As somebody who has played neither, this looks like a Magic & Dragons variation on the Monster Hunter series. Multi-/single-player boss fights + wandering around & gearing up.

The dragon is "blighted", (diseased) Part of the story, you'll come across normal dragons at some point If you like fighting dragons, grab DA Inquisition, LOTS of dragons

Dragon Age Origins is the only good Dragon Age game, there are 3 Dragon Age games in the ip, You got the epic CRPG that is DAO, felt like DAO was a love letter to CRPGs made by Bioware, EA bought up Bioware and after that all the talent left, Bioware became Bioware in name only, a EA husk so to speak, the dumbed down action button masher that is DA2, The whanna be mmo DAI. Dragon Age Vailguard is the biggest finger towards any of the Dragon Age fans. I get the feeling that DAV is going to be a massive flop. Because the devs making DAV said: Your chouses in before this game means jack squat. It is VERBOTEN to create a female character. Hud is so bloted and filled with lights, text boxes, the hud needs an adblocker. DAO had lists, skills, crafting, weapons had skills, the classes had talents, rouge, warriour, mage had spells and a ton of spells, looking at DAV it looks like they dumbed it down even more from DAI, the game has a moba skill set, 3 spells and 1 ulti, DAO I can drag out the quickbar list all bottom of my screen, In DAV forget having companions that are usefull at all, they are immortal this time around but do zero damage, the tactical mode is gone. DAO you can pause the game at any time, take command of the companions at any time. Go from 3rd person to isometeric at anytime to get a tactical view. GONE! All gone.

No, you don't need to play any of the other Dragon Age games to understand Dragon Age: The Veilguard. It's designed as a standalone story with new characters and a fresh start. However, if you're familiar with the previous games, you'll likely appreciate some of the references and deeper lore connections. 🫡
