertips.... Most people don't know that it is a possibility... and because of that, this one skill is the basis for many card tricks... The same goes for 'guessing games'. Derren is totally dedicated to researching and learning these skills and as a result performs amazing tricks. He isn't just looking at a reflection in the window! (Although, as far as he's concerned, he might as well be!)

He isn’t a master of bluffing, unfortunately he made it pretty easy on round 2 and 3. On round 2, Darren starting talking about cup 1. At that point Darren didn’t have to commit to it being there, based on the guy’s response, he could have said ‘but it’s not that one’ and started talking about a different number. But immediately the guy went into ‘concede’ mode and the visual clues easily gave it away. In round 3, you could hear and see that he put the cup in the middle and surrounded it with the rest.

So the way he does this is with body language right? He just says a number, looks at the guys reaction, and knows if it is in it or not. With the 4 cups he just started with talking about 1, they guy just started smiling so he knew it was 1. But if he didn't react he would have talked himself out of it like, "so you picked 1 last time so now you will pick any other number, like 2" Check reaction again. In the last one he saw him react different to saying the number 4 so he knew it was 4

Suggestion doesn't have a linear relationship with the input. Especially when you're trying to trick someone, you almost always never want to choose numbers that someone gives you. It's really strange stuff; Derren is clearly a master when it comes to the complex nature of it. I suggest re-watching the video multiple times, as well as his other manipulation videos, you might be able to figure out a few of his techniques. The easiest technique to figure out is the verbal number counting trick, we just can't help but give sub-conscious micro-expressions and timing delays.
